2 . Lord Robert Winston was sitting on a train, when he found himself becoming steadily angry. Winston is normally a fairly amiable man. What was driving him slowly insane was the particular behavior of another passenger. Ignoring the child with her, the woman had picked up her phone and begun what would become a very loud conversation filled with boring facts.
Winston did try to ignore it,but there is something fundamentally un-ignorable about a loud, one-sided conversation. It was then that Lord Winston made a mistake. He began to tweet(网上发 about the woman. He took photos of her and sent them out to his more than 40,000 followers.
When the train had finally arrived at its destination, Winston quickly ran off. He had had enough of what he described as her "rudeness."But the woman faced an unusual surprise. The press had picked up on Winston's tweets. They were waiting for her on the platform. When they excitedly showed her Winston's messages, the woman's face fell, She also suddenly found herself using just one word to describe Winston's actions:"rude".
We find ourselves living at a time of incredible rudeness. Social media has taught the world that it needs to have an opinion, on everything,at all times. Reality television has taught us to celebrate meanness(不友好),so long as that meanness is delivered as “honesty.”So what can we do about the rising tide of rudeness?
Winston shone a spotlight on that woman's behaviors, but he did not confront it, and he did not stop it. Instead, that spotlight was shone weakly from afar, shaming her by taking an almost rudimentary(原始的)form of revenge Often, the trick to handling rudeness is far more elegant, and can be done with the gentle delivery of a sentence as simple as “just stop."
When we see it happen in a store, we must step up and say,"Just stop."If it happens to a colleague,we must point t out Because once a rude pt 12 )s had the looking glass held up to them and can see their actions through the eyes of others, they are far more likely to end that behavior themselves.

3 . What makes one a great person? The legendary volleyball coach Lang Ping gave the answer in the recent documentary The Iron Hammer, titled after her nickname for her powerful strikes.
The documentary features Lang' s inspiring journey from her gold medal victory as a volleyball player in the 1984 Olympics to her unparalleled(无可比拟的)career as a successful coach for both Team USA from 2005 to 2008 and China since 2013.She led the US to a silver medal finish and China to a gold medal triumph in the 2008 and 2016 Olympic Games, making her the first person to win Olympic volleyball gold as a player and coach.
Lang Ping revealed the secret to such remarkable achievements in the documentary. “I believe volleyball was my destiny," she said.
But glory and challenges go hand in hand. Troubled by severe injuries to her cervical vertebra(颈椎),back, waist and knees, caused by intense exercise and hard work, the 60-year-old has undergone more than 10 surgeries. “No parts of my body function well," she joked.
But illness is certainly not the only difficulty Lang has faced throughout her career. In 2005, she struggled with balancing raising her daughter Lydia Bai Lang, who lived in the US, and her coaching career, according to China Sports Daily. She eventually decided to work for USA Volleyball that year and this decision aroused a lot of negative comments back in China.
“I'm proud of being Chinese.” Lang responded in an interview.Later, she returned to head the Chinese women 's volleyball team in 2013, leading the team successfully defending its World Cup crown with a perfect record of 11 straight wins last year.

5 . A British friend told me he couldn’t understand why Chinese people love eating sunflower seeds(嗑瓜子)as a snack so much. “I’ve met a lot of older Chinese and many have a crack in their front teeth, I believe that’s from cracking the seeds,” he said.
I had never noticed the habit, but once he mentioned it, I suddenly became more aware. I realized that whenever I’m watching TV or typing a report, I always start mindlessly cracking sunflower seeds. My friend doesn’t like sunflower seeds, and, to him, it seems unnecessary to work so much just to get one small seed.
When we were young, the whole family would usually get together for Chinese New Year. Then, we all lived close to one another, usually in a small city, and sometimes even neighbors would go door-to-door on Chinese New Year’s Eve to check out what every household was making.
I remember my parents would be in the kitchen cooking. Out in the living room, a large table would already be laid out, complete with fancy tablecloth, ready-made dumpling fillings, and dishes full of candy, fruits and sunflower seeds. Some of the dishes were to be offered to our ancestors later, while others were for neighbors and children to eat before the evening feast. I must have learned how to crack sunflower seeds back then.
I don’t think it’s right to criticize one’s choice in food or eating habits, no matter how strange they may seem.
It’s not only in China. When I went abroad, I found people had all sorts of strange habits when it came to food. In Denmark, they put salted red fish on bread and eat it for dinner, no matter how much it ruins your breath. They think it’s。delicacy(美味佳肴), and it’s connected to their certain culture. I think it’s a wonderful tradition.

7 . For me, concerts have always been one of the best ways to spend a few dollars. Concerts have been promoted through flyers or posters, which over the years have become more and more elaborate (精心制作的).
Since the time of Bill Graham, who supported public access to live music in San Francisco in the 1960s, concert posters have become an incredible way for young art enthusiasts to connect with the visual artists that create the imagery for the bands they love.
That’s exactly what happened to me. I started reading OMGPosters. command I discovered artists who were making gig posters and art prints from A to Z. They’d draw it, pull the screens, and sell the prints on their own websites, because the Internet continues to encourage artists to create and art lovers to collect their works.
I started collecting works by artists like Jermaine Rogers? Mexican Chocolate Design, Dan Grzeca, Emek, J ay Ryan and Justin Santora. When you can purchase a limited edition piece of art for as low as $ 20,the world of art collecting opens up even to art enthusiasts who don’t have much money.
I have always taken a grass-roots approach to life and work, so it makes sense that I would be motivated by artists whose work wasn’t being shown in museums or appearing on advertising for major brands. Although some of those lines have blurred (变得模糊不清)over the last 10 years, bringing more and more related and accessible work into respected galleries in New York and Los Angeles and being able to buy art prints directly from the artists who made them are major developments in the world of art.
