文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了什么是食物过敏、过敏的症状以及如何预防食物过敏。

1 . A food allergy (过敏) is a medical condition that occurs when the body’s protection system perceives certain foods as a threat and responds to them with an allergic reaction.

Symptoms (症状) of a food allergy

1     However, a severe reaction can take up to a few hours following exposure. Symptoms can range from mild to severe. And they may differ each time a specific allergen appears. Symptoms can include: a skin rash or hives, swelling of the face or lips, or feeling lightheaded or dizzy.     2     That can send the body into shock or make it difficult to breathe.

Judging a food allergy

Doctors consider a number of factors when investigating a food allergy. Those include both a patient’s symptoms and family history of allergies. A physical examination may be performed to rule out any other conditions.     3

Treating a food allergy

It may not be possible for a patient to completely avoid foods that induce (导致) an allergic reaction. For minor reactions, you can take some medicine. For severe reactions, however, turn to doctors for help.

    4

The only sure way to prevent an allergic reaction to food is to carefully avoid the allergens. This can be a difficult process. That requires patients to carefully study food labels to ensure the food is safe for them.     5     So it’s necessary to inform family or friends of the food that can cause a food allergy.

A.Avoiding harm from allergy.
B.Preventing an allergic reaction.
C.Not everyone knows what a food allergy is.
D.But many people don’t know the allergens.
E.Other tests can include blood test or oral food challenge.
F.An allergic reaction to food usually occurs within minutes.
G.For some people, certain allergens can bring a severe reaction.

文章大意:本文是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了一种竹制的猫碗,相比塑料碗这种猫碗的特点是环保、使用安全,因此深受猫主人的喜爱。

2 . If you’re in the market for a new food or water dish for your cat, you might want to check out Free the Ocean’s Bamboo Cat Bowls. These are made from bamboo fibers and rice husks(稻壳).

The presence of bamboo—used as a renewable filler in the dish’s composition—is part of what makes it greener. Bamboo, which is technically a grass, grows faster than trees. Not surprisingly, it produces more oxygen and absorbs more carbon dioxide than trees.

Rice husk is a byproduct of rice production that poses a challenge to farmers, due to its resistance to decomposition (分解), digestion, and low nutritional value as animal feed. Its use as a filler provides a purpose for an otherwise useless material and, along with the bamboo, reduces the need for plastic fillers.

While plastic is still needed to make the cat bowl, the rationale behind their increased eco-friendliness is that less actual plastic is required when more natural fillers are used. The total amount of plastic required to make each product is reduced, because the bamboo fibres make up a significant percentage of the overall composite(合成) material.

Plastic cat dishes harbor bacteria even if pet owners clean them regularly, which can put your cat’s health at risk. However, the bamboo cat bowl is BPA-free and will not release harmful chemicals into your pet’s water the way that conventional plastic can. Bamboo is naturally antibacterial. And, of course, you can throw it in the top rack of the dishwasher for easy cleaning.

One customer said, “I prefer these cat food bowls and so do my cats. The cats like the low lip that makes it easy to eat out of and I like the fact that they’re made of bamboo and that purchasing them makes a difference for plastic pollution! Easy to wash in the dishwasher.”

1. What is the purpose of the text?
A.To recommend a new product.
B.To introduce the benefits of bamboos.
C.To raise people’s environmental awareness.
D.To call on people to make good use of bamboos.
2. What does the underlined word “rationale” in paragraph 4 probably mean?
A.Cost.B.Reason.C.Doubt.D.Function.
3. What can we learn about the bamboo cat bowl?
A.It is cheap to buy.B.It is light to carry.
C.It is safe to use.D.It is easy to make.
4. How is paragraph 5 developed?
A.By listing numbers.B.By giving examples.
C.By asking questions.D.By making comparisons.

3 . My mother was a cook. Through her I learned to appreciate how a handful of ingredients could create delicious, nutritious meals on tight budgets. And in our home, nothing was ever wasted, as we shopped for food needs as opposed to wants.

I talk about all this because I’m absolutely shocked by the price of groceries. And, as someone who has been writing about the food industry for decades, and having weathered the economic depression when the price was also high—I have never seen things as bad as they are today.

Just recently, I couldn’t bring myself to purchase three small potatoes for almost $7. I saw cucumbers for $3.99 EACH. Some stores had grapes at a ridiculous $6.99 a pound. Add to that the alarming increase in everyday food, like coffee, milk and dairy, no wonder everyone is feeling the pinch(拮据).

I went shopping on the weekend, and came out with $186 worth of food in three grocery bags. I returned two items immediately. I purchased a liter of milk that had been marked down 50%—but I didn’t catch in time that the cashier forgot to ring in the discount, and charged me full price.

As I just feed my husband and myself, I can afford to purchase more organic proteins, like chicken. But I can also appreciate not every family can afford to do so, which is my major concern.

Can the increase of food prices be slowed down or even stopped? With the increasing consumer demand for foods not in season or readily available, plus people looking for fast convenience, I do believe the answer lies within us: We need to take back control over the foods we eat. Stop listening to all the hype (宣传) that convenience is better than cooking creativity, and just get back to basics.

People need to go back to basics, learn some fundamental kitchen essentials and truly be mindful of cooking practices. Just as an old saying goes, if you give someone a fish, they’ll eat for a day, but if you teach someone to fish, they’ll eat forever.

1. What might be the author?
A.A cook.B.A writer.C.A publisher.D.A businesswoman.
2. Why did the author return two items when shopping?
A.They cost too much.B.She took the items by mistake.
C.The cashier made a mistake.D.She found they were of no use.
3. How does the author feel about the current situation?
A.Puzzled.B.Helpless.C.Angry.D.Worried.
4. What is the author’s advice according to the text?
A.Do more cooking at home.B.Control food consumption.
C.Purchase more organic proteins.D.Learn to fish if you like eating fish.

The half-a-million-acre forest is also one of four managed by the United States Forest Service and is settled deep within the mountains.

The National Forest is also home to three appointed Wilderness Areas and two Wild and Scenic Rivers. When they got to the hospital for the   event, the team members joined forces with engi-neers from   University of Delaware,Toyota employees and and doctors to help a girl named Jaleah.

Using instructions provided on an iPad by GoBabyGo,they put together a plastic battery-oper-ated vehicle-one of 12 that were made at the event-that was bespoke to Jaleah. Her vehicle was a baby blue jeep that had designs from the hit Disney   movie Frozen and was decorated with snowflakes (雪花),butterflies and flowers.

More importantly, the team rerouted the electrical system in the car so that Jaleah only needed to push a large button on the steering wheel to drive the car, giving her the freedom to move. In addition, they helped design special seating structure to keep Jaleah safely   secured.

When they completed the project, Jaleah and her parents’ reactions took the PJ robotics members by surprise.“It was really satisfying,” PJ junior Austin Fett said. “When she was riding it, she was having so much fun. It was a great feeling. ”

While they are looking forward to their future projects and competitions in the FIRST Technology Challenge league, the robotics team will always remember the days they helped Jaleah become a mobile kid.

“We made something that she will love and use forever,” PJ senior Keith Johnson said.

8 . We hope you've finally made your peace with Pluto being downgraded from a planet to an ice dwarf (冰矮星),because we have some more jarring news for you : It seems your teachers may have been wrong about the number of continents on the earth, too.

Earlier this year, scientists published a report in the journal of the Geological Society of America detailing an eighth continent called Zealandia, roughly the size of India and almost completely hid itself under the Pacific Ocean east of Australia. Covering all of New Zealand as well as several nearby islands, Zealandia likely spent the best of its above-water days as part of the supercontinent Gondwana before fragmenting off Australia and Antarctica some 80 million years ago. This lost, underwater continent is just beginning to reveal its secrets, making for one of the most promising scientific discoveries this year.

While researchers have been aware of the 1. 9 million-square-mile mass for two decades, Zealandia has only recently become the object of serious study since the Geological Society paper argued that it fits all the criteria for a proper continent, including a continental crust (地壳)that's distinctly separate from the seabed in terms of elevation, thickness, and geology. A team of 32 scientists from 12 countries just completed their first visit to six dig sites around Zealandia, where they drilled up more than 8,000 feet of sediment cores (沉积物岩心)that will help explain the lost continent's 80-million-year history.

Because there is no official body that formally recognizes continents, whether or not Zealandia ends up in future geography textbooks will come down to its acceptance by the scientific community at large, possibly with a little help from travelers like you.

1. Why does the author mention Pluto?
A.To express his or her pity.
B.To introduce the topic.
C.To go against the teachers»
D.To explain the ice dwarf.
2. What do we know about Zealandia in Paragraph 2?
A.It neighbors Australia.
B.It belongs to Gondwana now.
C.It is similar to Antarctica in size.
D.It has a history of over 80 billion years.
3. What can most probably help discover more secrets about Zealandia?
A.The sediment cores on Zealandia.
B.The wildlife in New Zealand.
C.The standard for a continent.
D.The seabed near Antarctica.
4. Where does the text probably come from?
A.A travel brochure.
B.An advertisement.
C.An geography magazine.
D.A science fiction.
