2 . For most people, Egypt is a place they’ve seen only in Hollywood films. They see it as a mysterious country full of pyramids (金字塔) and ancient curses (诅咒).
But in fact, Egypt has made many contributions to today’s world throughout its long and rich history.
One of these contributions is a style of writing known as hieroglyphs(象形文字). Egyptians wrote with characters that looked like people, animals and objects. Some experts believe that hieroglyphs are like ancient Chinese characters.
Another Egyptian marvel (奇迹) is the Suez Canal (苏伊士运河), which was built in the 19th century. This waterway shortens the journey from the North Atlantic to the Indian Ocean. It has made worldwide maritime trade a lot easier.
It’s perhaps this spirit of open trade that connects China and Egypt the most. The countries already enjoy a strong trade relationship. Since 2014, China has been Egypt’s largest trade partner. There are Chinese products in almost every Egyptian home, from toys to clothes. Many people there enjoy watching Chinese TV shows. More students are starting to learn the Chinese language, the Xinhua News Agency reported.
And Egypt’s participation (参与) in China’s Belt and Road Initiative will make their ties even stronger. While speaking with Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi in 2016, President Xi Jinping suggested that China and Egypt should work together to make Egypt a “hub” (中心) for the Belt and Road.

3 . Inspired(启发) by Journey to the West, a Chinese American teen boy builds a close relationship with the Monkey King. This is the story told in American Born Chinese (《西游ABC》), a new show airing on Disney Plus.
This action comedy is based on the graphic novel(漫画小说) of the same name. It shows teenager Jin Wang dealing with high school life in the US and pressures at home.
The series(剧集) is the latest in a growing list of films and shows looking at the Chinese American experience in recent years. The trend(潮流) seemed to really kick off with the 2018 hit movie Crazy Rich Asians. The movie is often described as “The first Asian American film in 25 years”, according to the LA Times.
We’ve since seen more works looking into the Asian expatriate(旅居海外的) experience in the West with both its good sides and difficulties. Most of them also look at the relationships between families. For example, in Everything Everywhere All at Once, a traditional Chinese mother battles(较量) with her Americanized daughter after starting a life in the US. Films like this discuss the differences and connections between East and West.
But why are there so many films looking at the Chinese American experience in recent years? Perhaps it’s something to do with how both countries are superpowers with successful cultures. The films show a healthy level of togetherness. They show that, even with different backgrounds and ideas, when these two worlds listen to each other, they can not only get along but create something special.

A “dog walking trend” was started by students at Xi’an Jiaotong University. 5 . There are some popular family videos that are being posted on Chinese social media these days. In these videos, a young child calls out to his or her mother or father; the parent comes into the room smiling, turns around and calls out to his or her own parent; the grandparent then comes into the room smiling and calls out to his or her parent, the great-grandparent. This kind of family is called “four generation (四世同堂)” in China.
It started on Douyin and has been popular in social media in other countries. People from all over the world have talked much about the videos and even made their own. The videos also make some people remember their family members who have been dead. “Because of the video, I will visit my grandmother this weekend,” a Twitter user wrote. “I have to say that family love is usually a strong value in China,” wrote Justin. The “four generation” videos not only touched foreign viewers, but also gave them a deeper look into Chinese family values.
In most East Asian cultures, it is common for many generations of a single family to live together. This is called a big family. In most Western countries, most families are small families, or families that are made up of just children and their parents.
In Western culture, privacy (隐私) and independence (独立) are highly valued. Kids usually move out of the house after they turn eighteen. Many of them borrow money or work part-time jobs in order to pay for college. If they choose to keep living with their parents after growing up, it can be seen as a failure. Although family structures in the East and West may be different, the love between family members is common. That might be why the “four generation” videos have won so many hearts around the world.

10 . It’s said that the world is getting smaller with the help of Internet and transportation. People are getting closer to form a “global village” where they live as neighbors, breathe the same air and grow up under the same sky. It’s the age of globalization that affects every aspect of our daily lives, such as entertainment, clothing and food.
Popular culture has become more globalized. People in the US enjoy listening to South African music and reading Japanese comic books. American soap operas are popular in Israel.
India, for example, has a successful movie industry, nicknamed “Bollywood”, which is popular both in India and with the population of Indian people living abroad. Clothing styles have become more uniform as a result of globalization, therefore, national and regional costumes have become less common. There also has been an increasing exchange of foods across the globe. People in England eat Indian curry, while people in Peru enjoy Japanese sushi. Meanwhile, American fast food chains have become common throughout the world. McDonald’s has more than 37, 000 restaurants in over 100 countries. The worldwide development of McDonald’s has become a symbol of globalization. Some menu foods, such as Big Mac, are the same all over the world. Other menu foods are specific to that area. Globalization has brought McDonald’s to billions of people worldwide.
But there are differences. First, the villagers don’t look the same. They have different skin colors and features.Because they are from different cultural groups, they often dress differently. In Japan, women wear kimonos (和服). But in China, many women like wearing the qipao, a type of dress. A country’s existence is dependent on its culture and traditions. Every country has its own customs. People around the world celebrate different festivals. People don’t always live in peace, either. There are wars and disagreement over land, water, energy and even ideas. That’s why people set up the United Nations (UN) to deal with these problems.
