6 . What is love? Although people have written many articles about love, we have never had the same answer. But we know love is everywhere.
Once upon a time, there was a poor family. The only expensive thing they had was some gold paper. One Christmas Eve, the 5-year-old daughter used the gold paper to decorate (装饰) a shoebox. Seeing this, the father was very upset.
The next morning, the little girl brought the gold box to her father and said excitedly, “This is for you, Daddy!” When the father opened the box, he found nothing and started to get surprised. Then he said, “Darling, you should put something inside a box when you give someone a gift.” The little girl looked up at her father and said, “Daddy, I blew kisses into it until it was all full.” The father was touched. He put his arms around his little girl and said sorry to her.
Years later, the little girl grew up and went to work in another city. The father kept the gold box by his bed. Whenever he missed his daughter, he would open the box and take out a “kiss”. Then he would feel the love from his daughter.
In our life, each of us may receive an invisible (不显眼的) gift. It is full of deep love and kisses from our family and friends. There is no more precious (珍贵的) gift than this.

9 .
The Amazon rainforest is in South America. It is the world’s biggest rainforest. It covers 5.5 million square kilometers, about half the size of China! According to a new study, the Amazon rainforest may become grassland in a few years. Climate (气候) changes and human activities make it “sick”. Usually, the rainforest can get better by itself. But now, it feels too “tired” to get better. The trees may die and the rainforest could turn into a hot, dry grassland.
① ________
The Amazon is one of the world’s wettest places. But since 2005, three droughts (干旱) have hit the rainforest. The trees don’t have enough water to grow. What’s worse, as they become dry, they can easily catch fire.
On top of this, people cut down rainforest trees for wood. They burn the forest to make farmland. They clear trees to find minerals (矿产). All these activities have caused about 17 percent of the rainforest to disappear.
② ________
The Amazon is like the lungs (肺) of our planet. The rich plants there take carbon dioxide (二氧化碳) out of the air and make oxygen (氧气). They make more than 20 percent of the planet’s oxygen. If the Amazon “dies”, there will be more carbon dioxide and our Earth will become even hotter.
The Amazon is also home to over 3 million animals and plants. Many of them can’t live anywhere else. We would probably just disappear.
