“I don’t mind answering these questions,” Alice said. “I lost my legs in a car accident. But I am going to get new legs soon.”

“How does a person get new legs?” Amy asked. “I am being fitted for prosthetic (假体的) legs,” Alice told them. “You will see.”

A few days later Alice walked into class! Everyone was surprised. “Would you like to see my new legs?” Alice asked. Everyone would like to see. “They are made out of plastic and are very light,” she said. “They are very strong, too.”

“It is so amazing!” Amy said.

“How does the doctor make sure it fits?” someone asked Alice.

“Because every person is special, every prosthetic leg is made for only one person. These legs were made especially for me. Even if someone is of the same height and weight as me, my prosthetic legs wouldn’t fit them.” The bell rang. It was time to have a rest! “Can you run?” Amy asked Alice.

“I’m still practicing that,” Alice said. “But I will try.” She was happy to join her new friends on the playground on her new legs!
