Disney has made many cartoon movies. The princesses in the movies are often girls' favorite characters. From Snow White to Moana, every princess leaves a deep impression on people. However, have you noticed that Disney princesses are changing?
In the early Disney cartoon movies, princesses like Snow White, Cinderella and Aurora from Sleeping Beauty are usually good-looking and kind-hearted. But they have to depend on others to get out of trouble and find happiness. They end up living happily with their princes.
Now, people still love those princesses, but more and more girls know they have to fight for their own happiness. Disney has noticed the change. So the princesses in its newer movies don't just have good looks.
Merida from Brave is a good example. She was born as a princess and she likes going on adventures. She spends her days practicing archery(射箭术),riding her horse and experiencing the world around her. She loves her family, but she wants to take control of her own life.
Some time ago, Disney even put up their"10 new rules for being a modern princess". The rules include: Care for others; Live healthily; Don't judge(判断)a book by its cover; Be honest; Be a friend you can trust; Believe in yourself; Right wrongs; Try your best; Be loyal(忠诚)and Never give up.
None of the rules are about the looks of a princess. Anyway, one's inner beauty is more important. Don't you think so?

"Tina, there's a school talent show in three weeks," I shouted to my best friend.
Tina ran over to the board and read the poster. “Maura, what's our act going to be?" Tina asked me.
“Our act?" I asked.
Tina pointed to the poster and said, “It says students can join alone, with a partner or in small groups."
“You want to do an act together?"
"It’ll be fun," Tina said.
I didn’t speak for a second before continuing. "I've got an idea and …"
Tina interrupted me. "Yeah, me too. Let's talk at lunch."
During math, I tried to think of how I'd tell Tina that I wanted to do my own act.
At lunch, Tina started talking as soon as we sat down. "I have it all planned out. We can sing along to a song and do a dance routine (一套动作)."
“Yeah, that's good," I said. "But I had another idea. " I told her about my juggling act.
Tina considered it. "Nah, I'd probably drop the balls," she said. "We don't want to lose face, right?"
When my grandma picked me up after school, I explained about the talent show to her. "So, Tina is not respectful of your ideas, but it sounds as if you aren't either. "
“What?" I shouted. "I told Tina her idea was good. ”
“No," said my grandma, “I said that you weren't respectful of your own ideas. I understand that you're friends, but you're still responsible for your own actions. ”
I thought about this. "So what should I do?" I asked.
“I advise you to tell the truth," she said. "It wouldn't hurt to let Tina know what you want."
When we got home, I took deep breaths, called Tina, and told her that I was going to do my juggling act. I spent all night worrying she would be mad at me.
But the next day, the biggest surprise came when we played a game that I chose, not Tina.
I guess standing up for myself did work.

“Not bad, Stone, not bad,” he said to himself and smiled. Maybe he wasn’t ready for Hollywood, but with his dark broad eyes and his thick brown hair, he had the looks that turned girls’ heads. He moved in closer to the mirror and smiled, checking his teeth.
“Perfect,” he thought, “Good enough for a toothpaste ad.”
As his eyes moved down to his strong arms and chest he smiled again. The hours he spent on the playground and doing sit-ups have paid off!
But suddenly, the smile froze (僵住) on his lips. His eyes moved from the upper part of his body down to his legs. His legs were short. Not just short, but far too short for his body. He had the upper body of a six feet (英尺) boy, but because of his legs, he was much less than six feet. Sitting, he was as tall as almost anyone in his class. Standing, he had to look up at most of the boys and even many of the girls.
Why didn’t his legs grow with the rest of his body? At five feet six inches (英寸), he was one of the shortest boys in his class. He was the shortest in his own family, and he was even shorter than his little sister — by three inches! Where did his legs come from?
He certainly didn’t get them from his parents. They were both quite tall. Looking through old photos in the family album, he found the answer. It was his grandfather on his mother’s side. His short legs were a gift from Grandpa Tuttle. Thanks a lot, Grandpa!

I turned round to find an old lady looking up at me with a smile. She said, “Hi, handsome! I’m Rose. I’m 87 years old. Can I give you a hug?” I laughed, “Of course! Why are you in college at such a ‘young’ age?” I asked. She jokingly replied, “I’m here to meet a rich husband, get married, have children and then travel around.” “Are you serious?” I asked. I wondered why she challenged herself such a thing at this age. “I always dreamed of having a college education, and now I’m getting one.” she told me.
We became friends. Every day, we would leave class together and talk for hours. Listening to this human “time machine” was so interesting, when she shared her years of wisdom (智慧) and experience with me.
At the end of the term, we invited Rose to speak at a meeting. I’ll never forget what she told us. “We do not stop playing because we are old; we grow old because we stop playing. There are only a few secrets to staying young. You have to laugh and find humor every day. You’ve got to have a dream. When you lose your dreams, you die.” she said.
“There is a huge difference between growing older and growing up. Anybody can grow older. That doesn’t need any talent or ability,” she added. “But growing up requires finding the chance in change. Have no regrets. People usually don’t have regrets for what they did, but for things they did not do.”

BRAZIL
In general, Brazilian culture is informal (随意的). Most Brazilians are very friendly, so it’s important to greet the people you meet. Normally women kiss on the cheek, but men usually just shake hands. Brazilians usually stand very close to each other while speaking. Even if this is unusual in your culture, try not to move away if it happens. If you go to a business meeting, you are not expected to take a gift.
On the other hand, if you are invited to someone’s house, you should take a gift—like flowers or chocolate. However, avoid anything purple or black, as these colors have to do with death.
If you are invited to dinner, arrive at least 30 minutes late, but always dress well, because a person’s appearance can be very important to Brazilians.
SAUDI ARABIA
Saudi Arabia is a very traditional country. It is important to greet the oldest or the most senior person first. People shake hands in business situations, but men and women do not touch in public.
In a business meeting, do not start with business matters at once. Instead, lead in the conversation by asking about people’s family or health. Arrive on time for business meetings, but don’t be surprised if others are late. Being on time is less important in Saudi Arabia than it is in most western countries. Business dress is formal.
Gifts are not expected at business meetings. If you are invited to a Saudi home, acceptable gifts are chocolate or coffee. Be careful not to admire the things the host owns, because he or she will feel necessary to give an item to you as a gift.

Another belief that people had was that birds of a kind were carbon copies: that they looked exactly like each other, all acted in the same way, and all sang the same song.
But since we began to study birds more closely, we have found these things are not true. We find that birds learn things by being taught, as we do. Also, they find out how to do things themselves, and they are not all alike, as so many machines.
More than this, we see that they don’t look or act exactly like each other. For when we know one robin well, we can tell him from any other robin. And no two of a kind sing exactly the same song.
A bird is a genius in many ways. One is by the way it acts when it can’t do as it is used to doing. I saw a robin once who wished to build a nest but couldn’t find mud(泥)to put into it. It was as dry as a desert, and there were no streams near. Now a robin’s nest must have mud, and the bird seemed having no idea for a while but at last thought of a way to get it. She went to a bathing dish that the people of the house kept filling with water for the birds, jumped into it, and got her legs very wet. Then she flew to the road, and walked around like a soldier. In a short time, her legs had a good coating of mud, which she careful picked off with her mouth, and took it to the nest she was building. She repeated this action many times until she had as much mud as she needed.
A bird often shows sense by the way she repairs a nest that has been thrown out of place. Sometimes she will add a new straw(稻草). One bird, whose nest broke a little, put so many straws above that they made a little tent over it.
