2 . The flu can spread quickly in the air. Many people can have flu easily, but this doesn’t mean there is nothing we can do to prevent it. In fact, the virus (病毒) doesn’t live in the air for long. It needs to land quickly, or it will die. This helps us to prevent it. What can we do?

First, try not to touch things that many people touch, such as handholds of buses or subways, or the virus will jump into your hands.

Second, don’t touch your eyes, nose and mouth with your hands outside, or the virus in your hands will get into your body.

Third, wash your hands often. This won’t kill the virus, but it will help to wash it away and keep your hands clean.

Fourth, when you cough, cover your mouth with your arms instead of your hands.

3 . Make a goal to develop new classroom habits. The new habits you develop are helpful to the environment.

Recycling-Cut back on the waste paper you throw away. Get a large box. Place the box next to the garbage can. Throw the paper into the box instead of throwing it here and there. Take the box to a recycling center once the box is full of paper. Many schools can even make money for the waste paper they are able to collect and recycle. Help your school by recycling paper.

Reducing-Reduce the paper you use. Make it a habit to write on both sides of your notebook paper. Also try writing your words smaller so you can fit (放置) more on a piece of paper. The more words you can fit on both sides of your paper, the fewer pieces of paper you will need. But you shouldn’t write too small. Others need to be able to read your handwriting.

Saving-Turn off the lights when you are not in the classroom. Also, turn off computers when they are not being used. Closing the windows will also help save energy in winter.

Your new habits will soon become the old hat. This means that by doing them over and over again the habits will become part of what you do without even thinking about doing them. Our environment needs your effort (努力).

4 . April 22nd is World Earth Day—a day to remind (提醒) people to protect the earth. So on that day, our family held an activity “bottle of trash (垃圾) challenge (挑战)”. That means the trash needs to be put in a 600ml bottle. We decided to challenge ourselves and produce as little trash as possible.

My father worked online all day, so he didn’t produce any paper waste except paper napkins. He made the least trash in our family.

My mother cooked and produced plenty of kitchen waste, such as vegetable leaves, eggshells and food bags. It was not easy for Mom to deal with all the trash, but she found a way to put all into the bottle. How amazing!

My sister, a 16-year-old student, was busy preparing for her exams. She had to use paper to work out math or physics problems. She used only one side of the paper in the past. But that day, she tried to use both sides of the paper because she realized(意识到) we were challenging ourselves. She did a good job!

I was different from my sister. I love snacks and drinks. So my trash was almost from them. I was highly alert (警觉的) that I must produce less waste. I hardly ever had snacks or drinks. It was too difficult, but I did it!

I’ve learnt a lot from this activity. I realize that everyone can produce less trash. We should start with small actions to protect the earth!

There are over 3000 languages spoken in the world. Of all these languages, English is the most popular. Why has this happened?

In the 19th century, Great Britain became a powerful country. So English became an international language. Since the 1950s, the USA has become more and more powerful. The American computer and Internet industry have taken the leading position. As a result, the Internet has helped English become much more popular in the world.

Nowadays, English is spoken as the mother tongue in many countries, including the United Kingdon, the United States, Canada, Australia and New Zealand. Also, in many countries, people speak English as their second language, such as Brazil, Singapore, Malaysia, Japan and India. It is used in many different fields of life. Business people use English at international conferences. Tourists speak English when they go abroad. We can see many English signs in public places. All in all, English plays an important part in our lives.

China has largest population in the world. It has encouraged more people to learn English since the 1970s. Since the 1990s, English leaning has been very popular with Chinese people. Many of them have done well in English and have made great progress in speaking it.

Now, Chinese students are required to learn English and it’s very important for them to study English well.

9 . Parents can be very important teachers in our lives. However, they are not always the best teachers. Parents may be too close to their children emotionally (感情上). Sometimes they can only see their children through the eyes of a protector. For example, a teacher might see a trip to a big city as a valuable experience. However, it might seem too dangerous to a parent.

Another problem is that parents may expect their children’s interests to be similar to their own. If they love science, they may try to force (强迫) their child to love science too. But what if their child’s true love is art, or writing, or car repairing?

Parents usually want to pass on their values to their children. But should children always believe what their parents do? When children are young, they believe that their parents are always right. But when they get older, they will have different ways of thinking.

The most important thing to realize is that we all have many teachers in our lives. Our parents, our teachers and our friends teach us. Books and newspapers and televisions also teach us. All of them are valuable.

From the lower floors of the buildings, escaping through windows is possible. Learn the best way of leaving by windows with the least chance of serious injury.

The second floor window is usually not very high from the ground. Of course, it is safer to jump a short way than to stay in a burning building.

Windows are also useful when you are waiting for help. Be sure to keep the door closed. Or smoke and fire may come into the room. Keep your head low at the window to be sure you get fresh air rather than smoke that may get into the room.

On a second or third floor, the best windows for escape are those that open onto a roof. From the roof a person can drop to the ground more safely. Dropping onto hard ground might end in injury. Bushes and grass can help to break a fall.
