7 . I loved books from a very young age, and they opened my mind to all kinds of possibilities. I journeyed with Meg Murry to save her family; I learned about friendship and sacrifice (牺牲) from Charlotte’s Web. Books helped me understand what it was like to walk in someone else’s shoes; they helped me dream about imaginary worlds.
Despite reading all kinds of stories, I never read one about someone like me. I didn’t realize what I was missing until as an adult, I finally read a story that reflected some of my personal experiences. That book was The Namesake. This was world-changing for me. It made me recognize how powerful it is to see yourself in a book, and it made me realize that every person — especially every young person — deserves to feel this way.
While my children were growing up, we read all kinds of books together, and the range of voices in children’s literature was wider ... but still not wide enough.
When I started writing, it took me a while to stop writing about “typical” Americans and start writing about people who shared my own background. I still hadn’t truly realized that others might be interested in reading stories about people like me — that our stories are worthy of being told. Once I started writing these kinds of stories, I couldn’t stop.
I’m honored to join so many authors from diverse backgrounds who are writing books for young people today. We use our lived experiences and our imaginations to bring new stories to light — stories that reflect the incredible world in which we live.
Looking forward, I hope to see an even greater range of stories in children’s literature. To prepare to be a citizen in our diverse world, every child needs to gain insight into people who are not exactly like them. And I hope that every child gets to experience the thrill of seeing themselves in a book so they know they are understood, appreciated, and loved, so they recognize that they can be the heroes of their own stories.

8 . Travel Wifi (formerly TEP Wireless) is a global company with a simple mission: to keep you connected to the Internet while traveling. They do this by providing wifi hotspot devices (for rent or purchase) that can be used on 6 different continents.
About the wifi devices
The Pocket Travel Wi devices are the size and shape of a small smartphone. The standard Hotspot Rental and The Sapphire 2 (for purchase) share a similar design with one but on and one mini-USB charging port. However, it’s important to note that these devices are not waterproof. When fully charged, they should last around 12 hours with fairly regular wifi use. Additionally, the Sapphire 2 model features indicator lights displaying signal strength and battery life.
Renting vs. Buying the travel wifi device
The cost of purchasing a travel wifi device is $89-$109, and then you pay on top of that for data packages ($29.9 for 20 GB in a month). Most frequent travelers buy their own device for convenience
The rental price is based on the total number of days that you’ll keep the device and how much data you want to use each day. Daily rents range from $6.9 for 1GB, $129 for 2GB to $16.9 for 3GB. Week pass ($45.9) with no data limit is also a good choice for short-term travelers.
