文章大意:本文主要介绍了太阳系中的冥王星。
3 . 阅读短文,根据语篇要求填空,使短文通顺、意思完整。每空限填一词。

Except Pluto (冥王星), there     1     eight planets in the solar system now, including Earth. By the distance from the Sun from close to far, they are Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune. Pluto used to be known as     2     smallest planet in our solar system, and the furthest planet from the Sun.

Pluto was discovered in 1930, and was named by an eleven-year-old girl from England. Pluto is only half     3     wide as the United States. This planet takes 248 earth years to travel around the Sun. It means we need 6. 5 earth days to spend a day on Pluto. Pluto is about 40 times farther from the Sun than Earth is. Pluto is in an area of space called the Kuiper Belt     4     has thousands of small, icy objects. The temperature on Pluto is     5     low that Earth air would turn into ice soon. The gravity on Pluto is less stronger than that on Earth. So fat persons may prefer to move there, they would weigh much less on Pluto.

文章大意:本文主要讲述了科学家试图利用水、鱼和鱼的排泄物在火星上种植水果和蔬菜。
4 . 根据短文内容,判断正误(正确“T”,错误“F”)。

A team of scientists are carrying out a project at the University of Greenwich in London. They are trying to find ways to make food on Mars in the future. The project is called Feeding Mars. It tries to use water, fish and fish waste to grow fruit and vegetables on Mars.

It would take at least 21 months to reach Mars, learn about its surface and return to Earth. So it would be a big help if the spacemen could grow fresh food on Mars itself. However, farming on Mars will be very hard. There’s a lot of water that could be taken from ice just below the surface, but the land on Mars is short of the nutrients that living things need. The team says that they could solve the problem by growing plants and fish together. Fish waste can then be used to provide nutrients for plants.

“It is expected that you can grow lots of food, such as vegetables, tea and medicinal plants on Mars,” said Dr. Benz Kotzen, who leads the project. “You can even harvest fish for food then.”

1. The project tries to use water and fish to grow fruit on the moon.
2. The project would take at least 21 months to return to Mars.
3. The poor land condition makes it difficult to farm on Mars.
4. Scientists could grow plants and fish together to solve the nutrients’ problem.
5. Dr. Benz Kotzen was disappointed about this project.

5 . The question whether there is life on Mars (火星) has made the public think a lot for more than a century. A British spaceship and Europe’s Mars spaceship plan to land on Mars or enter the orbit (轨道) around it. One of the NASA’s (美国国家航空和航天局的) spaceships is expected to land on January 3, and the other is going to land on the opposite side of Mars on January 24.

Since 1960, over twenty spaceships sent to Mars have failed. Most were lost when they started flying up or landing because those were the most difficult time of any flights.

Scientists wanted to find out whether there was water on Mars. In October, a team of scientists reported that Mars was a dry wasteland (荒地). But weeks later, a second team reported differently that they had found some marks (痕迹) which showed clearly that they were made by the rivers. Such marks told us that Mars was a warmer place billions of years ago — just as life first appeared on Earth. Scientists at once asked the following questions: If what they said was true, what happened on Mars? Then what about the earth?

1. The question ________ has made the public think a lot for more than a century.
A.when Mars came into beingB.how people can fly to Mars
C.whether people can live on MarsD.whether there is life on Mars
2. Two NASA’s spaceships ________.
A.will land on the different sides of MarsB.will land on the same day
C.will enter the orbit around MarsD.will land with a man
3. The most difficult time of a flight is ________.
A.flying in spaceB.flying up and landing
C.entering the orbit and landingD.leaving the earth and entering the orbit
4. According to the second team’s report, Mars was a warmer place ________.
A.thousands of years agoB.a few years ago
C.just as life first appeared on EarthD.just as life disappeared on Earth
5. What were scientists worried about when they asked the questions?
A.Life disappeared on Mars.B.Spaceships couldn’t land on Mars.
C.The air on the earth got less and less.D.The earth might be changed like Mars.

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文,主要介绍了宇航员们可能会面临的危险,如太空辐射和太空垃圾等。

6 . As space science develops, man has learned more and more about space. Space is not only amazing but also dangerous. While working in space, spacemen are facing danger as well as success.

Scientists have found out that the radiation (辐射) is the greatest danger to spacemen in space. When spacemen are working in space, they are in danger of the radiation from the sun and other stars, which is bad for their health.

The harm of the radiation won’t be found until their children even grandchildren are born. Some special medicine may work a little, but no really effective medicine has been found so far.

Space rubbish is also thought to be a great danger to spacemen. It’s reported that there were 9,000 man-made things flying in space. About 30% of these are satellites, 10% are spaceships, and the rest are space rubbish. An explosion (爆炸) in space in 1999 made a cloud of 300, 000 fragment (碎片), each at least 4mm in size. A small piece of these even knocked a spaceship window and caused some damage (损坏).

Scientists are watching and reporting any possible danger all the time. They are working to deal with space rubbish. Although space is really dangerous, it interests many people on the earth.

We may even choose to leave the earth and live in space in a few years. So we should do something to help improve the space environment.

1. The radiation from the sun and other stars is ________.
A.goodB.helpfulC.usefulD.harmful
2. Space rubbish and radiation in space are dangerous to ________.
A.spacemen working in spaceB.people only on the earth
C.all the people except childrenD.the old people on the earth
3. The passage talks about ________ kinds of danger in space.
A.twoB.threeC.fourD.five
4. Which of the following is TRUE?
A.Scientists have found out ways to solve any problem in space.
B.Every one of us can have a travel to space in ten years.
C.The harm of the radiation may be found in the spacemen’s children.
D.Space is really dangerous, so it doesn’t interest anyone on the earth.
5. The best title (标题) of the passage is ________.
A.Space RadiationB.Space DangerC.Space JunkD.Space Travel

7 . There are many stories and poems about the Moon in Chinese history. And now scientists send spaceships to the Moon. Why? Because people are always interested in the Moon and want to know more about it. Here is some information(信息) about it. Let’s see it together.

The Moon looks beautiful and bright at night. It is far away from the Earth and if you want to get to the Moon, it will take you about 6 months to get there by car at 95 km per hour.

There is no gravity on the Moon, so people can enjoy floating there. If you weigh 68 kg on Earth, you will weigh only 11 kg on the Moon.

There are many interesting places such as craters(陨石坑), mountains and lava plains(熔岩平原) on the Moon. There is no air on the Moon, so people can’t breathe on it.

On Earth, the day is usually warm and the night is cool. And there are four different seasons in a year. But on the Moon, the temperature is very high during the day and very low at night. And a full day on the Moon, from the sunrise to the next, lasts about 29.5 Earth days on average(平均).

The Moon doesn’t have its own light. It looks bright because it can reflect(反射) light from the Sun. When the Moon moves around the Earth, it gets different light from the Sun. So we find its size often changes.

1. Why are there many stories and poems about the Moon according to the text?
A.Because people in the past wanted to live on it.
B.Because people like it and want to know about it.
C.Because people in the past couldn’t understand it.
D.Because it is a symbol(象征) of beauty and love.
2. If you are 45 kg on Earth, how heavy will you be on the Moon?
A.Less than 5 kg.
B.More than 10 kg.
C.Only 7 kg.
D.About 9 kg.
3. What can we know about the Moon from the text?
A.People can lose weight on the Moon and breathe in fresh air there.
B.People can float to the Moon now and enjoy themselves over there.
C.Two days on the Moon equal(等于) about fifty-nine days on Earth.
D.The day is very hot and the night is cool in the summer of the Moon.
4. Why does the author write the text?
A.To tell us some ways of travelling to the Moon.
B.To tell us some important facts about the Moon.
C.To tell us some interesting stories about the Moon.
D.To tell us the differences between the Earth and the Moon.

9 . There is a new sight in the sky these days —the newly-discovered Comet (彗星) NEOWISE is flying past the sun. This the first time since the 1990s when people have had a chance to see a comet with their bare eyes (裸眼).

A comet is basically a ball of dirty ice that moves around the sun. As a comet comes close to the sum, the sun melts some of the ice, which makes a tail behind the comet as it flies through space. Most comets move around the sun in a circle. Comets spend most of their time moving slowly, far away from the sun. As they pass the sun, they speed up.

The size and shape of a comets moving way can influence how long it takes to finish its one circle. Halley’s Comet is a famous comet coming around once every 75-76 years. But the last time Comet NEOWISE was here near the sun was about 6, 800 years ago. Because of the long time it takes to finish its one circle, NEO WISE was only just discovered some months ago. It was seen in March with a special space telescope run by NASA.

The name of the telescope system that first saw the comet is NEOWISE, so that’s how the comet got its name. NEOWISE is easy to see now because it is close to the sun. At its farthest, NEO WISE will be 630 times farther away from the sun than the earth is.

Even at its closest—which was on July 23 —the comet was still as far away from the earth as Mars was. But it was still bright enough to see, even without a telescope.

1. What does the second paragraph mainly tell us?
A.How the sun melts the things around it.B.When you can see comets.
C.Some facts about comets.D.Why comets have a tail behind them.
2. What can we infer from the third paragraph?
A.You can’t see Comet NEO WISE with your eyes easily.
B.Comet NEO WSE is more famous than Halley’s Comet.
C.It’s easy for Comet NEO WISE to move around the sun in a circle.
D.Comet NEOWISE is less common to see than Halley’s Comet.
3. Where does the name of the new comet come from?
A.The name of the telescope system.B.The name of the person who first saw it.
C.The name of a special day.D.The name of the country.
4. Which of the following is TRUE according to the passage?
A.People didn’t see a comet until 2020.
B.Comet NEOWISE was farther from the earth than Mars was on July 23.
C.Comet NEOWISE is always closer to the sun than the earth is.
D.Comet NEOWISE’S moving way can decide how long it needs to finish one circle.
5. What does the passage mainly talk about?
A.How to watch comets.B.A newly-discovered comet.
C.Where to meet comets.D.Why we can see comets

文章大意:本文主要介绍了火星的相关情况以及科学家对于火星的研究方法。

10 . Mars (火星) is a planet (行星). It is the fourth planet from the sun and is more than 200,000,000 kilometers from it. That is a very long way. Mars is also a very long way away from Earth but sometimes you can see it clearly at night. Most stars are white. But Mars is a little red. It is a very big planet. It is about half the size of Earth. The planet Earth has one moon. Mars has two moons. They are called Phobos and Deimos.

Long ago, the only way to study Mars was just to look at it. People with good eyes could see some things but not everything. Later on, it was easier, because scientists had telescopes (望远镜). They could see Mars come clearly. They learnt much more about Mars this way. In the twentieth century (世纪) things got even better. First of all, we had spacecraft. They flew close to Mars and sent back information. Then, they sent spacecraft to fly around Mars. Finally, spacecraft landed (着陆) on Mars.

Maybe one day a man will walk on Mars.
