文章大意:本文主要介绍了Jerry是世界著名的登山运动员,他想把自己的冒险变成对世界有帮助的事情,他和团队帮助科学家们了解了植物如何在极端条件下生存,在冒险的同时做了更伟大的事。
1 .

Jerry is a world-famous mountain climber. He has climbed many high mountains in the world. Starting in 2015, he and his friends spent two years on an adventure in South America, covering 7,800 miles. He was even named “Adventure of the Year” by a famous geography magazine in 2018.

Although Jerry had achieved great success, he didn’t feel fulfilled. He asked himself, “Is it enough to climb the highest mountains? Am I doing something helpful? How can I turn my adventures into something that can help the world?”

Jerry learned that scientists need plants, rocks and water samples (样本) from the places far away to do research. But scientists can’t get there themselves as such places are hard to reach—only the bravest adventurers can make it. Jerry thought he could do something to help. He then came up with an idea. He set up a team of top adventurers to collect samples for scientists. By studying the samples, scientists could know more about the earth and find ways to protect it.

Recently Jerry and his adventure friends have discovered a special plant life of Mountain Qomolangma. The samples they brought back have helped scientists to know how plants live in extreme (极端的) conditions. For Jerry, this kind of adventure is most satisfying. “Such adventures had made us see life in a different way. Now, being the best climber isn’t important for me. What matters is doing something helpful while climbing the mountains. There is still much more we can do.” Jerry said to a newspaper.

1. What is paragraph 1 mainly about?
A.A geography magazine.B.High mountains.C.Jerry’s friends.D.Jerry’s achievements.
2. What does the underlined word “fulfilled” in Paragraph 2 mean?
A.Satisfied.B.Worried.C.Lonely.D.Patient.
3. Why did Jerry set a team of top adventurers?
A.To train scientists.B.To make friends.C.To help scientists.D.To study plants.

6 . In our daily lives, we are often so shy that we can’t deal with the situation that we are not used to. But what if something unusual or unexpected happens? That’s what I experienced one evening in April on my way home from work.

As I was riding my bike home in the evening, I saw a big dirty dog with orange and white fur. It looked sad and lost, simply sitting in the middle of the road by a pedestrian (行人) crossing. It seemed unsure of what to do as it lay down and stared at the passing traffic. Nobody seemed to notice the dog either, only passing him by at a distance.

At first, I also crossed over to the other side, hoping that somebody else would care for the dog. But realizing that the dog might suddenly get up and walk into traffic. I decided to do something to help the dog.

When the light changed, I saw my chance. I used my bike to guide the dog to a street corner to keep it safe from passing cars. Slowly but surely, I was able to encourage the dog to keep walking until finally, we both got to the street corner. I messaged a dog shelter group to let them know about where the dog is. Yet by the time I turned to it again, the dog was gone.

Sometimes we don’t know what we will find or see in our daily lives. Still, what matters is how we deal with them. Although I’m shy in these situations, I’m glad I found the courage to help a dog in need, even if just for a moment.

1. Why didn’t the writer help the dog at the beginning?
A.The writer didn’t want to hurt the lovely dog.
B.The writer didn’t know the small dog’s owner.
C.The writer was too shy to deal with the situation.
D.The writer was too busy to help the dog in need.
2. What can we know from the passage?
A.Before I decided to help the dog, it suddenly got up and walk into traffic.
B.I successfully helped the dog to walk to the street corner.
C.When I saw the dog, it was lying in the middle of the road.
D.Everybody wanted to help the dog except me.
3. What’s the structure of the passage?
A.B.C.D.
