文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了研究表明让极度焦虑的考生在考试前写下他们的担忧可以提高他们在考试中的表现。

1 . Some students get so nervous before a test. They do poorly even if they know the material. Sian Beilock, a professor at the University of Chicago in Illinois, has studied these highly anxious test-takers. The students start worrying about the results. And when they worry, it actually uses up attention and memory resources (资源).

Professor Beilock and another researcher, Gerardo Ramirez, have developed a possible solution. Just before an exam, highly anxious test-takers spend ten minutes writing about their worries about the test.

The researchers tested the idea on a group of twenty anxious college students. They gave them two short maths tests. After the first one, they asked the students to either sit quietly or write about their feelings about the upcoming second test.

Professor Beilock says those who sat quietly scored an average of 12% worse on the second test. But the students who had written about their fears improved their performance by an average of 5%. Next, the researchers used younger students in a biology class. They told them before final exams either to write about their feelings or to think about things unrelated to the test. Professor Beilock says highly anxious students who did the writing got an average grade of B+, compared to a B- for those who did not.

“What we showed is that for students who are highly test-anxious, who’d done our writing intervention (干预), all of a sudden there was no relationship between test anxiety and performance. They were performing just as well as their classmates who don’t normally get nervous in these tests.”

But what if students do not have a chance to write about their fears immediately before an exam? Professor Beilock says students can try it themselves at home or in the library and still improve their performance.

1. What may the students start worrying about before an exam?
A.Whether they can pass the exams.
B.What other students do during the test.
C.Whether they have remembered the materials.
D.What kind of problems they will meet on the test paper.
2. What is the solution developed by the two researchers?
A.Asking the students to think nothing of the test.
B.Asking the students to focus on the test.
C.Asking the students to sit quietly before the test.
D.Asking the students to write about their worries before the test.
3. According to Professor Beilock, those who thought about things unrelated to the test_____.
A.became less nervous before the test.
B.were better at controlling their feelings.
C.did worse than those who wrote about their feelings.
D.did better than those who took two tests.
4. What can be learned from the last paragraph?
A.Writing about worries before an exam can work a bit.
B.Studying in the library can improve students’ performance.
C.Students can only write about worries right before an exam.
D.It doesn’t matter where to write about worries before an exam.

文章大意:这是一篇新闻报道。文章报道了许多二战老兵回到诺曼底,参加诺曼底登陆78周年纪念活动这一事件。

4 . On June 6, World War II veterans (老兵) and other visitors gathered in Normandy for the 78th D-Day anniversary (周年纪念日) in memory of soldiers who gave up their lives to bring peace and freedom to French people. Several thousand people joined a ceremony at the American Cemetery overlooking Omaha Beach in the French town of Colleville-sur-Mer.

US Air Force planes flew over the American Cemetery during the ceremony, in the presence of Army General Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. It is the final resting place of 9,386 soldiers who died fighting on D-Day and in the operations that followed.

Ray Wallace, then 97, a former paratrooper, was among the World War II veterans attending the ceremony in the French town of Colleville-sur-Mer. According to him, on D-Day, his plane was hit and caught fire forcing him to jump earlier than expected. He landed 20 miles away from the town of Sainte-Mère-Église, the first French village to be liberated from Nazi occupation. Less than a month later, he was caught by the Germans. He was finally liberated after 10 months and returned to the U. S. Still, Wallace thought he was “lucky”. “I remember the good friends that I lost there. So, it’s a little emotional,” he said, with tears in his eyes. “I guess you can say I’m proud of what I did but I didn’t do that much.”

On D-Day, a large number of soldiers landed on the beaches, carried by 7,000 boats. On that single day, 4,414 soldiers lost their lives, 2,501 of whom were Americans. More than 5,000 were wounded. On the German side, several thousand were killed or wounded.

Wallace, who was using a wheelchair, was among about 20 World War II veterans who opened the parade (游行) of military vehicles on the eve of the D-Day anniversary in Sainte-Mère-Église with cheers from thousands of people, in a joyful atmosphere. He did not hide his pleasure, happily waving to the crowd as parents explained the stories of World War II heroes to their children. Many history lovers, wearing military clothes from the period, also came to the stage and celebrated the event.

A.His sadness at losing partners in war.
B.His doubt about the result of the war.

3. Which words can best describe the atmosphere of the parade before the D-Day anniversary?

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了非物质文化遗产竹林漂流的历史和传承。

7 . People perform graceful moves, all while standing on a bamboo strip in the river. You may think it’s a scene from an art movie, but actually it is a form of intangible cultural heritage: bamboo drifting(独竹漂).

Bamboo drifting dated back to over 2,000 years ago in the Chishui River area of Guizhou. During the Qin Dynasty, the Bozhou district of Zunyi city was known for its high-quality nanmu. It was in great demand by the royal court more than 2,000 kilometers to the north. With no transportation along the Chishui River, people had to stand on one log(原木)to drift down the river. Later, local people began to compete along the way and the game of wood drifting was born. In the Qing Dynasty, wood drifting became bamboo drifting because of bamboo’s lower price.

Now, communities in Guizhou hold bamboo drifting competitions every year during Dragon Boat Festival. Due to the great strength and balance it takes for one to get the hang of this act, bamboo drifting was included in the national intangible cultural heritage list.

Yang Liu,24,is an inheritor(继承人) of bamboo drifting.Yang said the most challenging part of bamboo drifting was keeping one’s balance. “I fell in the water several times when I was practising,” she said.

But the love for the ancient skill keeps Yang going. In the past 17 years, she has drifted all year round, in winter cold and summer heat.

Yang also produces new ideas when spreading the culture of bamboo drifting. For example, she connects dance with bamboo drifting to make it more graceful and wears hanfu when performing, creating a beautiful feel. In 2020, Yang registered on social media platforms and posted her videos. “I want to spread it to other countries so that more people around the world will like Chinese culture,” she told China Daily.

1. Why did bamboo drifting replace wood drifting?
A.The bamboo was cheaper.B.The bamboo was more beautiful.
C.The bamboo was more convenient.D.The bamboo was much easier to control.
2. What does the underlined phrase “get the hang of” in paragraph 3 mean?
A.Prepare.B.Change.C.Master.D.Improve.
3. What is the most difficult for bamboo drifting in Yang Liu’s opinion?
A.Designing moves.B.Transporting goods.
C.Choosing bamboos.D.Keeping balance.
4. What can we infer about Yang Liu?
A.She inherits bamboo drifting creatively.
B.She learned bamboo drifting very easily.
C.She has become the leader of bamboo drifting.
D.She began learning bamboo drifting at 17.

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了人字拖对人体有害,应该限制使用。

8 . Wearing flip-flops (平底人字拖鞋) was once considered bad fashion manners. And flip-flops are considered only for beach goers or a short, relaxing walk to the mailbox on a hot summer day.     1    . In fact, flip-flops have become so popular that many major designers are designing them for people.

However, wearing flip-flops could be bad for our bodies and the scientific studies are there to back it up. As a rule, flip-lops are not particularly supportive shoes even if they are comfortable and cool to wear. There is actually no arch support to flip-flops. By nature of design, flip-flops aren’t exactly fit for the foot — they don’t stay on well. In order to walk without losing a shoe, people unconsciously change their ways of walking.     2

Some experts also warn of short-term effects. Wearing flip-flops instead of more appropriate footwear for certain activities, especially when too much walking is involved, can lead to injured feet and ankles.     3     This makes it more likely to slip, trip, fall, and later twist an ankle.

4     For activities that require much walking or activity, such as shopping or gardening, consider wearing more appropriate shoes. When shopping for flip-flops, avoid the poorly made ones that can easily twist in your hands. Instead choose shoes that have a stronger, thicker, well-made sole.     5     Though less fashionable, these flip-flops offer some support and stability beyond the traditional ones.

A.Most flip-flops lack stability.
B.The right pair of flip-flops don’t have to be limited to sunny beach days.
C.But flip-flops don’t have to be limited to sunny beach days.
D.There are also a few varieties designed with foot health in mind.
E.Over a long time, wearing them too much could lead to foot, leg and back pain.
F.However, in recent years, these shoes have become much more fashion-forward.
G.Without having to give up wearing flip-flops entirely, experts recommend limiting their use.
