Having good mental health is the key to the healthy development of every child. Kids need good mental health not only to be able to deal with challenges, but also to feel good about themselves, build healthy relationships with others and enjoy life.
A kid’s mental health can be influenced by many things, like school life and life events. While children can meet mental health problems at any age, they are most at risk between the ages of 12 and 16.
Everyone feels sad, angry or upset sometimes, including children. But if a kid feels like this most of the time, it’s a sign that they may need help. Other signs include getting on well with others, dealing with difficulties or staying interested in activities.
Some of the common mental health related problems they meet include:
✧relationship trouble
✧eating problems
✧bullying (欺凌)
✧feeling sad
✧worries
✧self-harm
➢There are plenty of things that can be done to improve mental health and help prevent mental health problems from developing. For example, getting enough sleep, eating well and doing regular physical activities are as important to children as they are to adults.
Long-lasting and safe relationship, such as with the child’s family, is considered the most influential factor (因素) in a child’s life.
As a parent, there are some simple steps you can take to support your child’s mental health. These are things like taking an active interest in your child, encouraging them to talk about what’s happening in their life. 3 . Cause and effect is one way to explain things that happen around us. Many things happen because something caused or influenced them to happen. Sometimes it is hard to look at a cause and find out what causes the effect. It may help you to start with the effect and use your reasoning (推理的) skills. Think about all the things you know that could be reasons for the effect you can see.
For example, you may see someone putting on a heavy jacket. This is the effect. To look for a cause, think to yourself, “What would make someone put on a heavy jacket?” Maybe the person works in the penguin pen (企鹅圈养地) at a Sea World. Maybe the person is going to visit an ice skating rink where the air is kept very cold. All of these things could be a cause for putting on a heavy jacket.
Now, think about a second example. The effect is a boy named Abi has to go to the head teacher’s office. What are the possible causes? Maybe he bullied (欺负) another student. Maybe he is just being picked up early. Maybe he is being given a prize!
Here is another example for you to think about its cause and effect. Cait, 13, was trying to fall asleep when her 8-year-old brother, Doug, came into her room. He looked around a bit, but nothing really out of it. Then Doug went back into the hallway and stood there looking straight up at the hall light for quite a while. Little brothers can be very strange, this was really much too strange. Cait didn’t know what to do. Just then, Cait’s father appeared and explained that Doug was sleepwalking. What’s the cause and effect, could you tell?

People eat tangyuan during the Lantern Festival because eating it shows reunion (团圆) and happiness for the family.
Enjoying lantern lights and solving lantern riddles (谜) have been important and popular activities during the Lantern Festival since the Song Dynasty. People usually hang big or small red lanterns all over the houses, parks, streets and some other public places. They write some riddles whose answers usually contain (含有) good luck and people’s wishes on paper and stick them on the hanging lanterns. If visitors have answers to the riddles, they can pull the paper out and go to the lantern owners to check their answers. If they are right, they will get gifts.

Many people catch a cold in spring or fall. There are many different kinds of cold viruses (病毒). You never know which one you may get.
When you get a cold, your body works hard to stop it. You feel terrible because you can’t breathe well, but your body is actually “eating” the virus. You get a fever, but the heat (热量) of your body is killing the virus.
Different people have different ways to deal with colds. In some countries, people may eat chicken soup to feel better. Some people take hot baths and drink warm water or milk. Other people take medicine to stop the fever.
Some scientists say that taking medicine when you have a cold is bad for you. The virus stays in you longer because your body doesn’t have a way to kill it. Bodies can do a great job by themselves.

A person is about sixty to seventy percent water. Water helps all our bodies work properly. The cells (细胞) in our bodies need water to do their jobs. We lose water from our bodies every day. We lose it when we breathe. We also lose it when we sweat and when we go to the bathroom. If you don’t drink enough water, you won’t feel well, and you won’t look good, either. Not drinking enough can cause a headache or dry cough.
So how much water should you drink every day? The answer is not so simple. Most scientists say you should drink at least six to eight glasses a day. But sometimes you need even more. If you exercise, you will lose more water through sweat. You should drink water before, during, and after you exercise. If the weather is hot, you will also sweat more. You will need to drink more to replace that water, too.
You should also drink more if you are sick. This will help flush (冲洗) the germs (细菌) out of your body and help make you feel better.
Do you want to look and feel better every day? Drink more! Your body will thank you.

Many ancient Chinese stories are about it. For example, the saying “high mountains and running water” describes (描述) the true friendship between Yu Boya and Zhong Ziqi. Their friendship came from their common understanding of guqin music.

People used their given names when they were among family members. But in social life, they called each other by their courtesy names to show respect. This was most done among people of similar age. If your elders were talking about you, the given name would be used instead of the courtesy name.
Men would get their courtesy names when they turned 20 years old. It was a symbol of being an adult. While women would get their courtesy names after getting married.
