文章大意:本文是记叙文。主要讲述了作者个人的经历和感受,通过回顾自己的跑步习惯和减肥过程,强调了自律在实现目标中的重要性。

2 . Starting a daily running routine needs determination. Looking back on my old running routine, it wasn’t so much the passion that affected my sticking to a regular schedule — but it was the environment. There had to be no rain pouring down, there had to be not many people on the basketball court and the ambient (周围的) temperature had to be just right. Or maybe I was just making an excuse for myself not to get up at 5 in the morning?

I was quite successful at doing so when I was 15 and when it was summer. When I was overweight, I ate more snacks than the actual full meals in a day, and I hardly got off the sofa. One summer day, I decided that it was time to put a stop to the idea that I was just the fat kid. I didn’t want to put in that box anymore. There was a tipping point (临界点) where inspiration happened, and discipline (自律) just took over from there. I needed to make sure that I ran 10 laps of the park a day — this was the contract (契约) I made with myself that summer. And if I achieved that, I knew I’d be closer to my goal of being just a kid with normal weight.

Ten laps, six days a week — sometimes no breakfast, hardly a bite at dinner, one snack a day—this lasted two months. I’d lost over 30 pounds that summer, which was roughly a quarter of my body weight. Some days, I didn’t have the motivation. But the contract I made with myself kept reminding me — if I’d break it, would I even bother making future self-contracts anymore? There were sleepy days, and there were days when I should have rested my trembling knees, but discipline won over them all.

B.Summer is a season for people to be fat.
C.Good eating habits could make one put on weight.
D.Getting up late made him a fat kid.
3. Why did the author keep the contract that made with himself?
A.He felt looked down upon when he was fat.
B.He couldn’t find a right word to describe his size.
C.He made up his mind to achieve his goal of losing weight.
D.He was too fat to find the right size of clothes or shoes.
4. What can be the best title for the passage?
A.My Running Routine Was Affected by the Environment.
B.It Was Unpleasant to Be Overweight.
C.I Made a Contract on Running.

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了锻炼对精神的几个重要好处。

5 . If you hope to improve your health, exercise is obviously a good way. But do you know that it has great effects on the mind too? We often pay little attention to the great mental benefits that exercising regularly can have. It will allow you to stay active and healthy for a long time, allowing you to have both the physical and mental (身心的) benefits.    1

Improve your mood (心情) . Exercise is just what you need if you’re looking for some positive feelings. It is possible that you have experienced a happy time after exercise. While you are exercising, “happiness hormones (荷尔蒙)” are released.     2

Reduce stress. If you’re feeling stressed, this feeling will disappear after exercise.    3    Because it helps reduce the level of the “stress hormone” which leaves you feeling tired and stressed.

4    If you take regular exercise, you’ll find the results last longer too. So over time, you’ll have a higher ability to stay focused while completing tasks if you exercise regularly.

Improve your memory. According to a study by the University of British Columbia, regular exercise increases the size of the hippocampus (a part of the brain).    5

So, it is clear to see that there are many different benefits regular exercise can have. With these benefits for the mind, there now shouldn’t be any excuse not to start and lead an active, balanced life.

A.Increase your focus.
B.Increase your sense of self-worth.
C.Regular exercise keeps your mind calm.
D.They fill you with positive and happy feelings.
E.Exercise is a quite wonderful way to reduce stress.

8 . E-sports describes the world of competitive, organized video gaming. Competitors from different leagues or teams compete in the same video games: Fortnite, League of Legends, Counter-Strike, Call of Duty, to name a few. These gamers are watched and followed by millions of their fans all over the world, who attend live events or watch on TV or online. Streaming services, like Twitch, allow viewers to watch their favorite gamers playing in real time.

According to a report from Newzoo, a market analytics (分析) company, 380 million people worldwide will watch e-sports this year. Most of these e-sports lovers will watch from North America, China and South Korea.

Colleges have even got in on the action. More than 50 colleges in America have e-sports programs, recognized by a governing body called the National Association of Collegiate E-sports. NACE tournaments (锦标赛) give out thousands of dollars in prize money, which is put to scholarships for the winners.

E-sports players, like traditional athletes, can make big money. Tournaments can provide millions of dollars in prize money, which is typically divided among the players on the winning teams. That means a world’s very tip-top player can easily earn up to seven figures of money in a year. Teams and event organizers also earn money from ticket sales for these competitions. The popular League of Legends Tournament from 2017 brought in $5.5 million in ticket sales.

At the end of 2018, 1.6 billion people had some knowledge of e-sports — that’s more than one fifth of the entire world’s population. E-sports will continue to grow as an industry in the foreseeable future. So if you haven’t heard much about e-sports yet, give it time. Its spread, both globally and culturally, is certain to happen.

9 . American Harvey Sutton, a 5-year-old boy, just finished walking the whole length of the Appalachian Trail (路线), one of the longest footpaths in the world. Harvey is one of the youngest people ever to walk the trail. He and his parents completed the trip in 209 days.

Harvey climbed over tall rocks and got to watch wild animals. “The rock climbs were really hard but fun. We were not bored.” said Harvey. His parents tried hard to him happy and excited. His father said meeting and talking with other hikers along the way prevented boredom.

Harvey was 4 years old when he and his parents began their walk in January. He turned 5 before the family completed the trip earlier this month in Maine. But the youngest of all to finish the trip may be Juniper Netteberg. The little girl finished walking the footpath at age 4 with her parents last October.

The long hiking may seem like an extreme activity for a child, but Dr. Laura Blaisdell sees no harm. She is a children’s doctor and medical adviser to the American Camp Association. Dr. Blaisdell said children are strong enough for the experience if parents attend to their child’s usual social and emotional development.

Harvey’s, trip earned admiration from another hiker, Dale Sanders. He is the oldest person to hike the footpath, which he did at age 82. “It’s going to change his life forever, and his parents’ life, too. The kid went through some hardships, but don’t we all? Hardships make us stronger,” said Sanders, now 86. “That kid is going to smile through life.”

1. Which of the following words can best describe Harvey’s trip?
A.Exciting but adventurous.B.Difficult but interesting.
C.Boring and dangerous.D.Terrible and scary.
2. What is Dr. Blaisdell’s attitude to children’s hiking?

4. What is the best title for the text?
