1 . Two Michigan boys are being praised as heroes for saving another boy from drowning in a swimming pool. Noah Roche, 12, and his brother Weston Woods, 8, were at an apartment swimming pool when they ______ 7-year-old Griffin Emerson.

Griffin had been playing in the shallow end of the pool in his water wings (浮水圈) but then decided to ______ them and start to drift (漂流) over toward the pool’s ______ end. “I just wanted to ______ myself. Like, yeah, I can actually swim.” Griffin said.

The boys’ mother, Sylese Roche, called 911, telling the ______ that Griffin wasn’t breathing and was receiving CPR (心肺复苏). “Griffin’s mom ran over to him and instantly ______ CPR,” Roche said.

Eventually, Griffin started to breathe again and his mother can be seen in the surveillance video patting his ______ as he spits out water. “I was ______ that I was going to drown. It felt all strange. I ______ some water and that’s it,” Griffin said afterward. Within 36 hours of the ______, Griffin made a full recovery and was released.

3 . My friend James did some first-aid training last week to learn the fundamentals of the CPR. And he asked if I’d ever done the same.

“Yes,” I said, “…and no.”

Because, yes, I’ve attended several resuscitation (复苏) sessions over the years.     1     In fact, despite being shown all the key information at various points in my career, I don’t think I can remember any of it now.

What’s the problem? Every time I’ve had this type of training, it’s been a perfectly good opportunity to learn: an important topic, taught well, in a focused environment, with plenty to see, hear and do. I’ve always taken it seriously, too, and been focused. And I’ve always come away with a wealth of information.     2    

Here’s what I should have done — and what you can do now — to make sure any training doesn’t go to waste.

•     3     You might be surprised to find that you’ve got some foundations of knowledge to build on. Pre-testing sparks your curiosity and puts you in a frame of mind to remember.

• Challenge your recall later.     4     If it’s hard to remember, but just about possible with effort, then that’s perfect. You need that little bit of struggle to start embedding (把……嵌入) information in your brain.

• Keep coming back. Put a note in your diary to test yourself again in a week, then ten days after that, then a month on…leaving longer gaps between checks.     5    

Talking to James has inspired me to book myself onto yet another CPR course. But this time I’m determined to do it right. Remember that it’s the next day when the real training begins.

5 . A cinema-goer who suffered a heart attack while watching the latest Bond movie was saved by fellow film fans who performed CPR on him. The film’s title? No Time to Die.

81-year-old Malcolm Clarke had been revisiting childhood haunts(常去之处) in and around Chesterfield where he grew up as a_________for his birthdays. Then he had gone to_________the new Bond film with his wife on Saturday night to make the latest_________more impressive.

_________, Malcolm had a sudden heart attack at the Odeon cinema in Sheffield, South Yorkshire while watching the new film._________of the audience, believed to have included a doctor and a nurse,_________came to Malcolm’s_________and helped keep him alive. Thankfully, their_________were successful and the ambulance soon_________and took Malcolm to Northern General Hospital. And now Malcolm is in a(n)__________condition.

Malcolm’s son-in-law, Andrew Wileman, said, “Four__________people among the audience worked on him for about 15 minutes because he had__________consciousness(意识). The ‘rescue team’,__________two ladies and two gentlemen, just__________shortly after they did the good deed. There is no__________that they saved Malcolm’s life in the cinema.”
