文章大意:本文是一篇说明文,文章主要讲述了恐惧和恐惧症的区别以及一些比较常见的恐惧症。

4 . What’s the difference between a fear (恐惧) and a phobia (恐惧症)? You might have a fear of dogs if you were hurt by one. However, if you try not to walk down streets where you think there might be a dog, you may have a phobia. Phobia is a strong unnatural fear. If the fear starts to change a person’s life, he or she probably has a phobia. It’s reported that about 80 percent of us have at least one phobia.

Let’s talk about what the most “popular” phobias are. Flying may be the safest way to travel, but many people are afraid of doing it. Fear of heights is also very common. For example, the Spiderman actor Tobey Maquire can’t stand high places. However, he is not afraid of spiders. Rupert Grint, who acts in the Harry Potters movies, is afraid of spiders. “In one scene of the movie, we come into the large spider’s home, and there we meet a spider as big as an elephant. It’s really scary because it has hairs!” he said.

___________. For example, cats are very cute for most of us, but not for some famous people in history such as Napolean (拿破仑). Actor Nicole Kidman says, “I’m not afraid of snakes or spiders, but I’m afraid of butterflies. Sometimes when I came home from school, a big butterfly would sit on our front gate. I would climb over the front gate, move slowly to the side of the house, or do anything just not to go through the front gate.” Clowns (小丑) are not funny for actor Johnny Depp. He thinks the “painted faces are scary smiles” he saw in his childhood still make him scared. Some other strange phobias, such as caddies, old doors or windows and footsteps, also make some famous people scared.

1. Phobia means __________.
A.someone has a weak unnatural fear for something
B.someone has a weak natural fear for something
C.someone has a strong unnatural fear for something
D.someone has a strong natural fear for something
2. Rupert Grint who acts in Harry Potter is afraid of __________.
A.dogsB.snakesC.spidersD.butterflies
3. Which of the following is the best for the missing part “__________” in Paragraph 3?
A.We all like pets very much.
B.Common things can never cause phobias.
C.Some famous people have more unusual phobias.
D.Doctors say that most phobias can be treated successfully.
4. We can infer (推断) from the passage that __________.
A.phobias are common in our daily life
B.famous people are easier to get phobias
C.phobias do not change people’s life at all
D.there’s no difference between a fear and a phobia

文章大意:本文主要是小说《父亲的话》节选,表明了一个父亲对孩子深沉的爱。

5 . In a few hours Sam would fly to Germany. We looked at each other but no sound broke the silence (寂静) of our beach-side house.

Such a moment (时刻) was not the first time for us. I hardly found a quiet moment to tell him what he meant to me, or what he might face in the future.

Sam was weak when he was born (出生) but grew into a strong boy. Then he became the best baseball player in high school. I was sorry he gave up his sports talent, but proud that later he chose English literature (文学). One day, I told Sam I regretted (后悔) never traveling to other countries to know better about the world before working. Sam decided to learn German in Berlin, even though his friends thought it meaningless.

What does it matter if a father never tells a son what he really thinks of him? But when I stood before Sam, I knew it did matter. My father and I loved each other. However, I always regretted never hearing him put his feelings into words.

“Sam, if I could pick, I would pick you.” I said, and that was all I could say. I wasn’t sure if he understood what I meant. Sam came over to me and threw his arms around me, saying “Thank you.” My eyes misted over (模糊). Then, the moment ended, and Sam left home.

Thousands of miles away Sam might be busy walking in the street of Berlin.

What I said to Sam was clumsy (笨拙的) and not new. It was nothing. But, it was everything.

文章大意:本文主要讲述了Rick之前是一个很调皮的孩子,有一次作者让学生们写出对别的学生的好评,Rick看到其他同学这么喜欢他,从而改变了他的人生。

6 . Rick was one of my third-grade students. 35 students were well behaved (表现好), but he was one in one million. Rick liked talking in class, so he was a real chatterbox. I had to remind him repeatedly that talking without permission (允许) was not allowed. However, he politely apologized (道歉) to me every time I told him not to do it again, “Thank you for telling me, Madam!” But I was used to hearing it many times a day.

One Friday, after working hard on a new idea all week, I felt that the students were edgy (烦躁不安的) with one another. So I asked them to write down the names and the nicest things of other students so that they could find others’ good sides. As the students left the room, they handed me the paper.

That Saturday, I wrote down the name of each student on a piece of paper and listed what everyone else had said about that person. On Monday, I gave each student his or her list. Some of them ran two pages. After reading them, each student was smiling. “I didn’t know others liked me so much!” Rick said.

Many years later, I got a call from Rick’s parents and learned of his death. And then I received a wallet with two pieces of notebook paper. I realized that the pieces of paper were the ones on which I had listed all the good things each of Rick’s classmates had said about him. My eyes were full of tears.
