Today is Saturday. The sun is shinging in the sky. My parents and I go to Shanghai Zoo. It is in the w    1     of Shanghai. We arrive there at ten o’clock.

F    2    , we come to see the monkey. Look at those monkeys! Some are playing with each other, others are eating bananas. Then we go to see the peacocks（孔雀）. How b    3     they are! They have long tails and small mouths. They are all wearing colourful clothes. They look like good-looking princesses. They are dancing together h    4    . At last, we come to see a very big animal. The elephant is 4 meters tall and w    5     about 7 tons. It has a long nose and two big ears. Its ears look like two big fans. It’s very friendly. My father takes some p    6     for it.

Today I am very happy because I have seen many lovely animals. I hope people can take good c    7     of them forever.

6 . Apples are the best fruit! Apples come in t    1    colours. Apples can be red, yellow or green. Lots of other fruits come in only one colour, like oranges. An orange can only be o    2    ！

Apples make the best snack (零食). Apples are crisp (脆) and s    3    . You can bite right into an apple and enjoy i    4    right away. You can't just bite into an orange. You have to peel oranges first. They get so sticky and messy.

Apples can be made into l    5    of other foods. An apple can be made into a pie. An orange can be made into a cake. But oranges are mostly just made into orange juice.

7 . On a sunny morning, Mr Cow sees Mr Pig at the gate. Mr Pig looks u    1    . He is going to cry. 

Mr Cow: Good morning, Mr Pig. Why are you sad? 

Mr Pig: Everyone likes you, but n    2     likes me. People always say, "How nice the cow is!"

Mr Cow: Well, maybe because they can get m    3     and cream from me.

Mr Pig: But they can get more from me. Bacon, ham, p    4    . But people don't like me, why? 

Mr Cow: I guess… Maybe you are too fat.

Mr Cow: You are fat, but very smart. We all love you.

9 . People in the United States love their dogs, and treat them well. They take their dogs for walks, let them play o    1    , and give them good food, and medical care. However, different dogs have different life.          

People say, “every dog has its day". This means that every person enjoys a successful moment during his/her life. To be successful, people often have to learn new skills. Yet, some people say that "you can n    2     teach an old dog new tricks". They believe that older people do not like to learn new things; and will not c    3     the way they do things.

Dog phrases（词组） are also used to describe the w    4    . "The dog days of summer" means the h    5     days of the year. A rainstorm may cool the hot days, but we do not want it to rain too hard, we do not want it to "rain cats and dogs".

10 . Do you hear dogs laugh? An American scientist, Patricia Simonet, found that dogs could laugh. When dogs play or w    1    , they make exciting pants (喘息). And the pants are their laughs. Dogs can laugh when they are h    2    . The laughs can comfort other unhappy dogs.

Simonet began to study the sounds of dogs from 2001. She and her students started b    3     recording dogs' sounds when they played. At last, they found that bark and laugh were different. Then, she started to study how to make dogs relax. She came to SCRAPS (斯波坎县动物保护局) to make the test. The dogs there were afraid and w    4     because that was not their home and some people might take them away. So they barked all the time. Simonet played the tapes of dogs' laughs for those unhappy dogs. To everyone's s    5    , after she played the tapes, the dogs became quiet within a minute.

The result is very important for SCRAPS. SCRAPS is using this way to make dogs quiet. So they may be chosen to take away e    6    .
