Moveable Feast
Ernest Hemingway
Recently I read Moveable Feast by Hemingway. He looked back at his young but poor writing lives in Paris which were really an unforgettable memory. Many people say that looking back is meaningless because it can neither change the past nor bring it back to life, but I disagree as I enjoy the sense of nostalgia (怀旧感), which can remind me of how life used to be when I was younger.
As we know, there are moments when the past springs into the present. It’s often a smell or touch that will remind me of a particular place or person. A soft little cat, the sweet smell of a flower, baking bread, old books…they all create a fresh picture. We moved so many times when 1 was younger and each time the first thing my parents would do is to decorate (装饰) our bedrooms. The windows would be kept open to let the smell of the paint out but it would always remain for days which I even remember today.
Those memories are flying. But when I visit the seaside village where we used to spend many of our family holidays, I can replay all old days in my head. I can clearly remember the weather, the salty smell of the sea, our dogs playing in the water, an ice cream and that feeling of excitement after a day in the fresh air.
Although having many photos of those days, I seldom look at them as I prefer to allow my memory to create the pictures. Today we can so easily record the present with phones and cameras, upload the images and share the moment with our friends online. But, for me, that somehow takes away the feeling and creation.

I’m Xiaofei—on Douyin. Welcome to cook with me. Today I want to show how to make my favorite salad.
My dear mom passed down this recipe(食谱). It is called Ambrosia Salad, and it’s also my family’s favorite.
First, choose your favorite fruit. Use fruit in season. Make sure it is fresh. Besides, use fruit of different colors and try to make your fruit salad look as good as it tastes. For example, mixing apples, green pears, purple grapes and oranges together will make the salad look very colorful. I think the strawberries are a great addition! I especially like this in spring!
Then, put some salad dressing and mix the fruit and salad dressing together. If you want to give a special taste to your salad, you can also put in a quarter cup of peanut which is cut into pieces.
Make the fruit salad just before you are going to eat it. Some of the fruit will quickly turn brown when you leave it in the air for some time.
Don’t wait anymore, and try to do it yourself. If you like this recipe, please give me 5 stars.

When we got to the farm, it was the end of a school year and summer started. On the farm, we could do what we liked. We could play with the animals all day. When we were hungry, we went back to Bibiji, our grandmother. She cooked over a wood fire in the kitchen. We blew on the wood to make the firerage, hoping it would help the food cook faster. Sometimes we played hide-and-seek in the storeroom, or ran through the field like horses.
But the summer I turned nine was different. One morning I heard clickety-clack, clickety-clack, ping. I searched carefully for the sound: Papaji in his study, typing a letter. I tried to see it better, but fell through the door. I stood up, looked at the floor, red in the face, hoping his words would be short. Papaji's eyes glinted(闪光)and didn't say anything. Then the rest of the summer I heard the sounds of typewriter(打字机), dreaming of touching the beautiful yellow keys.
After going home, I spent the year thinking of ways to let me use the typewriter when I got
back to his house. But the next summer, I still stood beside him as he typed, hoping he would let me try it.
