文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。主要介绍了金星的相关知识。
3 . 任务型阅读。

Venus (金星) is close to the Earth. It is the second planet from the Sun. The Earth is the third planet from the Sun. Venus is similar (相似的) to the Earth in size and mass (质量). So people often describe it as “the Earth’s sister planet”.

Scientists have been learning about Venus for a long time. First, they looked at Venus through telescopes (望远镜). But Venus is covered with thick clouds. Scientists could not see Venus well through the clouds. So they made guesses at it.

For a long time, scientists thought that Venus had water and plants. They thought Venus might have animals too. But they didn’t know for sure.

Then scientists found a way to learn more about Venus. In the 1960s, they began sending probes (航天探测器) to Venus. The probes flew through the thick clouds. They took pictures of Venus up close. They found out many things too. The probes sent the pictures and things they found out back to the scientists.

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文,主要介绍了一些基础的天文知识。

7 . In the universe, as we know, there is the sun, the moon, the earth and many stars. Through our geography lessons, we know the earth goes round the sun, and the moon goes round the earth. We have day and night because the earth keeps turning all the time. When our part of the earth turns to the sun, it is day. When our part of the earth turns away from the sun, it is night.

Just because the moon is closer to the earth than the sun, it looks much bigger than the sun. Big things look smaller when they are farther, and small things look bigger when they are nearer.

The sun is bright enough to give out very strong light. The moon can’t give out any light at all, but it looks quite bright too. Why? In fact, the light from the moon comes from the sun. The moon looks much bigger and brighter than the stars. But actually(事实上) the stars are much bigger and brighter than the moon. They look smaller than the moon because they are farther away from the earth.

There are still many other planets in the universe. All of them move round the sun. But of all these planets, only on the earth are there living things and people can only live on the earth too. At 9:00 am, on October 15th, 2003, Chinese astronaut Yang Liwei was sent into space. He stayed there for 21 hours. It was the first time for Chinese to get into space.

2. When our part of the earth turns away from the sun, the other part of the earth is _______.
A.nightB.dayC.eveningD.Sunday
3. People and living things can live on the _______.

4. When did the first astronaut from China return to the earth?
A.On November 15th, 2002. B.On October 16th, 2003.
C.On May 6th, 2004. D.On October 15th, 2003.

文章大意:本文主要介绍了在外太空有生命的想法已经被讨论了很长时间,列举了一些例子以及科学家的看法。

8 . The idea of life in outer space has been talked about for a long time. Some scientists say that life development on Earth was far too unlikely for it to have happened anywhere else. Things had to be perfect for us to make it on this planet.

Other scientists say that space is too big. Stars and other planets are far too numerous for there to be no other life in the universe.

For many years, there have been reports of visitors from other planets. People all around the world have claimed to see alien spaceships or even aliens themselves.

There have been glimpses of these so-called UFOs (unidentified flying objects) flying through the air and they have even ben captured on video. Some Americans believe that the U.S. Army found an alien spaceship crashed in the desert and then lied to the press about it. Although these sightings may be true, scientists have not found significant evidence that aliens exist.

If you go out into the countryside on a clear night and look up, you can see thousands of stars. Those stars make up a tiny part of our universe. There are more stars, planets, and galaxies than we can count. Even the smartest scientists can’t even come close to defining how big space is. The number of possible stars and planets out there is bigger than our ability to count. If we are really on the only planet that can sustain life, then we are very special in a universe full of amazing things.

1. What have some people claimed about aliens?
A.Aliens often appear in dreams.B.They have encountered aliens.
C.Aliens are extremely dangerous.D.Aliens are always kidnapping people.
2. Why does the author mention “reports of visitors from other planets”?
A.To give an example of people who do not believe in science.
B.To explain why scientists are not interested in studying aliens.
C.To raise the issue of whether or not we are alone in the universe.
D.To inform people that a spaceship crashed in the American desert.
3. What can be inferred about finding aliens?
A.It’s not possible yet.B.It’s already been done.
C.Aliens can be found in the USA.D.Scientists already know the truth.
4. What would be the best title for this passage?
A.Visitors from Faraway PlanetsB.The Life and Times of an Alien Life
C.The Mysterious Crash Landing in AmericaD.The Possibility of Life on Other Worlds
5. What is the genre of the article?
A.Narration.B.Exposition.C.Argumentation.D.Description
