5 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。续写的词数应为150左右。

It was a small town with nice landscapes that attracted a lot of rich people to live in. Ming was also attracted by the scenic spots of the town. But he had little money, so he rented a cheap house after he arrived. But what drew his attention most here was those wealthy people. So he took up a job to sell cell phones. But his cell phones were not good in quality.

One day, Ming’s pocket was empty again and wanted to earn money. Luckily, there was still a phone in his pocket to sell. Soon enough, he spotted a target—a seemingly wealthy middle-aged man in an old jacket. Ming came up to him and smiled politely, saying, “Hey, friend...” But the man was very cautious and asked, “What’s up?”

Ming said to him   immediately, “Friend, I have a phone. I bought it at 5,000 yuan. But now I could sell it to you at only 3,000 yuan.” The man seemed uninterested in his phone and wanted to go away. Ming stopped him and said, “What about 2,000 yuan?” the man shouted at him, “What do you want to do with me?”

Ming immediately put up a poor face and hugged the man’s legs, crying to him, “Oh, my dear friend! Only 1,000 yuan, is it OK?” Ming began pouring out his “sad story” as he was crying. The man, after seeing this, felt a little bit moved and put his hands into his pocket. Then he took out 1,000 yuan to Ming and took the phone away.

After earning 1,000 yuan, Ming felt happy. As he felt hungry, he went to a small restaurant to have lunch. Ming ordered several dishes and handed over a note of 100 yuan to the cashier. The cashier stared at the banknote (钞票) for quite a while, as if checking if it was a fake note (假币), and then said to Ming, “Sorry, I could not find the change for you for the moment. Please wait a minute.” Then he went away. Staying in the restaurant without anything to do, Ming sat at a table and started to watch TV. After all, his cheap-rented house had no TV.

文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了世界上第一只克隆的野生动物狼的相关情况,以及其带来的影响。

6 . A Beijing-based gene firm on Monday announced the debut (首次亮相) of the world’s first, cloned wild article wolf via video. 100 days after its birth in a Beijing lab. Experts said its birth pioneers the breeding of more rare and endangered animals through cloning technology.

“To save the endangered animal, we started the research cooperation with Harbin Polarland on cloning the arctic wolf in 2020. After two years of painstaking efforts, the arctic wolf was cloned successfully. It is the first case of its kind in the world,” Mi Jidong, the company’s general manager of the Beijing-based Sinogene Biotechnology Co., said at a press conference in Beijing.

Born on June 10, the wolf, named Maya, is in very good health. Its donor cell came from the skin sample of a wild female arctic wolf, which had been introduced from Canada to Harbin Polarland. The cloning of the arctic wolf was accomplished by constructing 137 new embryos (胚胎), followed by the transfer of 85 embryos to the uteri of seven dogs, of which one was born as a healthy wolf-Maya, Zhao noted. The selection of a dog as Maya’s surrogate (代孕) was made because dogs share genetic ancestry with ancient wolves and it’s more likely to succeed through cloning technology, experts said.

He Zhengming, the head of Chinese Experimental Animal Resources Research Institute for Food and Drug Control, said that the cloned animals still have the ability to reproduce if they have intact fertilized eggs. The cloning technology can copy all genetic information for selective breeding, and in this way, it diversifies the population of endangered animals.

From the world’s first mammal clone “Dolly”, cloning technology has provided the possibility to diversify the populations of some species such as cattle, pigs and horses. When endangered species in some places are identified, cloning of cells preserved from freezing technologies could also generate new life, experts said.

However, some raised controversy relating to the cloned arctic wolf. Sun Ouanhui, a scientist from the World Animal Protection organization, insisted that cloning technology has made great progress since its birth, but it is still being perfected and in the exploratory stage of research, and there are many technical and ethical issues that need to be tackled and treated with caution.

1. What is the significance of the first cloned wild arctic wolf’s birth?
A.To produce more endangered species through cloning.
B.To help the scientists win an award.
C.To promote the research cooperation.
D.To increase the profit of wildlife reserves.
2. What can be inferred from Paragraph 3?
A.Maya is the first cloned arctic wolf in the world.
B.Wild arctic wolves are easily available in Harbin Polarland.
C.There is no scientific support for choosing a dog as Maya’s surrogate.
D.Researchers experienced trial and error to achieve the successful birth of Maya.
3. What’s the author’s attitude toward cloning technology?
A.Doubtful.B.Favorable.C.Objective.D.Opposed.
4. Which is the best title of the passage?
A.The Research on the Rare and Endangered Animals
B.The Debut of the World’s 1st Cloned Wild Arctic Wolf
C.The Beginning of the Cloning Technology Application
D.The Conservation of Endangered Wildlife through Cloning Technology

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文,主要讲的是让孩子运动的好处以及父母应该如何让孩子运动。

10 . Children need exercise. Parents often worry that making time for sports or even for just playing games is going to take away from their kids’ study. But actually, this is not true. There have been huge numbers of studies that all show that kids who are physically fit are better in school, get better grades, and have higher intelligence scores than kids who are unfit. And that is probably because during the life, even into old age, there’s a strong connection between a healthy hear and a healthy brain.

The brain is the most important organ that your circulatory (循环的) system has to feed. It takes up a lot of the body’s oxygen and a lot of the body’s energy. And unlike most of your tissues, your brain can’t live very long without blood supply. You cut blood supply off for about five minutes and parts of the brain start dying. So some illnesses that cut off blood flow to the brain in older people are a key cause of   cognitive (认知的) difficulty with age. And even in little kids, being physically fit clearly improves intellectual performance.

The other thing parents should be thinking about is that in childhood your kid needs about 90 minutes a day of active moving around, and parents should really focus, I think, on making sure that that’s fun, first of all. You don’t want to use exercise as punishment. And you also, I think, want to have them doing something that could maybe continue into adulthood. However much your kids like climbing trees, they’re not going to be doing that when they’re 40, not most of us anyway.

And if you give them a sport or a taste for hiking or a taste for yoga, something that grown-ups do, you greatly reduce the chance that they’re going to be one of the large numbers of adults who are not active. Usually that change happens around the age of 13 or so.

1. What is the worry of parents about their children?
A.Their children are not physically fit.
B.Their children wouldn’t like to take up sports.
C.Playing games does harm to their children’s health.
D.Exercise may be bad for their children’s study.
2. Why do some older people have cognitive difficulty?
A.Because there is not enough blood supply for the brain.
B.Because the brain takes up a lot of the body’s oxygen.
C.Because the brain is the most important organ.
D.Because their blood supply for the brain is completely cut off.
3. What can we can learn from the third paragraph ?
A.Parents can use exercise as punishment.
B.Parents should pay attention to kids’ exercise
C.Parents should do more exercise that is fun.
D.Parents can’t allow their kids to climb trees.
4. What does the underlined word “yoga” probably refers to?
A.A helpful book.
B.A famous film
C.A kind of physical exercise.
D.An effective punishment
