Exams are a fact of school life for most people. Almost everyone worries about exams and feels stressed, although they have prepared well for them. A little stress caused by the exams is useful as it can sharpen (变得清晰) your mind and encourage you to do well. But too much stress can stop you working to the best of your abilities, so it’s important not to let it get out of control. Here are some ideas to help you.
If you want to avoid unnecessary exam stress, you must prepare carefully for exams. Firstly, try to find a copy of the syllabus (教学大纲) for each subject. This tells you what you need to know and gives you the topics for revision (复习). Secondly, make a weekly revision timetable chart and display in your study place. Lastly, record the dates and times for each of your exams in your planner or diary and make a copy to put on your wall at home.
During your exam period, you want your brain to work at its very best, so build in relaxation time before bed, avoid staying up late to review and try to go to bed early to get enough sleep. If you have difficulty answering a question, leave it and move on to the next one—don’t spend time tying yourself to each question.
You are not alone while dealing with the stress. Call psychological (心理的) hotline to share your worries and get help from others going through the same experience. Remember that things may feel stressful right now, but it won’t last forever. And the rest of your life will still be there.

Nail biting can begin when you are very young. According to the BBC, up to 45 percent of teenagers bite their nails.
There is not an exact answer to explain why people bite their nails. But most commonly, nail biting is said to be a nervous habit. It is done because of stress, boredom (无聊) or excitement.
What’s more, scientists found that people with higher levels of intelligence(智力) are the ones who start biting their nails when they are young. They believe that compared with the common person, those with higher levels of intelligence may feel higher levels of stress more easily.
This habit is bad for the biters. It can give them red or sore fingertips. And long-term nail biting can affect (影响) how our nails grow.
But don’t worry! There are many ways to stop biting your nails. First, clean you nail as often as possible. The more you focus on(集中于) taking care of your nails, the less likely you are to start biting them again. Also, when you feel stressed, try to relax. Doing exercise or having a warm bath both help. So, come on, try to do this and you can surely change this bad habit.

It was a room full of boys. A girl, about 10 years old, was sitting in the middle of the classroom. She was the only girl among the boys. Her female cousins and friends had to stay home because they were not allowed to get an education.
The girl, Shameem, was born in a small village in Pakistan. In her tribe (部族) it was a tradition to keep girls inside their homes. Fortunately, Shameem’s uncle, a university graduate, wanted to give her a chance to see the world. He offered Shameem an opportunity to attend school.
However, Shameem tried really hard to complete her schooling. To get the chance to attend college, she went on a three-day hunger strike (抗议).
After graduating from college, Shameem gained a position in a non-profit (非营利的) organization whose goal was to help women in rural areas.
There, she saw a Pakistan that she didn’t know. Once she thought she had a difficult life. But there, she saw what women in other parts of Pakistan were experiencing. Some women had 11 children, but nothing to feed them. To get water, they would walk three hours every day to wells.
Shameem found that the position was more than just a job for her. She discovered her power. Her experience could encourage more people to understand the importance of girls’ education.
Now, Shameem teaches in a rural school in her village. “The first day I walked into the school,” she said, “I saw all these little Shameems looking at me with dreams in their eyes, the same dream of freedom which I had in my childhood.”
Today, there is not a single girl in her village who doesn’t go to school. Education can change people’s futures.

Once upon a time, a hippo (河马) lived in a river next to a big tree.
One day, a bird came. The songs of the bird filled the hippo with so much envy (嫉妒) that he couldn’t think of anything else. Every day he would think why he wasn’t born to be a bird even though the bird told him many times he was so lucky to be so big and such a good swimmer.
Finally, the hippo decided to come out of the river and climb the tree and started singing. However, when he tried to climb the tree, it was clear that the hippo didn’t have wings to fly or claws to climb with. The hippo was angry and he hit the tree until it came crashing (倒塌) to the ground. Then he stepped onto the leaves of the fallen tree, and began singing.
Unfortunately, hippos can’t sing, either. All that came from his mouth were terrible noises, and when the other animals heard this, they all came around to make fun of the hippo.
The hippo felt ashamed and he also felt sad about having knocked the tree over. He used all his strength to raise the tree back up and look after it until it completely recovered (康复).
