文章大意:本文主要讲述了实行二孩政策的难处。
3 . 阅读下面短文,按要求完成各小题。

Did you hear about the Two-Children Policy? Someone says that a single child may be a lonely child. There are no other children in the family to talk or play with and an only child is not able to get along well with children of his age. That’s why some parents regretted deciding to have only one child.

However, it is quite difficult for parents to decide to have a second child. For some single-child parents, especially who are busy working every day, they don’t have enough time to share with more children. For some people, money is the most difficult thing for them. They have to pay for feeding, clothing, schooling and so on. That will be a lot of money. For other people, they are worried that they are not young enough to have one more child.

This may be why more and more parents in many parts of the world choose to have only one child. In the US, for example, more than 14% of women between 18 and 34 plan to have just one child. The situation is the same in the UK. In Japan, the average number of children born in each family went down to 1.38 by 2019. The government of Japan advises people to get married early, hoping to see an increase in the number of young people starting families. This will help with the nation’s birth rate.

4 . When an exam is coming some students study alone while others study in groups to prepare for it. Which is the better way, studying alone or group studying?

When you study alone, you may lock yourself away in your room and have classical music, a cup of tea and so on to make you comfortable. Besides, nobody is moving around or talking near you, which gives you a quiet learning environment. So it is easier for you to focus on exactly what you need to learn.

When you study with a group, it helps you keep the study plan. Besides, you are likely to remember more information. This is because you can put the information in your own words rather than reading from a textbook. It’s very similar to teaching the others in your group, which leads to keeping the information better.

After looking at the advantages of studying alone or in a group, it can be difficult to tell which is better. But Keith Sawyer, a psychology professor, prefers group studying. He thinks it can provide a way for students to make the notes of their own.

Professor Sawyer advises something students must do to get better group studying. First, limit the number of people and a good number is 3 to 5 students. Second, get yourself prepared with notes, questions and topics to look over. Nobody likes wasting time and waiting for you. Finally, pick a place, date and time for when your group will get together to study.

1. 完成句子。
It is easier for you to ________ exactly what you need to learn when you study alone.
2. 简略回答问题。
Why does Professor Sawyer prefer group studying?

We all have habits that we want to give up. These are habits which are not good for us in some way or another. A habit is an activity that we have got used to. It’s not easy to break a bad habit because we have got used to it and it has become convenient.

We are so used to our bad habits that most of the time we even don’t realize that we have them until someone points them out to us. So the first step that will lead to changing a bad habit is to accept the fact that is not good for you.

Since you know you have developed a bad habit, it’s best to find out why you developed it in the first place. Find out the reason behind it, as that will help you in understanding why you’re so willing to perform that act. There is nothing to feel afraid of. You have to face it and then give it up.

There are habits that people have carried with them for years and it will surely take some time to give them up. However, breaking a bad habit is a better choice than letting it grow into an addiction (瘾). Try giving up a bad habit, and you’ll surely make progress and improve yourself in many ways. And of course, I will certainly congratulate you on it.
