Do you remember the last two science classes from the Tiangong space station? Chinese astronauts did many fun experiments in the Tianhe core module (核心舱). On 12 October, three astronauts of the Shenzhou-14 mission—Chen Dong, Liu Yang and Cai Xuzhe—gave a third space class. This time, they moved to a new classroom—the Wentian lab module! What did the astronauts teach? Let’s take a look.
The beds in the Tianhe module are placed horizontally (水平地), but the beds in the Wentian lab module are kept upright (竖着). That means astronauts in the Wentian lab need to sleep standing up! But as Liu Yang said, people don’t feel any difference because there’s no gravity in space. Astronauts can even sleep on the ceiling or upside down!
Liu Yang drank juice with a 2-meter straw (吸管) easily. But on Earth, it’s very hard to do this because of the air pressure. Most people’s lungs can only suck (吸) water up to 1-meter high. You’d better not try it on Earth because it’s harmful to your lungs.
When Liu Yang blew at a water ball in space, the ball shook quickly. But after putting a steel ball into the water ball, the water ball became “lazy” and shook much more slowly. The steel ball changed the water ball’s vibration frequency (振动频率). In the past, people would float a leaf in a bucket (水桶) of water to prevent the water from overflowing. It used the same science.

“How much is a plain(极普通的)ice cream?” he asked. Some people were now waiting for a table and the waitress was not patient(有耐心的) . “35 cents,” she said angrily. The little boy again counted the coins. “I’ll have the plain ice cream,” he said. The waitress brought the ice cream, put the bill on the table and walked away. The boy finished, paid the money and left. When the waitress came back, she was surprised at what she saw. There were 15 cents placed beside the empty dish. That was her tip(小费).

6 . I had my first opportunity to ride the high-speed trains last week when I had a business meeting in Zhengzhou. As someone who grew up with a disdain(偏见) for public transportation, I was afraid of this experience. I planned to fly, but was told that it would be much better if I took the train. The train was amazing. I had traveled on an Amtrak train before in the US, and hated how slow it was and how many stops there were. Chinese high-speed trains are on a different level.
First, when I say they are high-speed, I mean they are high-speed. The trains are clean and the seats are huge. There are enough power outlets(插座) and you can’t even feel how fast the train is moving. If there were no windows, I wouldn’t be able to tell when we were stopped or when we were traveling at 300 km/h—it is that smooth.
The trains are very advanced and the stations are new. The station in Zhengzhou looked like you could fit a million people in it even though it isn’t a super city. It had shops and a food court and the trains would silently pull in and out of the station perfectly on time.
I’m traveling again this week by train and I’m excited. The high-speed trains are unbelievable.

China has the largest mobile use in the world. “My wallet is no longer in use. I can buy and eat whatever I want simply with my phone. Even vegetable sellers are using mobile payment,” said Lin Jinlong, a Chinese student.
The bikes themselves are not new, but the bike sharing is based on mobile payment, big data (数据)and so on. Shared bikes are making public transportation more convenient. They are encouraging people to be more active.

9 . Some things just don’t get along well with each other. Take oil and water as an example. You can mix them together and shake as hard as you like but they’ll never become friends...or will they?
What you’ll need:
◆A small soft drink bottle ◆Water ◆Food coloring
◆Two tablespoons of cooking oil ◆Dish washing liquid or detergent(洗涤剂)
Instructions:
Add a few drops of food coloring to the water.
Pour about two tablespoons of the colored water along with the two tablespoons of cooking oil into the small soft drink bottle.
Shake the bottle as hard as you can.
Put the bottle back down and have a look. It may have seemed the liquids were mixing together but the oil will float back to the top after a while.
Add some dish washing liquid or detergent. Detergent is attracted to both water and oil, helping them all join together and form something called an emulsion(乳状液). This is good to use when washing those greasy(油腻的)dishes. The detergent takes the oil and dirty things off the plates and into the water, yeah!

5. You may find this passage in a science book for kids.
When I have something difficult to do, I always ask my mom, “Could you help me?” But she always says, “Do it yourself, dear.” Then I get so sad. I think she is a lazy mother.
For example, one day, I invited some friends to my home. My bedroom was out of order. Books are all over the table and the ground. I forgot to make my bed. So I asked my mother to help me clean it. But she said seriously, “Do it yourself, girl.” So I did it myself.
Because of my “lazy” mother, I am supposed to wash my clothes and clean my room. I even have to go to the dentist by myself if I have a toothache. It’s really hard to do everything on my own, but I have learned a lot.
From now on, I understand my mother. It’s her “laziness” that makes me clever and hard-working. Just as my mother always says, “A lady can’t be lazy or she’ll be crazy. Work can make you sunny.”
