文章大意:本文是说明文。文章主要介绍了如何通过将一些策略应用于日常健身活动中,使锻炼变得有趣而不枯燥。

1 . Taking exercise can be boring. The good news is that there are some tips which we can apply to our everyday fitness routines

•Have an objective.

When we’re playing a game, there’s always an objective. It helps us focus on the task at hand and motivates us to keep playing until we win the game. Exercise should be no different. Create a clear fitness goal.     1    .

•Add an element of whimsy (奇思妙想)

Some people love video games because there’s a lot of unexpectedness and surprise.     2    . Take photos of at least 5 different flowers on a neighborhood walk. Ride a bike from one friend’s house to another.

    3

In a study, a team of researchers challenged 602 overweight workers from a single company to take part in a step-tracking challenge. The group asked to compete against other workers ended up walking more steps than any other groups in the study. If we’re seeking a similar motivation, look into fitness programs that encourage friendly competition.

•Team up with others.

4    . In that same study, another group of workers was asked to divide into teams of three. Each day, one member of the group was selected to represent the entire team with his/her individual step count of the day. This approach encouraged each member of the group to try to achieve the day’s step goal.     5    . We can try to be energetic by working towards an exercise goal together with other people.

A.Compete against others.
B.Aim to walk 10,000 steps a day, for example.
C.Play against a friend to get competitive.
D.No one wanted to let their team members down.
E.And there are plenty of digital tools that can help with this.
F.We can copy these features into our own fitness game designs.
G.Getting a group to work together is also an effective way.

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。主要介绍了阴阳瑜伽。阴阳瑜伽是一种高能运动的结合,它能增强能量,增强力量,提高耐力。

2 . In an ideal world, we would be able to devote as much time to sports as we feel we need. But in reality, with growing demands in both work and family, we can only jump at the chance for our physical exercise when we can. Making the most of that time to practice Yin Yang yoga, which mixes the dynamic and slow-paced elements of yoga, helps keep you active and relaxed.

Yin and Yang are the Taoist concepts representing a balance of opposite forces which are also interconnected. Yin is inactive, cooling, and negative, associated with the female force. Yang is active, warming, and positive, associated with action and movement. They are complementary to one another, as one cannot exist without the other.

Yin Yang yoga is a combination of high-energy movement which builds energy, increases strength and promotes stamina (耐力), followed by the more restful practice of Yin to give us a deeper stretch (拉伸) and calm the nervous system.

If you have a busy and active life you may feel more in Yang, so taking some cooler, slower Yin yoga practice into your routine may help you feel calmer and more balanced.

If you are practicing for an hour, divide the time in half, Warm up with sun salutations (拜日式瑜伽), continue into a dynamic flow and then move on to some standing postures. After half an hour your heart will be pumping, muscles tighten up and you are hopefully feeling energetic, but ready for a rest. Then pick five Yin postures to hold for 3-5 minutes, or even longer if you are enjoying them!

As ever with yoga, if you are a beginner or have health issues, always attend a class with a trained instructor first to guide you safely through the yoga practice and avoid injury.

1. What can be inferred from paragraph 1?
A.Most of our sports time should be spent on Yin Yang yoga.
B.We’d better devote as much time to physical exercise as we can.
C.Busy schedule makes it impossible for us to do any form of sports.
D.Yin Yang yoga can be a choice of physical exercise when time is tight.
2. What does the underlined word “complementary” in the second paragraph probably mean?
A.Independent from one another.
B.Competitive against one another.
C.Similar to each other but unable to work together as a whole.
D.Different from each other but together making a good combination.
3. Which of the following might be the benefit of Yin postures?
A.Relaxing muscles.B.Building stamina.
C.Strengthening the body.D.Quickening the heartbeat.
4. What suggestion does the writer give in the last two paragraphs?
A.Hold each Yin posture for longer than 5 minutes.
B.Do not practice yoga when you are not in good health.
C.Start your yoga practice under the guidance of a trainer.
D.Spare half an hour for five Yin postures in every yoga practice.

6 . Instead of working overtime in hopes of getting a pay rise, maybe you should go to the gym, as it could make you just as happy as that extra money.

An interesting new study shows people who are physically active have a greater sense of well-being (幸福) than those who are inactive, and that active people feel as good as inactive people who earn $25,000 more per year.

Researchers from Oxford and Yale Universities used data collected from 1.2 million Americans. They were asked, “How many times have you felt mentally unwell in the past 30 days, for example because of stress, depression, or emotional problems?” They were also asked about their exercise habits, choosing from 75 different physical activities, including mowing the lawn, doing housework, running, weightlifting, and cycling.

The researchers found that people who exercised often felt had for an average of 35 days per year while inactive people felt bad for an additional 18 days. All exercise types had a good influence. Social physical activities, for example team sports, were considered to have a better influence although cycling ranked highly.

However, it is possible to get too much exercise. 文章大意:这是一篇记叙文。主要讲述了作者从小热爱体育,并且在父亲的指导和培训下第一次尝到了运动胜利的滋味。于是作者开始参与各种体育运动,并把这种对体育的热爱持续到了成年。

7 . The first time I realized that I had a love for sports competitions was during the Field Day in elementary school. Small for my age, and more of a bookworm than a sports lover, I had suffered that special humiliation of being picked last for various gym teams. The Field Day, which focused on individual skills, was different. In the Softball Throw event, I got my first taste of sporting victory. Credit goes to the example of my first coach, my father. He lifted weights every morning at home. He bought us all baseball gloves and hats, and in the warm months, we spent hours playing catch.

Once I got to sixth grade and switched to private school, our entire student body was assigned to either the Red or the White team. Throughout the year, we competed against each other in various games and exercises for points. I eventually became president of The Committee of Games. I also played on the field hockey team and the basketball team. And at home, playing tennis, skating, skiing and biking were simply normal things we did. During the break time, magazines were also quite popular for us teens. These regularly featured articles on physical exercise. Somehow, my college roommate and I took up the habit of completing Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) exercises every day, a practice that continued into my marriage, when we had no spare money to use to join a gym.

So, though it shocks some of our friends, that early foundation continued in adulthood into a sports and fitness focus, considered important even on vacation. I still love reading and the arts, too. As far as I’m concerned, life is the richest with my feet in both worlds.

1. What does the underlined word “humiliation” mean in Paragraph 1?
A.Stress.B.Threat.C.Shame.D.Glory.
2. According to the author, what contributes to her victory in the Softball Throw event?
A.Her confidence in her sports skills.B.The efforts she put into exercising.
C.Her advanced sports gloves and hats.D.The strong influence of her father.
3. What happened after the author stepped into adulthood?
A.She changed the focus into reading.B.She stuck to working out.
C.She regularly exercised on weekends.D.She joined Royal Canadian Air Force.
4. What is the author’s purpose in writing the text?
A.To express her love for sports.B.To show her father’s guidance on sports.
C.To stress the advantages of physical exercise.D.To share her childhood memories about sports.

8 . Creative ways to change your workouts

Most people know working out is good for your health, both physical and mental.     1     Sure, you may get excited about training for a 5 K or 10 K, but once the race is over, only to become tired of it after a few weeks.

Create a word or image with your exercise route

Runners often map routes through city streets that create a word or image, then use a GPS device to “draw” it as they run.     2     Not sure what image or message to create? You can always follow artistic routes others have created and shared in the apps. Some are impressively complex and may take several excursions to complete. But that’s part of the fun.

Join a free fitness group

Exercising can be more fun with others, so look for group fitness opportunities. Many communities offer free exercise opportunities. Fitness in the Park is a summer-long activity that has been operating in New York state for a decade. Everyone is welcome to head to one of 18 different parks.     3     “The best part is grabbing a partner that you don’t know, or getting together with one that you do,” Frion said. “It’s always so much fun.”

    4

Sure, you can run a 5 K. But why not try orienteering (定向越野赛)? This timed navigational sport requires you to use detailed maps to find orange-and-white flags that are hidden in parks or remote areas. Races involve difficult running routes

Dance

Whether you take a class or practice at home, dancing is a great way to get your body moving. Dancing doesn’t seem like exercise to a lot of people, which is why it’s always a popular choice.     5     “The workout allows for a creative aspect and meditation at the same time,” she said. “Many people come because it is an opportunity to try something different, as well as to dance in a nonjudgmental space.”

B.Sign up for a new-to-you event.
C.Participants have ranged in age from about 10 to over 70.

10 . Various sports attract fans for different reasons: Spectator sports draw even more fans who just love to watch. Here are some of the most beloved sports worldwide.

Hockey-2 billion fans

Hockey, both on ice and on a field, wins a following of two billion enthusiastic fans worldwide.
