1 . One day, while I was waiting for my father, I saw a little boy, around two years old, running freely on the grass as his mother watched from a short distance. The boy had a big smile on his face. He would then fall to the grass, get up, without looking back at his mother, run as fast as he could, again, still with a smile on his face, as if nothing had happened.
At that moment, I thought to myself, “Why aren’t most adults this way?” Most adults, when they fall down, make a big deal out of it and don’t even make a second attempt. They would be so embarrassed (尴尬的) that they would not try again if someone saw them fall. Or, because they fall, they would find a good excuse for themselves that they’re not fit for it. They would end up being too afraid to attempt again for fear of failure (失败).
However, with kids, when they fall down, they don’t consider their falling down as a failure, instead, they treat it as a learning experience. They try again and again until they succeed. The answer must be that they have not connected “falling down” with the word “failure”. What’s more, they probably think to themselves that it’s quite okay to fall down and that it’s not wrong to do so. In other words, they allow themselves to make mistakes, so they remain energetic.
I was deeply impressed by the boy’s persistence (坚持不懈) and the manner in which he did.

2 . Bob was only seven years old. One night Bob was at home alone while his parents were out for a party. He had often stayed alone before, so he wasn't afraid. As he waited for his parents to return home, he watched a film on TV. His eyes became heavier and heavier as time passed by. Suddenly Bob’s eyes opened wide--what was the sound in the next room? Bob heard the window being opened slowly. For a minute, Bob was so frightened that he could not move, and his body felt like ice. He knew that he couldn’t lose his head(惊慌失措)and began to think of the things he could do. Again he heard the sound of someone trying to climb into his home through the window.
Bob’s drums were standing in the corner near the TV. “Wait, maybe there is something I can do,” thought Bob. He beat on his drums as hard as he could. The sound was so terrible that Bob surprised even himself. He also surprised the man in the window, who ran away as fast possible. How clever he was!

3 . China and Western countries have something different in cultures about certain animals, but when it comes to pigs, we have the same idea—pigs are ugly, lazy and stupid.
Just look at some Chinese sayings such as “Boiling a dead pig” and “A pig looking in the mirror is still a pig.” And in English, there are some expressions like “Eating like a pig” and “Pigs might fly.” None of them are Complimentary.
However, pigs have some good qualities(品质). They are even as smart as dogs and elephants. They have good memories. And they know whether people treat them well or not.
A UK cartoon, Peppa Pig is a most popular cartoon. The four members in the pig family teach children from all around the world about love, friendship and the value of family. And a Chinese cartoon film, the Adventures of Mc Dull, is also very famous. In the cartoon, the little pig, Mc Dull, has a heart of gold and always works hard towards his dreams. Most people want quick success, but Mc Dull is slow and patient, and not afraid of failing again and again.
Maybe when we talk about pigs next time, we should think of their good qualities.

4 . Cars make our lives more convenient. But they can also be a problem. For example, fossil fuel(化石燃料) cars mainly cause air pollution.
To improve the environment, many countries are developing electric vehicles (EVs, 电动车). Among them, China is taking a leading role and has created the world's largest EV market.
Last year, over 40 percent of the 753,000 EVs sold in the world were sold in China, more than twice as many as the number sold in the United States.
"Filling up a fossil fuel car with gas(汽油) is more expensive than charging (充电) an electric car," said Wu Hao, who bought an electric car this year.
However, there are still some problems. It can be hard to find charging piles(充电桩) and the cars can't go far before needing to be recharged.
Some of these problems are being solved. In 2014,China had 31,000 charging piles. Now China has the world's largest EV charging network, with more than 167, 000 charging piles in total.
Developing EVs is one of many efforts that China has made to cut down pressure on its environment after the government promised to stop increases in carbon dioxide emissions(二氧化碳排放量) by 2030.
"As China goes, so will the world's car industry," The Wall Street Journal said. China has taken a leading role in the world's electric vehicle industry.
