文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了有组织的体育运动对学生是有益的。

1 . Over the past few decades, children have been taking part less in free play and more in organized sports. While doing organized sports has both social and physical benefits for young children, worries about safety and benefits increase.

Though most children are naturally likely to be physically active, not all kids are willing to get up and move. Soccer coach Joseph Luxbacher says, “Every kid has the possibility of being a good sportsman in different kinds of sports. Participating (参加) in organized sports such as the school soccer team introduces direction to children’s physical activities. Following a team schedule gives kids a set time and place to exercise. As a result, kids can be safe from accidents and be protected against physical harm.”

What’s more, participating in organized sports gives children time to communicate with others and shows good sportsmanship. For young children who may still be very self-centered, participating in team, sports teach them to think about the group and encourages them to be glad about the success of their teammates. Kids can also benefit from spending time with their coach and having a chance to develop a positive (良好的) relationship with an adult other than their parents, especially if the coach is both skilled and devoted (全心全意的) to being a positive instructor.

Playing organized sports requires a lot of time for practice and games, so it would seem that this could influence students’ study. Actually it can ameliorate students’ test performance. That’s because to play organized sports well, players have to memorize information, do repetitive actions, and learn from teammates. All these types of learning skills can make students score higher.

Since stress can come from many different sources — parents, coaches, teammates or themselves — many children who participate in organized sports feel pressured to succeed. While a little stress can be helpful in leading children to perform with increased focus and strength, too much stress will leave young kids feeling very tired. Organized sports are more likely to put the right amount of pressure on them.

1. What can we learn from Joseph Luxbacher’s words?
A.Organized sports can help develop kids’ talents.
B.Most children prefer free play to organized sports.
C.Most children have a set time and place to exercise.
D.Organized sports can better protect kids from injuries.
2. What is paragraph 3 mainly about?
A.Ways to attract kids to organized sports.
B.Standards of a good organized sports coach.
C.Social skills developed by playing organized sports.
D.Positive parent-child relationships built by doing sports.
3. What does the underlined word “ ameliorate” mean in paragraph 4?
A.Score.B.Record.C.Check.D.Improve.
4. What is the best title for the text?
A.How organized sports can benefit childrenB.How to coach children in organized sports
C.How organized sports put pressure on childrenD.How to be a good teammate in organized sports

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章说明了运动员们喝运动饮料的广告可能会误导孩子们喝更多的运动饮料,而这对身体有不良影响。

4 . Sodas such as Coke or Pepsi are responsible for adding to health problems like tooth problems and obesity (肥胖). So health leaders have recommended teens cut back on sugar-sweetened sodas. However, their push may have had an unplanned result. Many of the advertisements aimed at teens show fit athletes having sugar-sweetened sports drinks. They make sports drinks look like a healthy choice for teens compared to sodas. As a result, teens are turning to this kind of drink.

Scientists at Harvard University in Massachusetts focused on teens, who are considered more likely than younger kids to buy their drinks. In 2015, 22,000 high school students were surveyed, and almost 6 in 10 of them reported having at least one sports drink in the past week. That was up slightly from 2010. The Harvard study found that almost one-third of teens drank one to three sports drinks in the previous week. Just over 1 in10 reported having four to six drinks. Teens who played on sports teams were likely to have one or more sports drinks each day. Boys were more likely than girls to have the drinks, scientists found.

The same was true for teens who watched more than two hours of television. Scientists say they are concerned because of ties between TV watching, ads, and obesity. Experts say that many children don’t need a sports drink that is full of carbohydrates (碳水化合物) and sweeteners. This especially applies to children sitting in front of a TV. The better option is water or unsweetened drinks.

“There is no reason to have carbohydrates in sports drinks unless you are in a high-level game, said Nyree Dardarian, the leader of the Center for Integrated Nutrition and Performance. “Someone on a long bike ride or in an all-day race might want to have one. If children are playing for 20 minutes, they just need water.”

There are other choices. Water and oranges would provide all of the recommended amounts of vitamin C for kids. Other ideas include flavoring water by adding fruit to it. Kids can also add a small amount ofjuice.

1. What unplanned result may health leaders’recommendation cause?
A.Teenagers are turning to sports drinks instead of sodas.
B.Teenagers are being confused by different ads of drinks.
C.Teenagers are buying more sugar-sweetened sodas.
D.Teenagers are having more health problems.

A.Teenagers’ favorite kinds of sports drinks.
B.Teenagers’ habits of having sports drinks.
C.The influence of sports drink ads on teens.

3. What does the underlined word “This” in Paragraph 3 refer to?
A.Playing on sports teams.B.Preferring carbohydrates.
C.Needing no sports drinks.D.Suffering from health problems.
4. What is implied in Nyree’s words?
A.Sports drinks are unsuitable for children with light exercise.
B.People should give up sports drinks with carbohydrates.
C.Sports drinks are a better choice for heavy exercisers.
D.Children should do more outdoor exercise.

文章大意:本文是一篇记叙文。文章通过作者的儿子和女儿参加运动的经历,启迪我们,运动是塑造和培养更多自我激励和快乐的孩子的最好方式,帮助他们变得更有上进心,更快乐的成年人。

5 . As the parent of two teenagers who have played multiple sports over the years, I’ve seen the good, the bad, the ugly and the absolutely cruel.

However, when I think about the value of sports and why my kids continue to play sports, I find that playing sports can help kids become successful adults. Through sports, kids learn how to work in teams, how to challenge themselves to be better, and how to behave when they lose and when they win. Whether kids play soccer, baseball, or football, they learn they are part of a team where one person depends on another.

When my son plays baseball, he’s not the only one who needs to play well; he depends on his defense to make the plays on the field. When my daughter plays tennis, she depends on her partner to cut off the ball at the net and win the point, and the tennis team depends on each person in order to win the overall match and become the champion. Sports also teach children to trust and respect the decisions of someone who understands how the entire team needs to work in order to succeed.

Sadly, though, youth sports have suffered from the “winning isn’t everything; it’s the only thing” attitude. They have become too much of a reflection of professional sports. Winning is a happy result, but the lessons from losing are even more important. When my daughter loses the tennis match, her coach reminds her that she shouldn’t lose heart and that she should learn more from losing than from winning. Losing makes you focus on improving your skills and your strategy. We’re going to learn from our mistakes and not repeat them.

I believe that participating in youth sports is much more than building a sound body. Sports are the best way to shape and build more self-motivated and happier children and help them become more self-motivated and happier adults.

1. What is the author’s attitude to youth sports?
A.Critical.B.Positive.C.Doubtful.D.Unclear.
2. What does paragraph 2 mainly talk about?
A.What sports the author’s kids play.B.What the value of sports is.
C.How sports benefit the kids.D.Why the author’s kids continue to play sports.

A.Teenagers don’t have to win every time.B.Winning is the only goal for teen players.
C.Teenagers should work together to succeed.D.Winning is not the most important in sports.
4. What is the best title for the text?
A.Youth Sports Build Better AdultsB.Teenagers Suffer from Youth Sports
C.Losing Brings More than Winning DoesD.Teenagers Perform Better than Adults in Sports

6 . Physical education, or PE, isn’t required for all high school students. In some schools, it isn’t offered for some different reasons. But should high school students have physical education? The answer is certainly “yes”.

Today many people don’t do sports. But as is known to all, doing sports is very important for an adult. Teaching teens the importance of a healthy lifestyle and making fitness plans now can help teens put exercise in the first place as an adult.

High school isn’t that easy. Many students are under a lot of stress. Stress can be harmful to a student’s study and life. Doing sports can help them deal with stress better, helping them live a happier life at school.
