文章大意:本文主要讲述了气候变化危及到西伯利亚鹤和其他稀有水禽的主要栖息地和越冬地鄱阳湖,因此政府对此采取了相关的保护措施。

1 . Climate change is dangerous for bird habitats (栖息地). Poyang Lake in Jiangxi province, an important habitat for the critically endangered Siberian crane, has experienced unusual changes in recent years.

“In some years, the lake experiences floods, while in others, it experiences droughts. Both Of these situations create food shortages in the cranes’ habitat,” Qian Fawen, a professor from the National Bird Banding Center of China, told China Daily.

To solve such habitat problems, China has recently recognized 1,140 sites as important breeding (繁殖) and wintering grounds, and migratory (迁徙的) stops, with most of them located in wetlands.

Wetlands include coastal areas with a water depth of no more than 6 meters at low tide. As the “kidneys of Earth” and “species gene pools”, wetlands hold clean water, stop floods and prevent droughts.

To protect China’s wetlands, a law was introduced in 2022 to check human activities at important national wetlands and ban harmful activities.

Since these actions, more birds have been seen wintering in the nation’s wetlands, including some new rare species (稀有物种). Black-faced spoonbills (黑翅长脚鹬), a rare and endangered species, were seen at Dongting Lake in Hunan province for the first time in five years. 文章大意:本文主要讲述了网络欺骗以及如何避免在网上被欺骗。

3 . Recently, many people think it’s risky to use credit (信用) card numbers online. However, from time to time, we all use passwords and ID numbers on the Internet. We think we are safe, but that may not be true! A new kind of attack (攻击) is being used by dishonest people to steal IDs and credit card numbers from web surfers. This new kind of attack is called “phishing”.

Phishing sounds the same as the word “fishing”, and it means that a thief is trying to trick people into giving away valuable information. Like real fishermen, phishers use bait (诱饵) in the form of great online deals or services. For example, phishers might use false emails and website s to trick people into revealing (透露) credit card numbers, account usernames, and passwords. They imitate (模仿) well-known banks, online sellers, and credit card companies. Successful phishers may make as many as 5% of the people believe and give away their personal information.

It’s really a big problem! Actually, tricking 5% of the online population is huge. Now more than 4.6 billion people have access (进入权) to the Internet, and 75% of those Internet users live in the wealthiest countries on Earth. It has been reported that phishers send more than 40 billion false messages each year. Even by tricking only. 5% of the people, phishers can make a lot of money.

Amy, 18, from California, received an email. A man told Amy that she could get a million dollars in her account as a reward if she sent a thousand dollars to him. Amy did as the man said at once. The “thief” used Amy’s Social Security number to get credit cards in her name and transferred her money.

How can people avoid being cheated online? Above all, they have to learn to recognize the email that has been sent by a phisher. Always be careful with any email with urgent (紧急的) requests for personal information. Phishers typically write upsetting or exciting, but false statements in their emails so that people will reply right away. Never give out personal information to phishers. And if an offer sounds too good to be true, it is.

1. How is the word “phishing” explained in the passage?
A.By using passwords and ID numbers.B.By attacking dishonest people.
C.By comparing to catching fish.D.By giving away valuable information.
2. What’s the purpose of phishers?
A.To access to the Internet.B.To find the users on line.
C.To live in the wealthiest countries.D.To make lots of money.
3. Which writing skill is used in Paragraph.4?
A.Giving examples.B.Listing numbers.
C.Raising questions.D.Using sayings.
4. What is probably the topic of Paragraph 5?
A.How to help catch phishers.B.How to reply to urgent emails.

Everybody knows that the first impression (印象) is very important. If you want to be better at meeting new people, just follow these tips.

Firstly, live in the moment. If you want to meet new people, the first thing you have to do is not to worry about how you perform and to enjoy the present moment of the new conversation. When you meet a new person, don’t ask yourself, “How do I look?” or “How do I sound?” Instead, ask, “What would this person like to talk about?” or “What matters to this person?” You can keep the conversation by thinking about what to say next.

Secondly, stay confident. If you keep up your confidence, other people will like talking to you. You should be confident before you walk into a room with new people in it and build your confidence as the conversation goes along. Just smile, talk about the things that you love. Body language can help you stay confident. Stand tall and don’t look at the floor. When you introduce yourself, speak clearly and loudly enough that you’ll be heard.

At last, master the art of small talk. Small talk is what helps you get to know people and open up to having a more serious conversation and a more personal relationship. Talking about the weather or what classes you’re taking can lead to a more serious discussion about your favorite interests, or your favorite memories from a certain time of year. Ask the person some basic questions like what classes he or she is taking, if he or she has any pets, or ask anything about his or her summer vacation or plans.

But can that be true in real life? The answer to this question is no. As a teenager, you haven’t had much life experience. Sometimes, you might have very high hopes. 文章大意:本文主要讲述了自行车动力能源的相关知识。
9 .

Energy is the ability to do work. Solar energy (太阳能) comes from the Sun. There is also energy that comes from wind and water.

But do you know that energy can come from people, too? When you pedal (踩踏板) a bike, you produce energy. You use your legs to push the pedals. Your energy is transferred (转移) to the bike. That makes the bike move.

Now imagine riding your bike to create enough power to run a computer. Some students at one school did just that! They jumped on bikes connected to generators (发电机) and pedaled in place. Soon they were producing electricity. This energy is needed to run their computers.

Here is how bicycle-powered energy works. When a student pedals the bike, the back wheel spins. The wheel spins the generator. The generator produces electricity. As long as a student pedals the bicycle, electricity moves through the generator. The electricity can be used right away. This energy can also be stored(存储)and used later.

People use bicycle-powered energy to run small devices (设备) such as small televisions and fans. They often use less than 100 watts (瓦特) per hour. However, it would be a mistake to use pedal power to run a fridge. This large machine often uses more than 700 watts per hour. The electricity for these machines comes from power lines overhead or underground.

Pedal power can be seen in schools, gyms, and homes. What a fun way to provide electricity!

1. How does the writer lead into the topic “bicycle-powered energy” in Paragraph 2?
A.By asking a question.B.By telling a joke.
C.By using an old saying.D.By making a survey.
2. What does the underlined word “spins” mean in the text?
A.Falls down suddenly.B.Breaks up completely.
C.Moves up and down slowly.D.Turns round and round quickly.
3. What is the main idea of Paragraph 5?
A.The future of new energy.B.The forms of world’s energy.
C.Using bicycle-powered energy.D.Producing bicycle-powered energy.
4. In which unit of a textbook can the text be found?
A.Unit 1 The World of Science.B.Unit 2 Friends Forever.
C.Unit 3 The Dream of the Stars.D.Unit 4 The Value of Money.

文章大意:本文主要介绍了不同动物在不同环境下的睡眠方式。

10 . There’s nothing quite like falling sound asleep after a full day of work. Like people, animals need to rest after working hard. Some animals sleep in water. Others dig holes under the ground. Some even sleep high in trees or under leaves. But they all find a way to rest.

Some animals in the sea sleep in strange ways. Fish sleep with their eyes open. They seem to look ahead far into the sea while they rest. Sea otters sometimes sleep in beds of the plants that grow in the sea. This keeps them from moving away. Parrot fish blow something from their mouths when they are ready to sleep. Then a bubble (气泡) will be formed around them. The bubble protects them from harm while they sleep.

Some animals sleep under the ground. Chipmunks (花栗鼠) sleep curled up (蜷缩) in a ball. Their beds are made of leaves and grass. In winter, they sleep for two weeks and wake up to eat the stored food. Then they go back to sleep for another two weeks before waking up again. Some desert frogs dig underground holes during the hot, dry season. A frog may stay in its hole for months.

High above the ground, monkeys find leafy places in trees each evening before they sleep. The tall trees help to keep monkeys safe during the night. Some insects even sleep under the leaf that will be their next meal. A bee may climb down into a flower to rest. When it climbs out the next morning, it is rested and ready for work.

1. What animals blow bubbles when they sleep?
A.Sea otters.B.Parrot fish.C.Desert frogs.D.Monkeys.
