1 . Take a class at Dulangkou School, and you’ll see lots of things different from other schools. You can see the desks are not in rows and students sit in groups. They put their desks together so they’re facing each other. How can they see the blackboard? There are three blackboards on the three walls of the classroom!

The school calls the new way of learning “Tuantuanzuo”, meaning sitting in groups. Wei Liying, a Junior 3 teacher, said it was to give students more chance to communicate.

Each group has five or six students, according to Wei, and they play different roles (角色). There is a team leader who takes care of the whole group. There is a “study leader” who makes sure that everyone finishes their homework. And there is a discipline (纪律) leader who makes sure that nobody chats in class.

Wang Lin is a team leader. The 15-year-old said that having to deal with so many things was tiring.

“I just looked after my own business before,” said Wang. “But now I have to think about my five group members.”

But Wang has got used to it and can see the benefits (好处) now.

“ I used to speak too little. But being a team leader means you have to talk a lot. You could even call me an excellent speaker today.”

Zhang Qi, 16, was weak in English. She used to get about 70 in English tests. But in a recent test, Zhang got a grade of more than 80.

“I rarely (很少) asked others when I had problems with my English. But now I can ask the team leader or study leader. They are really helpful.”

7 . A musical, School of Rock, which is played at the Winter Garden Theatre, is based on the 2003 hit movie starring Jack Black and opens on Broadway(百老汇).

“The central message of the story,” the show’s composer, Andrew Lloyd Webber, said recently, “is about the driving force of music.” Lloyd Webber, who is behind such Broadway hits as Phantom of the Opera and Cats, runs a music education foundation. He is allowing schools to license the musical while it’s still on Broadway.

School of Rock tells the story of Dewey Finn, an ambitious rock star played by Alex Brightman. When Finn’s musical career hits a dead end, he gets a job as a teacher. While in the classroom, he encourages his fifth graders to form a rock band.

All of the actors play their own instruments during the performance. “If you say that you can do it, and you work hard enough, then you can do it,” said Evie Dolan, who learned to play bass for the role of Katie.

While the musical is very similar to the movie, lyricist Glenn Slater added new songs, including You’re in the Band and Stick It to the Man.

“I really love You’re in the Band,” said the musical’s director, Laurence Connor, “I love that moment when the audience sees the children pick up their instruments for the first time and really play, and find rock music for the first time.”

Bobby Mackenzie, who plays Tomika, said that the experience of expressing herself through music has been a pleasing one. When asked what advice she has for ambitious musicians, she said, “If it is really what you want to do, go for it. Work as hard as you can.”

9 . I grew up five minutes from Clapham Junction station in south London. Our house backed onto the railway, so the regular sound of passing trains was a sound I found noisy. Clapham Junction was famously busy, but it felt separate from the rest of London, as if its purpose was to carry people away from the capital. I felt I stood on the edge of the city.

During my last year at primary school, I spent every afternoon going across the road with my mum to eat white toast with drinking sugary tea. My mum would argue with the Greek Cypriot owner about politics. They disagreed about everything, but laughed a lot while arguing. Our life seemed uneventful.

But as time passed by, our area changed. The town became modern, and I changed a lot too. I went from a state primary school to a private secondary school. I stopped drinking sugary tea. I cared less about branded skirts but more about books. I spent less time hanging around the common but more travelling to the libraries where I found my interest.

It was then that I discovered Dodie Smith's I Capture the Castle and Elaine Dundy's The Dud Avocado. After that I scanned the shelves of bookshops for some writing. In this way I found so many writers who have influenced me: Barbara Pym, EM Delafield and so on.

Dale Carnegie's How to Win Friends and Influence People wasn't like any other book I'd read. For more than sixty years the rock solid, time-tested advice in this book has carried thousands of now famous people up the ladder of success in their business and personal lives. Now this previously revised and updated bestseller is available in trade paperback for the first .time to help you achieve your maximum potential throughout the next century! I read it as a guide anyway. And in a way it was.

1. How did the author feel about her childhood?
A.Meaningful.B.Unsatisfied.C.Unforgettable.D.Colorful.
2. What happened to the author when she studied in the secondary school?
A.She often felt lonely.B.She usually drank sugary tea.
C.She began to become modern.D.She started to like reading.
3. What does How to Win Friends and Influence People mean to the author?
A.The world.B.A dream.C.The inspiration.D.A plan.
4. What may be the best title for the text?
A.My Colourful LifeB.Reading Changed Me
C.My Hometown Raised MeD.My Learning Experience
