Hi, Liam!

I'm really happy to be your pen friend. I'm 14 years old and I live in Calgary, Canada. I have two little brothers, Brian and Sam. I'm the only girl.

I'm active in sports and I'm always trying something interesting. I like playing hockey (曲棍球) in winter. It's fun! But summer is my favorite time of the year. I love skateboarding and rock climbing (滑滑板和攀岩) in summer.

Many girls think skateboarding is difficult, but it is easy and fun for me. I often skateboard in the park after school. I'm good at jumping with the skateboard!

Rock climbing is also really fun. I usually climb with my dad on the weekend. We can't do it on real mountains often because we live in the city. We often do indoor rock climbing.

So that's me-Little Miss Active! My friends like to call me that. I like the name. What sports do you like? Please write back soon.

Bye for now

Anne

4 . There are a lot of benefits to staying physically fit. You’ll have more energy, you’ll look great, and you’ll notice improvements in your health.     1     However, if you focus on exercise, you can make a lot of healthy physical changes.

Find the time. Exercise is one of the most important aspects in staying (or becoming) fit and healthy.     2     Try scheduling your exercise the same way that you schedule other appointments and work. You’ll be more likely to stick to it if it’s on the calendar (日历).

3     You will see the most benefits from exercise if you do it regularly. One good way to make you stick to it is to pick a form of exercise that you enjoy. For example, if you like swimming, make it a point to swim twice a week.

Go outdoors. It is really good to work out at a gym—without air conditioning and televisions. But scientists report that exercising outdoors, at least part of the time, can have more benefits.     4

Be social. If you join other people in your exercise routine, you’ll see a positive influence in your results.     5     If you schedule an activity with a friend, you are less likely to cancel than if you were only cancelling on yourself.

A.Make it a habit.
B.Enjoy your exercise.
C.Unfortunately, it’s not always easy to stay in great shape.
D.In a word, it is absolutely good for you to stay physically fit.
E.Finding a workout partner can help you to stick to your exercise.

Schoolwork can be stressful sometimes,     1     (especial) in the final year of high school. Daily matters can pile up and affect our health. Therefore,     2     (find) a good way to deal with pressure is important. I just discovered my new favorite method , the trampoline (蹦床)!

The door opens and you are     3     (amaze) to see people jumping and flying around like superheroes. The trampoline park is full of colorful inflatables (充气气垫). For     4     (begin), it is the best area to start.

There     8     (be) some other bouncing activities. My favorite one was the basketball dunking area. It included a full-height basketball hoop above runway trampolines. With the power of bouncing, I could dunk like     9     NBA superstar. It was not only relaxing, but also fun!

It’s     1     long-term question for teachers:     2     do you get children who hate physical activity to take part in PE lessons? A Northampton primary school believes it has the answer.    3    (Design) to make the least active pupils take an interest in their fitness, a program     4    (introduce) at Lings Primary School recently. And not only have the pupils developed an interest in activities ranging from football to ballroom dancing, according to the school, but their school work has also improved     5    (significant).

The students also turn up on time—Ling now has the best     6    (attend) record in the country at 98 percent.   The turnaround had been achieved by simply making PE fun. Instead of     7    (climb) wall bars and running on the spot, the pupils practice exercises such as moving like animals. One routine involves crawling around the floor like a bear and moving around like gorillas. In     8    , the children try to maintain their balance on the boards made of rubber, all of which stretch their muscles and improve fitness.

Baroness Campbell, who chairs the Youth Sport Trust, which designed the program, said, “We want     9    (show)young people that physical activity is fun and a great way to learn skills which will stay with them     10     life.”

Group exercise is one of the most effective ways to improve physical fitness and sustain(保持)a healthy lifestyle. Group exercise is challenging, yet fun and empowering! Of course everyone knows that exercise is good for the body. However, studies have shown that when exercise is performed in groups, it’s not only great for improving physical health but for psychological health. It’s an opportunity to be social, release endorphins(内啡肽), and improve your strength. Additionally, group exercise creates a community feel and the shared common goal motivates participants to work hard. The instrumental support of taking on a fitness journey with others proves more effective than going to the gym alone.

Another beneficial aspect of group exercise is the informational support participants receive from the instructor. Many people fear the gym because they feel lost and don’t want to embarrass themselves. If you feel you can relate, then group training is an even better option for you. It’s a great opportunity to learn more about fitness through the clear instruction and supervision of a fitness instructor.

If you’re tired of wandering around the gym wasting time and becoming bored, you can attend an upbeat group fitness class that’ll keep your workout on track. Don’t let fitness frighten you!

If you’re serious about wanting to live a healthy lifestyle, it’s extremely important to surround yourself with people who’ll provide you with the proper emotional support. Surround yourself with people who uplift, encourage and understand you! Make fitness even more fun by trying something new or any group fitness class, with a friend. Plan to go for a jog together. Then try a fun healthy restaurant or fresh juice bar! Fitness can be both fun and social! Surrounding yourself with people who’ll provide you with respect support can be very beneficial while working towards reaching health and fitness goals. First, decide to do it for yourself and work towards staying positive. Then make sure the people you surround yourself with are supportive. Don’t let negativity ruin your motivation.

9 . Race walking shares many fitness benefits with running, research shows, while most likely contributing to fewer injuries. It does, however, have its own problem.

Race walkers are conditioned athletes. The longest track and field event at the Summer Olympics is the 50-kilometer race walk, which is about five miles longer than the marathon. But the sport’s rules require that a race walker’s knees stay straight through most of the leg swing and one foot remain in contact (接触) with the ground at all times. It’s this strange form that makes race walking such an attractive activity, however, says Jaclyn Norberg, an assistant professor of exercise science at Salem State University in Salem, Mass.

Like running, race walking is physically demanding, she says, According to most calculations, race walkers moving at a pace of six miles per hour would burn about 800 calories(卡路里) per hour, which is approximately twice as many as they would burn walking, although fewer than running, which would probably burn about 1,000 or more calories per hour.

However, race walking does not pound the body as much as running does, Dr. Norberg says. According to her research, runners hit the ground with as much as four times their body weight per step, while race walkers, who do not leave the ground, create only about 1.4 times their body weight with each step.

As a result, she says, some of the injuries associated with running, such as runner’s knee, are uncommon among race walkers. But the sport’s strange form does place considerable stress on the ankles and hips, so people with a history of such injuries might want to be cautious in adopting the sport. In fact, anyone wishing to try race walking should probably first consult a coach or experienced racer to learn proper technique, she says. It takes some practice.

B.It’s less challenging physically.

A.Getting experts’ opinions.
B.Having a medical checkup.
C.Hiring an experienced coach.
D.Doing regular exercises.
4. Which word best describes the author’s attitude to race walking?
A.Skeptical.B.Objective.
