1 . In March every year, you can’t miss a basketball competition called “Cun BA or Village BA” in Guizhou. On March 27th this year, there was a basketball competition between Team Qiandongnan and Team Zunyi in Taipan Village, Guizhou.
There were no superstar players, just the villagers themselves. They only wanted to do something interesting. And there were also no tickets. It was free for everyone. But to our surprise, more than 10,000 people would come to the small village to watch the “Cun BA”. For this year, the prizes of the basketball competition were so special that many people were interested in it. The first winners won a Taijiang (鲟鱼) and a wooden dragon boat. The second winners won a “Sansui sesame duck (麻鸭)”.
Taipan Village has set up more parking places and snack streets in the neighborhood for the visitors to watch the game. After watching it, they can hang out or eat delicious food there.
It is getting popular to hold the basketball competition, “Cun BA or Village BA” in some other villages. It has brought great fun to both the villagers and the visitors. The fifth grader Alex said, “At school I’m really tired, so on summer vacation I can not only relax and read books but also go outside and swim. I’ve learned many skills during the summer vacations.”
Ben, a high school student, told us, “I want to sleep more and see my friends more.” Ben is now volunteering in a food bank in the day from Monday to Friday and then hang out with friends and family at nights or at weekends. He feels his life in summer colorful and meaningful.
But not every survey-taker said their summers would be right balance (平衡) of busying and relaxing. Some think they’re too bored. How bored or busy people feel during the summer depends on how old they are. Rosa told us one of the things she wants is “being able to drive myself wherever I want”. I remember that class, as soon as I entered the classroom, I smelled the cake. The teacher had baked (烘焙) the cake, and we only need to design the beautiful cream on the cake. First, the teacher showed us how to put the cream on the cake and how to make it look nice. Next, it was time for us to design! We squeezed (挤出) the cream into all kinds of shapes, like small animals, and flowers.
Then teacher brought some sugar, biscuits and chocolate powder (粉末) for us to put on the cake. Our group chose chocolate. We put on too much, but the taste was still good.

A Chinese girl recreated a Dunhuang mural (壁画)
When it comes to Dunhuang, nothing is more famous than Dunhuang murals. A Chinese girl has spent half a year recreating a 2.1-meter high one, which has drawn public attention quickly.
Qin Yueyu is a graduate student, who is from the Shandong University of Arts. This mural is her graduate project, which is her partial (部分的) recreation Cave 159 of the Mogao Grottoes in Dunhuang. The mural is rich in color, with red and green as the main colors. The figures in the painting are lifelike and have the charm of the Middle Tang Dynasty.
Interest is the best teacher. Qin Yueyu has always been particularly interested in art. “The Mogao Grottoes in Dunhuang aroused my interest when I was watching The Nine Colored Deer, a Chinese cartoon film, as a child,” said Qin. The Nine-colored Deer is based on a mural discovered from the Mogao Grottoes in Dunhuang. Apart from recreating ancient murals, she also has a good interest in culture, for example she has learned some knowledge about the protection of ancient cultural relics.
“I hope that I can make a contribution to the protection and inheritance (传承) of excellent traditional Chinese culture, so that people will know more about China’s ancient murals,” said Qin.
