I got your name and e-mail from my English teacher, Ms. Sands. These days I’m thinking about what to write. At first, I wanted to tell you what it's like to go to school here in Minnesota, but later I thought you could look up Minnesota on the Internet and read about it yourself. Then I had the idea to tell you about my family, but I realized (意识到) that the story of my little brother losing a tooth or the time we got a new cat might be kind of boring. After that, I thought about asking you questions about what it’s like to live in Belgium, but I’m afraid you might think my questions are silly (愚蠢的).

I think I can tell you a little about myself. In fact, you probably already learned one thing about me. I sometimes have a hard time making up my mind! I hope you can write me back anyway.

I knew my name and address, knew how to write them, knew how to spell them, but standing at the blackboard with the eyes of the many girls and boys looking at me made me nervous. I was unable to write a single letter.

“Write your name,” the teacher said to me. I lifted the white chalk to the blackboard and, as I was about to write my name, my mind went empty. I could not remember my name, not even the first letter. “Just forget about us and write your name and address,” said the teacher. I wanted to write but my hand refused to move. The children began to whisper (低语). “Don’t you know your name?” asked the teacher. I looked at her and could not answer. The teacher stood up and walked to my side, smiling at me to give me confidence (自信). She put her hand softly on my shoulder and asked, “What’s your name?”

“Richard Wright,” I whispered. I spelled my name very quickly.

“Now, can you write?”

“Yes, madam.”

Again, I turned to the blackboard. I wrote my name and address down quickly and correctly.“Good boy. You may go to your seat,” said the teacher.

Today I can still remember my teacher’s words and encouragement. They meant a lot to me.

I’m a helpless mother. My son Tom is 15 years old. I find that the older he grows, the less we talk. I feel very sad and I really need help.

My first problem is about his hobbies. He spends almost all his spare time on computer games. When he gets home, he always turns on the computer and closes the door. I’m getting worried about him, especially when his English teacher tells me he always gets low marks in the English exams.

Second, he likes new technology, but I don’t have enough money and I can’t afford all the things he wants.

Recently, I’ve found that he is always alone. I’ve never seen him talking to his friends on the phone or going out with anyone on weekends. That is the last problem I have.

What should I do to help him? Please give me some advice.

So she was considering in her own mind (as well as she could, for the hot day made her feel very sleepy and stupid), whether the pleasure（乐趣）of making a daisy—chain (花环) would be worth the trouble of getting up and picking the daisies, when suddenly a white rabbit with pink eyes ran close by her.

There was nothing so very remarkable in that; nor did Alice think it so very much out of the way to hear the rabbit say to itself, “Oh dear! Oh dear! I shall be late!” (when she thought it over afterwards, it occurred to her that she ought to have wondered at this, but at the time it all seemed quite natural); but when the rabbit actually took a watch out of its waistcoat—pocket, and looked at it, and then hurried on, Alice started to her feet, for it flashed across her mind that she had never before seen a rabbit with either a waistcoat—pocket, or a watch to take out of it. Burning with curiosity, she ran across the field after it, and fortunately was just in time to see it pop down a large rabbit—hole under the hedge.

In another moment down went Alice after it, never once considering how in the world she was to get out again.

The rabbit—hole went straight on like a tunnel for some way, and then dipped suddenly down, so suddenly that Alice had not a moment to think about stopping herself before she found herself falling down a very deep well.
