There are no big screens or superstars and yet an outdoor basketball court in rural China has attracted tens of thousands to its matches     1    the atmosphere equals America’s National Basketball Association (NBA) games.

Widely known as CunBA, the basketball event     2     (hold) in Taipan Village in Taijiang County in Guizhou Province every year, which is an important part of a Miao ethnic harvest festival. The matches are organized     3    (local) by villagers, without any involvement from authorities.

From July 30 to August 2 this year, 16 teams from across Guizhou Province took part in the     4    (compete) named Guizhou Beautiful Village Basketball League. Most of the players were farmers, with only the referees    5     (have) professional experience. More than 10,000 people watched the games every evening and millions watched online.

Because of the popularity of the games, many had to stand outside the seating area, even climbing onto nearby hills and rooftops     6    (watch). During the breaks of these matches, local artists performed     7    (tradition) Miao-style dances, forming a kind of cheering squad. After 27 matches, a team from Liping County     8     (win) the championship after beating a team from Kaili City, with     9    score of 102 to 85. One of the players, Yang Changyi, said, “Basketball is our hobby. Although we are not professional players, we have a dream in our heart－to show ourselves     10    a bigger stage. ”

Figure skating is known for its marvelous moves. There is one     1    (call) the “quad Axel ” or “4A.” , which is widely considered to be the hardest jump in figure skating. In terms of difficulty, there are six     2     (type) of jumps in figure skating. The Axel (阿克塞尔跳), also known     3     the Axel Paulsen jump after its creator, is the most difficult one. It is a type of “edge jump,”     4     (mean) skaters have to skate on one side of the blade when lifting off the ice.

Derived(衍生) from the Axel jump, the quad Axel sits at the top when it comes to jump difficulty as it     5    (actual) requires a skater to complete a quad Axel rotation and an extra half revolution(旋转). Among all the Axel jumps, it has a specific requirement for skaters     6    (jump) up while facing forward. So in such cases, there is always an extra half turn     7     one needs to complete to ensure they land backwards.

Although no one has yet conquered the move at any competitions, the world’s high-level Japanese skater Yuzuru Hanyu had given it the     8    (close) go during the Japanese national championship in 2021. However, as it was not quite a perfect success, it was downgraded(降级)due to     9     (he) two-footed landing. Hanyu, nicknamed by many fans as the “Ice Prince”     10    (have) always dreamed of completing this most difficult move.
