文章大意:本文通过讲述了作者发生在自己身上的事情,通过这件事作者领悟出应该对自己身边的人有礼貌。

1 . I bumped into (撞上) a stranger as he walked by me. “Oh, excuse me,” I said. He replied with a smile and said, “Please excuse me too. I wasn’t watching out for you.” We apologized (道歉) and went our own ways…

Later that day, when I was cooking, my daughter was standing too close to me. When I turned to reach for some milk, I nearly knocked her over.

“Move out of the way!” I shouted.

She walked away sadly. But I didn’t feel like I had to apologize to her.

While I was in bed that evening, my husband said to me, “While dealing with a stranger, you were polite, but with a daughter you love, you were unkind. Your daughter brought you some flowers. She picked the flowers this afternoon. You’ll find them in the kitchen by the door. Have you seen the tears in her eyes?”

I quietly went to my daughter’s bed.

“Honey,” I said. “Are these the flowers you picked for me?”

“I found them by the tree. I picked them because they’re pretty like you. I knew you’d like them, especially the blue ones.”

I tearfully replied, “Oh, my dear, I’m really sorry for what I did today. I shouldn’t have shouted at you.”

“It’s okay. I love you anyway,” she said as she kissed me on my cheek. If we can be polite to strangers, why can’t we do the same for the ones we love?

3 . ChatGPT, a new chatbot model created by a laboratory in the USA, has quickly become popular around the world. It can do many things as people like answering questions, doing translations, giving the main ideas of passages and even writing codes (代码) for a computer program. It is just like a human living inside a computer.

ChatGPT is making people’s life a lot easier. However, it also means job losses. If a computer program can write code, then it would make a programmer lose his job. That may be a worry, but it is still too early to worry about that.

On the one hand, it’s still not that creative. A computer can quickly draw a picture, but that picture will be based on (基于) pictures that it has seen. It can also write books about the future, but the books will be based on articles about the future that it has read. For example, a human imagines the future and then tries hard to realize it. Although a computer can imagine a future faster, it can’t imagine a world of future as well as humans. On the other hand, some answers to difficult questions by ChatGPT may be strange, but people can answer them better after deep thinking. So there is no need to worry too much.

But one thing we must agree is that AI technology has progressed quickly!

根据短文内容,判断下列句子正(T)、误(F)。
1. ChatGPT is a new chatbot model invented in America.
2. There is a real man working inside the computer so ChatGPT can do many things as people.
3. A programmer may lose his job when a computer program can write codes.
4. Both a computer and humans can imagine a world of future well.
5. All kinds of answers can be answered by ChatGPT perfectly.

7 .

Jonathan, a turtle on the island of Saint Helena in the South Atlantic, turned 190 years old. This makes him the world’s oldest living land animal.

In fact, Jonathan is probably older than 190. In 1882, Sir William Grey-Wilson, governor (州长) of the island, got him as a gift. At that time, Jonathan was already an adult.

Since it takes more than 50 years for a turtle to become an adult, animal experts say Jonathan must have been born before 1832. So his birthday was set on December 4th, 1832.

In 1890, Sir Grey-Wilson became the governor of this island. He took Jonathan with him to live at the governor’s home, called Plantation House. Since then, over 30 other governors have come and gone from Plantation House. But Jonathan has stayed. And now he shares his home with three other turtles.

It is hard to understand how much the world has changed in the past 190 years. Jonathan was born before the Internet, computers, TVs, radios and telephones. He was born before global (全球) warming began and before plastic (塑料) was invented.

But Jonathan’s interests do not change. He loves sleeping and eating. He likes to warm himself by sleeping in the sun. When the weather gets cold, he digs himself into grass to keep warm.

Though Jonathan is still very active, he does have some health problems. He is blind and cannot smell, so people need to feed him by hand. But he can hear well. And he eats a lot. He eats a lot of vegetables and fruits, including cabbage and carrots, as well as apples and bananas.

Scientists have even studied Jonathan to get health reasons from his eating and cells (细胞). His cells do not mutate (突变) the same way human cells do. Scientists also hope to find some secrets to fighting cancer (癌症) in humans.
