1 . On the morning of November 6th, I went to work as a volunteer guide along with some of my schoolmates. I had just a little experience as a volunteer before.
Our group was sent to the show called “Time-Space Post Office”. This show was made up of many letters from the visitors who had attended it before. The letters were about people’s understanding of the arts or their wishes.
Soon, we welcomed a group of visitors. I was afraid to talk with them. Instead, I just stood by. But slowly, I became less nervous. I tried to speak to an old man. “Hello, I am a volunteer guide for the show. You are now looking at Mr. Ding Yi’s ‘Time-Space Post Office.’ I’d like to introduce this show to you.” “Here, we can see many letters written by our old visitors.” I continued. “In fact, everybody can become a part of this show. You can write about the future—your thoughts, dreams and hopes.” The old man smiled at me and said, “Thank you, boy! You just did a wonderful job!” After hearing those words, I was so excited.
This volunteer activity helped me become more confident (自信的). I am now looking forward to taking part in a similar activity in the near future!

6 . If you can’t see, can you still enjoy movies? The answer is yes. The Guangming Cinema project makes it possible. It provides movies with audio (声音的) descriptions for people who can’t see. Instead of watching, they can enjoy the stories only by listening to them.
What is this kind of movie like? It adds the narration (旁白) between the movie’s dialogue. The narrations let people know what is being shown on the screen, including the background and scenes in the films.
Wang Weili set up the Xinmu Theater in Beijing to serve the blind community. He remembered watching the Hollywood action film The Terminator with a blind friend in 2000 and telling every scene to him patiently. This made his friend feel enjoyable and then inspired him to start the theater project.

Since 2005, the theater has organized 1,088 free movie activities. “The government can provide special schools to meet their basic living needs. But life isn’t just made up of basic living needs,” Wang said. “The world is made up of heat, smell, color, sound, and so on. I want to describe all of these for them,” he added.

Stephen Davies was born without the lower part of his left arm. When he was at school, he had to wear a prosthetic limb (假肢). As he grew up, he found that it was gradually hard to wear his prosthetic arm as usual. And the places it could reach couldn’t meet his needs anymore.
It’s OK for adults to buy better and more expensive prosthetic arms as they can use the same one for years. Children, though, need to change their prosthetic arms every few months because they grow so quickly.
Stephen decided to do something. He had read that it was possible to print light, 3D prosthetics and he wondered if he could make them himself. He experimented (做实验) with simple but very colourful arms and legs. He discovered that he could make good prosthetic limbs quite cheaply.
Now he and his business partner (合伙人) produce “cool” limbs. They give prosthetic limbs away to children who need them (they raise money on the Internet to help with the cost of making the prosthetic limbs). One of the first kids to get a “cool” limb was nine-year-old Isabella Jennings. She had been waiting all her life for something like this. Stephen was really glad to help more children like himself.
1. What did Stephen find about his prosthetic limb as he grew up?A.It helped him a lot. | B.It became more comfortable. |
C.It could reach far away. | D.It was not fit for him anymore. |

9 . Li Jin was born in Guangxi but raised in Sanya, Hainan. In the past 9 years, Li has made great efforts to protect the waters of Sanya. He is now spreading the knowledge of environmental protection. He does this through the Internet.
Around 2014, he began doing volunteer work to clear rubbish from the beaches and officially registered as a volunteer in May, 2017. Li took the lead in a clean-up activity on the Sanya River. In April, 2021, he used his own money to set up a volunteer service center. The center has 1,170 registered members who take part in all kinds of activities.
So far, he has spent about 3, 800 hours on volunteer activities in over 550 events. More than 2,300 people have joined in the activities with his encouragement. They have drawn the attention of both adults and children to the importance of protecting oceans and beaches. His center has organized 51 beach-cleaning activities which have seen about 1,800 people join in since it was set up.
In 2021, because of Li’s growing influence in environmental protection circles, the city government invited him to make a number of short videos. In the videos, he used simple words to explain how to protect the environment. Several of the videos have been watched millions of times.
“Although many people speak highly of my work, what I have done is not for the compliment. I just want to make a difference to environmental protection. My volunteer work would be meaningless if I was paid. It is everyone’s duty to protect environment. The work itself is of great value, so I will continue doing the environmental protection work,” he said.
