1 . The Beijing Library in Beijing’s Tongzhou District opened to the public on December 27th, 2023. It offers the public a modern and inviting space to enjoy reading.

The Beijing Library covers an area of 75,000 square meters. It is the world’s largest and most intelligent (智能的) library, with a first-of-its-kind 21,809-square-metre open reading space. It won the Guinness World Record for the largest library hall and the largest outdoor reading space for children. The library is called “the forest of knowledge” because of the shape of its roof.

There are about eight million books in the library. It provides people with a relaxing space for reading and learning about the culture of Beijing. Over seven million books are stored in the underground intelligent stacks (书库). Robots can take the books to the reading area within 15 minutes. With the assistance of robots, people can easily get the book they want without having to search for it themselves.

Ms. Cheng lives in Tongzhou District. “I can’t wait to take my child to the library and I am happy that there is a good outdoor space for children in the library. For children, reading in such a beautiful library is really interesting. It’s a perfect place for life-long learning.” she said.

To welcome the readers, the library held a number of immersive (沉浸式的) activities on the opening day, including a concert, a traditional dress-up experience, and the creation of artistic works. The library will hold more than 1,000 activities in the future. Also, it’ll give new born babies some gifts to encourage life-long learning, including a reader’s card, a book, and a reading list.

5 . Hello, I’m Tina. I’m from Ji’nan, Shandong. It’s summer in my hometown (家乡) now. It is sunny and hot today. There are many people in the Quancheng Park. The park is near my home. I often exercise here because I love the clean air and the sunshine. And my parents often take a walk after dinner here.

Look! That is Mr. Wang. He is a tall man with short straight hair. He is reading a newspaper on a chair. Some old people are playing tai chi. What is the boy doing over there? Let’s go and have a look! Wow! He is flying a kite. The kite is like a big bird. There is small river in the park. We can see some boats on the river. Some children are sitting in the boats with their parents. They are very happy.

Antarctica (南极) is the coldest place on the earth, but every year thousands of tourists go there. Why do they go? There are no famous buildings, no hotels and no restaurants. There are some beaches, but nobody wants to go swimming. Why do people want to take a vacation in Antarctica?

Most people go to see the birds, the animals and the amazing scenery. There are seals lying on the ice. There are whales swimming in the ocean. You can also watch penguins jumping into water from icebergs. It’s one of the last untouched places on the planet.

It’s possible to visit Antarctica by plane, but most people go there by ship. That’s because the ships are comfortable places to stay, and the journey is part of the vacation. All tourists visit Antarctica in summer. In winter it’s too cold for visitors, but in summer—from November to March—it’s warmer than many people think. In some parts of Antarctica in January, it’s about 0℃. So it can be warmer there than it is in Beijing in January.

Tourists are not the only people who go to Antarctica. In the summer months there are about 4,000 scientists and other people living and working there, and a few of them stay for the long, dark winter. Tourists can visit some of these people and learn about their work in this amazing place.

As you know, Pingyao is regarded as the UNESCO World Heritage Sites (联合国教科文组织世界遗产) in 1997. It is very famous across the whole world. It helped develop the economy either in Shanxi     6     in China. Lunch will be in the restaurant next to the Qingxu Taoist Temple, which we will visit in the afternoon. You can enjoy the     7     food like Pingyao Beef. Chenghuang Temple and Confucius Temple will also be visited after lunch. In order to save     8    , we can use the shared bikes because of the one-day trip.
