【推荐1】Well today it happened ... A day we never want to happen but continually prepare for throughout the school year.
We had a tornado (龙卷风) touch down near the school. I wasn't even in the classroom when it happened. I had taken a student with me to the workroom to help get things for a project. When the sirens (警报器) went off, I immediately held my student's hand and ran as fast as I could back to the classroom.
Never did I imagine need to put our tornado drills (训练) to use. I never imagined actually needing to line my students up on the wall, have them crouch down with their knees and heads touching the ground, hands on the backs of their heads. Their hearts beating so fast ( and mine, if we are honest ) they couldn't catch their breath ,or the fear filled eyes looking up at me as they asked if their mommies, daddies, grandparents and friends were going to be OK.
Never did I imagine the terrible silence that would come over the whole school, with hundreds of students lined up against the walls of one building.
Never did I imagine the way would feel. Along with other teachers, we tried our best to comfort our students, make sure of their safety and promise them everything would be alright, when we truly didn’t know what the result would be. Today has taken a toll (造成损害) on me, as I am sure it has on the hundreds and thousands of teachers in the local areas. But at the same time, I am really proud and surprised at how my students handled themselves today. In such a scary and dangerous situation, my students handled themselves with the attitudes of children much older than them.
Never in my life have I seen my students follow directions so quickly. Even though some tears were shed, some hearts were beating fast, my students were brave. They had such an unshaking trust in my assistant and myself that they were able to be 100% calm the whole time. I am truly grateful.
Tomorrow will bring a new set of challenges and will be a day used to encourage and prepare the students for the next time this might happen .Right now, look back on the day, being thankful for everyone's safety, courage and bravery.

【推荐2】Could the students from less developed areas in central and western China get the same educational chances as those in big cities in the east? Could the children in poor rural (农村) areas develop as well as those in rich cities? Maybe the answers were “No” in the past. But now, China is trying to change the situation.
In order to help rural students grow taller and stronger, China’s Nutrition (营养) Improvement Program started in 2011. According to the program, a lot more money was spent improving students’ meals. More than 36 million students from 134,000 primary and junior high schools in poor rural areas have benefited from the program. They are provided with healthy food like eggs and milk from Monday to Friday at school. And the result of a survey shows that the students in those areas are much taller and stronger than before.
It is true that there were differences between less developed areas and developed areas in education before. Recently, The Guideline for Popularizing High School Education (2017-2020) has come out. According to the guideline, above 90% students from all over the country will go to high schools by 2020. What’s more, the schools in central and western areas will get more support to improve their education.
Students from rural and poor areas also get more chances to receive higher education. A special college program makes it possible for more students from those areas to go to key (重点的) colleges and universities. The number will be increased by 10% in 2017.
With the guideline and the programs, we can expect a fairer and more balanced (均衡的) education in the future.

Tiangong-1 is China’s first space module(舱). It was sent into space in 2011. It will be developed into a large space station around 2020. A space station is a lab for scientific studies.Shenzhou X performed its first docking(对接)with Tangong-1 on June 13. It docked twice during the 15 days.
The US, Russia, Japan, Canada and Europe are working together on the International Space Station (ISS).China wanted to join the ISS but was refused by the US. China decided to build its own space station.
Shenzhou X flew around the Tianggong-1 lab for the first time. This was to make sure that spacecraft could dock from more than just one direction. The astronauts carried out repair work and did experiments on the Tiangong-1.
Teaching from space
Wang Yaping, China’s second woman astronaut, taught high school and primary school students about space science. Wang talked about how things move in a micro-gravity(微重量)environment. This helped the students better understand some physics ideas, like Newton’s Law. The lessons aimed to encourage more students to learn about the universe and science.
Life up in space
The three astronauts followed a work and rest schedule(作息时间)that is similar on the Earth. They had Chinese dishes, such as Kung Pao Chicken and fried rice. The food was kept in special bags. At the time of the Dragon Boat Festival, they had Zongzi.
