1 . Trees are important and they can help us in many ways. However, some of them are in danger and need to be taken care of as much as possible. There are some ways to save trees.

Use paper wisely. We can save trees by using paper in a right way. What can we do? Use both sides of paper when doing homework. Borrow books to read when you needn’t buy them. Never throw old books away, but be kind to donate them to others who need them. In place of paper towels, use cloth towels.

Plant trees. To save trees, it’s a great idea to plant them. Spring is the best season to plant trees. If everyone around us does it, millions of trees will appear and make our world become green and beautiful.

Tell people to understand the importance of trees and help save trees. Try to write letters to government official(官员) and persuade(劝) them to use as little paper as they can.

My name is Tony. Here is my design for my dream home. It is a house made of glass and it has a garden. It is not far from the sea.

It is a smart house with a library. There are one thousand books in it! There is a big 3D TV in the living room. How cool it is to watch my favorite film on it! Moreover, there is one thing special: My house can keep itself clean! I don’t need to do housework any more.

The house is a green house. There is a garden in front of the house. Many flowers are in it. And a small lake is in the garden too. At weekends I can watch fish swim around by the lake.

There is also a mini airport (机场) in it so I can fly to other places in my plane if I want to go shopping or do some other things.

Does the house sound cool? Maybe in 20 years my dream will come true.

3 . With the help of the Internet, shopping is not a difficult job. Just click your mouse to choose the goods（货物）you like, and the shopping is finished. You needn’t walk out of the room. It seems easy and quick. But there’s a trap（陷阱）online sometimes. If you are careless, it will bring you some trouble. You may find the colour of the products is different from what you want, or the size is too small or too big. And the products may not be good. The clothes you buy may be dirty or out of shape. And you have to pay for the delivery charge（运费）if you don’t want them any more. If you want to be different, you’d better not buy clothes online. Once you put on the clothes you buy online and go out, you will find many people wear the same clothes in the street. You may not be happy then.

Do you love street food? I’m sure you do! What makes the food sweet? Sugar, of course! Do you know anything about sugar? Most sugar comes from sugar cane (甘蔗). This kind of plant is very tall.

How do we make sugar from sugar cane?

First, farmers cut the top of the plant and put part of the plant in the earth. This will grow into more sugar cane.

Next, workers make the sugar cane into big machines. One machine washes the cane. One machine cuts and turns the cane over and over. And one machine gets the sweet juice from the cane.

Then, workers make the juice hot and it becomes thick (浓稠的). The thick juice is called syrup (糖浆). Workers put the syrup into the crystallization tank (结晶罐). It turns to crystals (晶体). We need one more machine to dry the crystals. Now we have sugar.

Sugar can be brown or white. It can also be in different sizes. Then the sugar can go to the sweet factory (工厂). There workers use it to make sweets.

5 . It’s December in the north of China. It’s snowy and really cold. You can see many children playing with snow. Look! Some of them are making snowmen. Some are skating on the river, because the water in the river freezes（结冰）. It’s a white world. How beautiful! But in Australia, the weather is hot in December. Jane and her family are swimming in the sea. They are having a good time. Jim and his friends are playing soccer near the sea. The wind near the sea is really cool to them. But in December we can’t do that in China. That’s because the seasons（季节）in China and Australia are opposite（相反的）in a year.

6 . Beep! Beep! Barcode (条形码) makes it faster and easier to buy things in stores. This year, it is 50 years old!

On a Sunday afternoon in 1971, IBM engineer George Laurer thought of a code that could be printed on food labels(商标). Later it developed into the Universal Product Code, which was used by many grocery companies starting in 1973, according to The New York Times. Before this, cashiers (收银员) had to ring up prices by hand.

Today, barcodes are scanned over 6 billion times every day and used by 2 million companies worldwide. What information does a barcode hold? Where the product comes from, where it has been, its price... you name it. It can also help stores keep track of(追踪) their products. For example, if there are 10 boxes of milk and a customer buys one, it will be recorded so that the store owner knows there are nine boxes left. In the 1980s, libraries started using barcodes to keep track of books in this way.

The next generation of barcodes, such as QRcodes, can hold more information. They can tell customers if product has allergens (过敏原) or if it is organic (有机的). This provides customers with a greater level of trust in the products they buy.

There are many kinds of pollution on the earth: such as air pollution, land (土地) pollution and ①w________ pollution. What should we do to save the earth?

First, everyone should help to keep the air clean. Polluted air is bad for our physical health. So we must stop people and factories from polluting the air.

Second, we should not make too much rubbish. It needs more areas, so there will not be enough space for people to live. The land will then be polluted and fewer plants can grow.

Third, we should keep the sea and rivers clean. 鱼不能在污染的水里存活, and it may be ②i________ for us to enjoy so much seafood or swim happily in the sea in the future.

To make the earth a better place, everyone should learn to love our planet from now on. And everyone should play a part in saving the earth.

8 . Why do people cry? Scientists say the body produces（产生）tears（眼泪）because it needs them. One kind of tears is for the eye, and the other is for the heart. They both work as cleaners. If something else like dust（灰尘）gets into your eye, tears also come into the eye to clean it out. If you are hurt by something, your strong feelings produce some poisonous chemicals（毒素）in your body, and at the same time, tears come out with them. If tears don’t help clean out these poisonous chemicals, they will do harm to the heart.

In the United States, men have heart problems more often than women do. Doctors say heart problems have something to do with the pressure（压力）of living and working now. Perhaps men have more of these illnesses because they do not cry enough. They need to cry more.

In fact, you can find many ways of reducing（减少）the pressure to keep fit. Crying is a natural（自然的）and physical（身体的）one.

All around the world, people drink tea. But tea doesn’t mean the same thing to everyone. In different countries people have very different ideas about drinking tea.                           

In China, for example, tea is always served when people get together. The Chinese drink it at any time of the day at homes or in tea houses. They prefer their tea plain, with nothing else in it.

Another tea-drinking country is England. In England, the late afternoon is “tea time”. Almost everyone has a cup of tea then. The English usually make tea in a teapot and drink it with cream and sugar. They also eat cakes, cookies and little sandwiches at tea time.

In the United States people drink tea mostly for breakfast or after meals. Americans usually use tea bags to make their tea. Tea bags are faster and easier than making tea in teapot. Sometimes they drink tea from cans, like soda.
