5 . One of the most unforgettable moments of my summer holiday in 2023 was the time I spent as a volunteer at the Shaanxi History Museum. It was such a wonderful experience for me because it was my first time to work as an exhibition guide.
I was very excited when my mother told me that I had passed the interview, but as it was the first time I took part in such an activity, I felt it was an “impossible task” for me. I knew almost nothing about the history or meaning of the exhibits . In the following days, with the help of my teachers, I had to do a lot of research on the Internet to learn about the historical backgrounds of the exhibits before I could complete my task. I practiced very hard at home in order to make sure I could express information correctly. Two weeks later, I was able to show my part of the introduction in front of a group of my classmates.
Soon, it was time to stand in the exhibition hall as a real guide. I was so nervous that I was afraid to speak to the visitors. They came and went in silence. I made up my mind to make a change. I went up to a young lady and said, ”May I be your guide?” She nodded with a smile. I raised my voice and led the young lady around the hall, explaining every exhibit to her. After the introduction, she praised me a lot. I was very thankful to her for giving me the chance. For the rest of the day, I was brave and confident enough to guide other visitors.
During this experience, I stepped out of my comfort zone (区域) and learned an important lesson — take one step forward, and you will grow.
