文章大意:本文主要介绍了旅美大熊猫丫丫和乐乐的相关情况。
1 . 阅读下面短文,根据短文内容回答问题。

In 2003, the female giant panda Ya Ya, who was born in the Beijing Zoo in 2000, and male giant panda Le Le, born in the Shanghai Zoo in 1998, traveled to the Memphis Zoo as part of a giant panda protection and research program between China and the US. Old friends are on the way. News reported that the giant pandas Ya Ya and Le Le would come back to China in December 2022. Sadly, Le Le passed away on February 3rd 2023 instead of returning home.

It’s said that Le Le died because of the poor care he got when he was alive. He lost his weight and appeared to have a toothache that the zoo wasn’t able to treat. Before death his health was getting even worse, but no health care was offered to help him. He was only 24 years old, but pandas can live well for more than 30 years.

Ya Ya, the other panda, also shows her bad condition and sleeps the whole day. Besides she has suffered a lot from the stomach disease for a long time.

Though the zoo wanted to cover its carelessness condition from the public, their poor condition was noticed by visitors’ cameras. Many people point out that one of the worst problems is the low quality and small amount of bamboo. However, the Memphis Zoo didn’t agree with the saying.

Now, we are calling for immediate steps to honor Le Le and make sure of Ya Ya’s safe return. On Thursday afternoon 27th April 2023, Le Le’s body and Ya Ya arrived at Shanghai Pudong International Airport from Memphis.

Many of us don’t pay attention to the importance of eye care. It’s said that if you take care of your body, then you can be healthy.     1    . Natural eye care should be put in a number one place.

There are several causes leading to poor eyesight like not enough food, genes (基因) and aging (年龄增长). Televisions, computers and reading are also the causes of having poor eyesight.

Something dirty can cause redness and they will make you feel uncomfortable.     2    . If this happens, the best way is to clean your eyes by using cold water. You must also try your best to protect your eyes from harmful things. For example, sunglasses are not just fashion but they can also serve as a great way to protect your eyesight from UV rays (紫外线).

3    . Remember that vitamins (维生素) A, C and E are good for eyes. Try to eat food groups that have these vitamins. And you should do eye exercises because exercise protects your eyesight, too. If a person exercises regularly (规律地) and eats the right kind of food, his eyes will stay in good condition for a long time.

All above are natural ways of eye care that help us keep healthy eyes. Being happy all the time can be helpful to a person’s eyesight, too.     4    .

A.That is why our eyes should be given a lot of care.
B.Eating healthy foods will do good to your eyesight.
C.It is bad for your eyes, too.
D.In a word, eye care is very important, no matter how old a person is.

文章大意:本文主要介绍了人们在饥饿时容易发怒的原因,以及这种现象对人们日常生活的影响和人们的处理方法。

4 . Have you ever been angry at someone when you were hungry? If so, you’ve experienced “hangry (饿怒)”—some people get angry easily as they are hungry. The reason for this lies in what happens inside your body when it needs food.

Everything you eat would be changed into different kinds of nutrients (营养物) in your body. These nutrients would enter your blood and be passed to every part of your body and be used for creating energy. As time passes after your last meal, these nutrients in your blood drop. Also, your blood glucose (血糖) drops. Unlike other parts in your body, your brain totally depends on blood glucose to do its job. You’ve probably already noticed that simple things can become difficult when you are hungry and your blood glucose levels drop. You may find it hard to pay attention. For example, you may make silly mistakes in your study and homework. You might also have noticed that you can’t even speak clearly when you’re too hungry.

Another thing that happens when you’re hungry is behaving impolitely and can’t control yourself, such as snapping at others. In that case, even though you may already try your best to avoid conflict (冲突) with important friends, you may still be too angry to control yourself when you are staying with the people you are most relaxed with. That’s why you may find yourself being impatient with your parents or friends.

So what should we do to avoid being hangry? The easiest way is to eat something before you get too hungry. The best choice is to have some nutrient-rich and natural foods that help deal with hunger quickly and can be kept in your body as long as possible, but not fast food. The final way is to suggest that difficult situations should be dealt with after a meal, not before.

1. “Hangry” usually happens when _______.
A.the body needs food
B.nutrients enter your body
C.the blood glucose levels drop
2. What does the underlined words “snapping at” probably mean in Paragraph 3?
A.laughing atB.shouting atC.looking at
3. Which of the following is a proper way to deal with ‘“hanger”?
A.Eating something after you get too hungry.
B.Staying with people you are most relaxed with.
C.Dealing with difficult situations after meals.
4. Who is the passage written for?
A.Doctors.B.Parents.C.Students.

文章大意:本文主要介绍了水中运动。

5 . Have you tried to run or walk for exercise and then given up? If you answered yes, you should try a new kind of exercise: aquatic (水中的) exercise. Aquatic exercise is like exercise on land, but you do it in a swimming pool. More and more people are trying aquatic exercise.

Aquatic exercise feels easier than exercising on land. Why? You weigh about 90% less in the pool. It is better for your knees than running or walking. Water is about 1,000 times thicker and heavier than air. To move through the water, your body has to work for four times as hard. As a result, you can burn more calories (卡路里).

In fact, most people say they feel more relaxed in the water. They stop thinking about the things that make them worried. They feel in control of their bodies. The cool, quiet environment makes their feel good.

But what if you are afraid of the water? No problem! There is nothing to worry about. Aquatic exercise is safe and easy to lean. It doesn’t require any special skills. You don’t even need to know how to swim. Aquatic exercise is for everyone.

1. Where can you do aquatic exercise?
A.On land.B.In a swimming pool.C.In a field.
2. What is Paragraph 2 mainly about?
A.Difference between air and water.
B.The ways to do aquatic exercise.
C.The advantages of aquatic exercise
3. What do most people think of aquatic exercise?
A.Relaxing.B.Worrying.C.Surprising.
4. In which part of a magazine can we read the text?
A.Nature.B.Travel.C.Health.

Let’s say you are taking a walk along the road and you happen to see one or two waste bottles lying on the grass beside the road. What would you do? You may have different choices.

Firstly, you can leave the bottles there as they are.     1     Why should you do something about it? This is quite OK. Secondly, you can pick them up and throw them into a dustbin (垃圾箱). By doing this, you have walked a step further to help make our home clean. This action is a better choice. Thirdly, you might want to pick them up and give them to an old man or woman who collects waste for a living.     2     You’re not only thinking about doing something for the environment, you’re also developing yourself to be a person who would think of others and help them.

As for young kids, they may always have such a question: “When do I grow up?” Yes! When does a child grow up? And how can a kid know he or she has grown up? These are interesting questions. As for us, fifteen-year-olds, who are finishing middle school, we’re no longer younger children.     3     When we start to have a sense of offering a helping hand for a cleaner city and greener world, and when we have a loving heart to think more of others than of ourselves and are ready to help them, we can say that we have grown up.

Remember:     4     If we do our best for nature, nature will offer its best to us in return!

A.Nature is the most important thing to us.
B.We should know whether or not we have grown up.
C.If this is your choice, you have walked even further.
D.If we help others, others will help us.
E.It was not you who threw them away.
