2 . When the coronavirus pandemic forced people to work out at home, doctors were seeing patients coming in with various home-gym-inspired injuries. So, how to be safe during home workouts?     1

Check your workout space for potential danger

2     But that doesn’t mean you can just start jumping around in your living room, basement or garage. Make sure you give yourself more open space than you think you need so you don’t hit anything while moving — for example, lunging and running into a coffee table.

Dress for (workout) success

Working out in your pajamas might be convenient, but wearing cozy clothes can limit your movements. Make sure you wear sneakers if you choose to wear anything, since it’s easy to slip or trip when wearing socks or slippers.     3     Experts say there are benefits to walking around barefoot, such as a boost in foot strength, stability and balance.

    4

Hiring a personal trainer might seem unnecessary in this new world of online classes and workout videos. But it can be a smart investment. While there is nothing wrong with online classes and videos, the instructor can’t see you and evaluate your form. Plus, sometimes you cannot understand what the instructor is saying.

Warm up, cool down, don’t overdo it

It’s important to warm up before exercising, cool down afterward when trying something new.       5     For active workouts, dynamic stretches such as leg swings as your warm-up and static stretching afterward is a good choice. For strength training, precede your workout with several light repetitions of the exercise you are about to do.

A.Spring for a personal trainer.
B.But going barefoot can work, too.
C.They can benefit you in many aspects.
D.A good warm-up/cool-down routine depends on what you’ll be doing.
E.Here are several things you can do to help ensure you stay injury-free.
F.Most people don’t have a home gym, nor the space or money to create one.
G.People cannot go to the gym for workout during the coronavirus pandemic period.

3 . “Humans can develop certain abilities we aren’t born with by practicing animals’ movements,” the traditional Chinese Wushu lovers believed in the past—and still do today.

Chinese Five-Animal Exercises, also known as Wuqinxi, are the first complete set of qigong exercises following the movements of animals: monkeys, deer, birds, bears and tigers. They were created by one of the greatest doctors in Chinese history, Hua Tuo, more than 1,800 years ago.

The Five-Animal Exercises are well-designed to help blood circulation (循环), and let the energy go smoothly in the body so as to improve the health.

“The bear movements are good for the stomach. The tiger movements can reduce the pain in the back. The deer movements help reduce the fat around the waist (腰). The bird movements can help keep our knees healthy and the monkey movements can be good for the heart.” said Hua Yi, the 59th inheritor (继承人) of Wuqinxi.

For those new learners, the first few exercises might not go well. You may find it hard to focus (集中注意力). Wear comfortable clothes, keep peaceful in your mind, try to move slowly… Little by little, you’ll feel more and more harmonious with nature. You may even feel you become a tiger or a deer, walking in the forest freely.

These exercises need no tools and they are easy to learn. You can search online for the videos and practice them at any time when you feel like relaxing your body and mind. Because it’s fun to practice and good for health, Five-Animal Exercises are becoming more and more popular in recent years, not only in China, but also in many other places of the world.

3. Why is Wuqinxi becoming popular?

4 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

My mum and grandma drove me to a 5km race. There was a fierce thunderstorm, and when we got there, I had to wait for it to pass beneath an overhang (屋檐) with the other runners. I started to feel a little nervous, because some of the people there looked really fast. They had proper running shoes and long skinny legs. They were all different ages. I wasn’t wearing running clothes; just a normal T-shirt and shorts.

An hour after the official start time even though it was still raining, the race organisers said we could go. That morning, I was running confidently and feeling strong. The route went through a neighbourhood and there were quite a few people cheering us on, but I didn’t see any faces I knew. It started to pour again, but I love running in the rain: It keeps me cool and I can keep going for longer, even when I get tired, when I run, I don’t wear a watch to see what distance I’m at;I just focus on moving, breathing and how my body feels.

At one point, I came to a split (分叉) in the course. A woman who was directing us blocked off (封锁) the route which I was meant to take and told me to go the other way, so I followed her directions.

I was confused, but just kept running. I knew I must be close to finishing the 5km, but I couldn’t see the finishing line. After a while I saw route directions for a 10km race. I was worried and thought I was lost, but had to keep going. My body started to get tired and my muscles a little sore. I said to myself, “You’re almost there. Just keep breathing.” Eventually I saw the finishing line and spotted my mum. She looked angry. I got past the line and she was yelling, “Why did you do this, Kade? You are in so much trouble.”

5 . How to enjoy working out if you hate exercise

Regular physical activity helps people build their bodies, it is also great at fighting anxiety and depression. However, not everyone is into sports. How can you create a workout routine you can stick with and enjoy?     1

Make exercising a regular part of your day.

At first, I took a casual approach to exercise and worked out every other day, but if I didn’t make it, I just let it go. The problem was, I kept finding reasons to bag my workouts.     2     So I changed my approach and decided exercise had to be a regular part of my day, like eating or sleeping. Now setting a specific time for working out helped keep me on task.

    3

One of the biggest mistakes beginners make is doing too much, too soon. If you want to try running, don’t go out and run 3 miles as fast as you can. Alternate running a block or a minute with walking a block or a minute for just 1 mile and build from there. This same principle applies to any new activity you select. And give your new activity time, as it takes a while for a new behavior to become a habit.

Find a form of exercise you like doing.

Not everyone will get into running, like I did. Try various exercises and see what suits you. It might be running, swimming or biking.     4     It’s all movement, and that's all good.

Add fun factor to the exercise.

Even if you find an exercise you enjoy, not every workout will be fun. Sometimes you’ll be tired or just not in the mood to work out. This is when it’s time to get creative. Regularly exercising with a friend can help motivate both of you to keep it up. Drive to your favorite park, join a friend in their favorite activity or treat yourself to some new workout clothes.     5

A.Soon I was running just one day a week.
B.Do whatever it takes to keep exercising.
C.Here are four tips I’ve found beneficial.
D.Start slowly, and give your new routine time.
E.The more exercise you take, the healthier you will be.
F.Below are several things you should do to ensure safety.
G.Or you might prefer working out to a video or dancing in your own room.

9 . All human societies play games.Kicking a ball can be found everywhere whether just a ball of cloth,or a skin stuffed with feathers or air.

But complex games and team sports have tended to arise in big civilizations - the higher the cultural level of a society, the greater the complexity of interaction, and hence perhaps the more complex the forms of sport.

This is not always the case. The ancient Greeks, for example, preferred individual not team sports. But in China for well over 2,000 years, people played the game of “kickball” - cuju. The members were often young men from wealthy families though there were also professional kickballers, whom you could stick with in your team as sleepers.

Cuju was played as entertainment at court banquets or the reception of foreign ambassadors.Even emperors played kickball.

As you'd expect in a Confucian society, kickball clubs were keen on the key qualities of mercy and courtesy.A great player was one who showed “the spirit of the game”.The “Ten Essentials of Kickball” included respect for other players, polite behaviors and team spirit. There was to be no ungentlemanly behavior,no dangerous play, and no hogging(独占)the ball.In other words,as we used to say,“play up and play the game.”

What a contrast with the ancient Greek athletics where only victory counted and if that needed gamesmanship,or cruel professional fouls(犯规),then so be it.

As a way of national culture protection, cuju was listed into the first batch of China's intangible cultural heritages(非物质文化遗产)in 2006.
