文章大意:本文为一篇议论文,本文是学生们讨论中国的南北差异。

1 . China is such a big country. Different places have different charms (魅力). Students across the country are talking about differences between the north and the south.

Wu Yuchen, 13, Fujian

I think the biggest difference is the language. Each place in China has dialect (方言). For example, people in my hometown Xiamen speak the Minnan dialect. But visitors from the north can hardly understand it! Luckily, China has done a good job in teaching people Mandarin (普通话), especially older people.

Zhang Hangming, 13, Tianjin

I think the food is quite different. I grew up in Tianjin, a northern city. Tianjin is famous for baozi and jianbing. In 2016, my parents took me to travel in Hunan. I was surprised by the rice there.

Zhou Caiyan, 14, Zhejiang

I live in Hangzhou, a southern city. Hangzhou is warm and wet with beautiful lake scenery. I often see young people wearing hanfu while walking along the West Lake. 文章大意:本文主要介绍了未来世界的一些新技术的优点和缺点。

2 . What will the world of tomorrow look like? Many people today believe that technology is going to help solve some of the most difficult problems we have on the earth today. New technology may solve old problems, and it may also create new ones. ________ Each has advantages and disadvantages, as these three examples.

When we dream about the future, many of us think that we will be able to fly to the skies in our own personal flying cars. We could fly at 480 km per hour, avoiding traffic lights and busy roads. However, there will be problems with traffic control.

3D printing is another new technology for the future. 3D printers are already used to make life-size models of car parts, and man-made body parts, such as ears. As we move into the future, 3D printing will change the way we make things and the way we treat sick people. The disadvantage is that such a machine is very expensive.

Finally, people are trying to build a robot suit. This is an electronic suit. It allows people to lift heavy things and walk a long way. It might help people walk again after an illness or an accident. However, one disadvantage at the moment is the cost.

Looking ahead, it is easy to imagine a future. We’ll be able to fly to work, print out a new pair of shoes or lift a car above our heads. Although there are some problems to solve before all of this is possible, we can certainly dream of a world. In this world, technology makes people’s lives easier and safer. 文章大意:本文是一篇议论文。文章主要讨论了在电影院和在家看电影的优缺点,作者认为在家看电影更加舒适、自由和方便,因此更快乐。

3 . Where is better to watch a movie, in a cinema or at home? Different people might have different ideas. Many people think the cinema has a better atmosphere (气氛) to enjoy the movie. However, I think people are happier and freer when watching movies at home.

Watching movies at home is more comfortable. To watch movies in a cinema, you have to buy a ticket before you go there for a better seat. However, there is no need for people at home to worry about the ticket. They can enjoy movies at any time they like and with the most comfortable seats. 文章大意:本文主要介绍了几位同学对“双减”政策的看法。
4 .

In July, 2021, China introduced the “double reduction (双减)” policy (政策). It hopes to reduce schoolwork burden (负担) on primary and junior high school students. After-school training institutions (校外培训机构) are not allowed to offer extra education courses or advanced (超前的) teaching on weekends or during vacations. How do students feel about this new policy?

“Our homework is clearly less than before,” said 13-year-old Shen Yuzhe from Beijing. “Our teachers are also giving us more chances to do experiments (实验) and learn from real life. For example, we went to research earthworms (蚯蚓) in a field during a biology class. This is a much better way to learn things than just hitting the books.”

For 13-year-old Zhang Hangming from Tianjin, the best thing about “double reduction” is the increased time in after-school activities. “We can now spend more time taking part in clubs and activities, I have joined a group called ‘leadership development’ where I can learn all kinds of skills beyond schoolwork,” said Zhang.

Both Shen and Zhang find there are fewer exams now. But they think it’s not necessarily a good thing. “Exams push me to study harder. Each exam shows my progress as well as my weak points,” Zhang said.

Shen also pointed out that when burden is lightened (减轻), self-discipline becomes the key. “Some students now spend more time having fun when homework is finished early. But if you use all the free time to relax, you might fall behind other students,” he said.

1. When did China introduce the “double reduction” policy?
A.In May, 2021.B.In June, 2021.C.In July, 2021.D.In July, 2022.
2. According to the “double reduction” policy, what kind of after-school classes can’t students take during vacations?
A.Sports.B.Maths.C.Art.D.Music.
3. What is the best thing for Zhang Hangming?
A.He has less homework.
B.He has fewer exams.
C.He has more time in after-school activities.
D.He has more chances to do experiments.
4. The underlined word self-disciplinemeans           in Chinese?
A.自私B.自信C.自强D.自律
5. What do Shen and Zhang mainly want to tell us in the last two paragraphs?
A.Students should learn to be self-discipline.
B.Students should use all the free time to relax.
C.Exams aren’t necessary because they only show students’ weak points.
D.Students should spend more time having fun after finishing homework.

6 . Normally, we talk about the spirit of giving, and it is important to do this. But we hardly hear any talk about the spirit of receiving. Very few people know how to receive a gift kindly. Therefore, while we are receiving a gift, we are actually rejecting it. And we turn off the flow (流动) of love by refusing to allow the other person to experience the joy of giving.

A man knew that his wife dreamed of having a fur coat, but he couldn’t afford to buy her such a coat. He loved his wife very much and he wanted to make her happy. Finally, he decided to start a fur-coat-buying project. He saved money in every way that he could. Two years later, he bought her a fur coat-not one of the most expensive ones, but a nice fur coat. He gave it to his wife on her birthday. When she saw the coat, she said, “Oh, Bill, how could you? You know how much we need a new sofa.” Then after a while, she said, “But it is nice, thank you.” But the husband’s feelings were hurt. Two years of love was hurt by her words—she didn’t accept a gift kindly.

Do we often act this way when we receive a gift? Are we sometimes too proud, or too cold? Or are we not strong enough to let the other person do the giving?

Are you unwilling (不情愿的) to allow the other person to experience the joy of giving? After reading this passage, you may know what to do when you receive a gift next time.

3. The man was probably very ________ after hearing his wife’s words.
A.sadB.happyC.relaxedD.shy
4. From the passage, we can learn that the man’s wife ________.
A.often did silly thingsB.never gave her husband gifts
C.received a gift on her birthdayD.often bought expensive things
5. The writer mainly wants to tell us that ________.
A.giving is more important than receiving

文章大意:本文主要讲述了学习成绩并不能代表一切,学习应该是一生的旅程。

7 . From an early age, we were taught that if we wanted to be successful, we had to study hard and get good results at school. In fact, good students may just end up doing jobs they don’t like, and some even lead an unhappy life. Why is it like that?

In some parents’ eyes, school grades matter most for their kids. In reality, there are many things to consider besides the school subjects, for example, how to be a happy person, what to do to keep healthy, and how to get along well with others. That is to say, school is not just enough if you want to have a great life.

Doing well in school is different from doing well in life. Studies show that people who failed at school may not end up failing in life. You may have already known that some famous people, like Thomas Edison and Steve Jobs, didn’t do very well at school or even failed to finish school. In fact, there are a lot more than just the big shots who are successful in life without finishing school. They catch every chance to learn and finally make it to the top.

Life is really a long lesson, so long that you can’t define(界定)a person’s success by just one part of it. If you have already finished school, keep learning because what you have learned at school will never be enough to live a satisfying life. If you are still studying, whether you are good or bad at school, don’t take your school results too seriously as long as you have put your heart into it. Keep learning to make the most of your talents(天赋). That’s how you can live a happy and successful life.

9 . Stephen Hawking, one of the world’s most famous scientists, believed that humans will one day have to move into space, “Once we get into space, our future should be safe,” he said.

Today, many countries such as the United States, Europe, Russia, China, and Japan are planning to send astronauts to the moon and some of these countries want to create space stations there in the next 10 years. These stations will prepare humans(人 类) to visit and later live on Mars or other earth-like planets .

Robert Zubrin, a rocket scientist, thinks it is a right thing for the countries to do so. He thinks humans should move to other planets and build new homes there. He wants to start with Mars. 文章大意:本文主要介绍了作者不再拍假期照片的原因。

10 . For many people, they wouldn’t travel around without taking photos with their phones or cameras. And then they often post them online to share with others. However, I went on holiday last month and didn’t take any photos. That was not because I wasn’t having a good time. In fact, I had the best experience ever and lots of good memories(记忆).

My two weeks’ stay was really relaxing. Without the tiring job of trying to take perfect photos of every ancient building and delicious meal, I had more time to truly enjoy the moment.

________ However, it’s not the fact. You’re just making up that memory by doing so.

Linda Henkel, a teacher at Fairfield University, carried out a study in 2014 with 28 university students. She asked those students to watch 15 objects(物体)with their own eyes and take photos of 15 others in a museum. The next day, they had less memory of the objects that they had taken photos of. Linda said it was because they believed that the camera would “remember” things for them, so they wouldn’t watch the objects carefully.

Unluckily, most of us are just like the students. We aren’t able to enjoy the moment because of taking too many photos. So maybe it’s time that we should put down our phones more often in order to enjoy the holiday with our loved ones.
