1 . You probably take many steps to protect your computer from getting a virus, but what about your cell phone? Cell phones are basically mini-computers, so, believe it or not, they too can get viruses.

“Viruses and malware(恶意软件)should not be a major concern to the average consumer who uses their device to make phone calls, take pictures, and download a few well-known apps from the major app marketplaces,” Tim Katsch Vice President of iDropped said. “If a user is downloading a lot of apps, changing and exploring settings within the device, and visiting a large number of websites from unknown sources, virus and malware protection should be kept on their mind.” If your phone gets a virus it can mess up your data, put random charges on your bill, and get private information such as your bank account number, credit card information, passwords, and your location.

The most common way that you could get a virus on your phone would be through downloading an infected app. Viruses can also get on your phone when you click on strange links or open up an email that contains a virus. Connecting to an unsecured wireless network in a public place is also a way for hackers(黑客)to get private information from your device.

If you're still convinced that your phone might get a virus, there are anti-virus apps that you can download that will constantly scan your phone to make sure it hasn't developed a virus, Apps like these will also check things before you download them to ensure that they are safe. Another tip is to always look over your cell phone bill every month to make sure there aren't charges from apps that you never downloaded.

Technology is getting smarter, but so are hackers, and it's important to always be cautious with anything you do on your phone. Many people store a lot of personal information on their phones, and while that might make life a little more convenient, it can also do a lot of damage if hacked.

1. What can we learn from Tim Katsch's words?
A.The wireless network in the public places is safe to use.
B.Viruses and malware will most probably attack average phones.
C.Downloading a lot of apps will protect your phone from being hacked.
D.The average consumer needn't worry much about a virus or malware.
2. What's the most common way that your phone gets a virus?
A.Downloading an infected app.
B.Clicking on close friends' links.
C.Connecting to your mobile data.
D.Changing your private information.
3. What does the last paragraph convey?
A.Harm set, harm get.
B.Every coin has two sides.
C.Kill two birds with one stone.
D.Technology makes life smarter.
4. What may be the best title for the text?
A.Anti-Virus Apps Make Your Cell Phone Safe?
B.Viruses and Malware Damage Your Cell Phone?
C.Worried About Your Cell Phone Catching a Virus?
D.Ready to Fight Against the Hackers to Your Cell Phone?

2 . We know that China is the largest and fastest-growing consumer market in the world. What is less well understood are the forces that shape consumerism in the world’s most populous country. In my view, there are some social and cultural aspects at play that drive consumer spending.

Consumerism is related to freedom. To have a choice means to have consumer choice. You are what you consume. Consumption is an expression of self. It allows you to explore the world through its products, to experiment with lifestyle choices, and to do so safely and anonymously(匿名). You might never get to France, but you can try French wine. California might be far, but you can go to Shanghai Disneyland. Indeed, the enthusiasm for choice is reflected in the enthusiasm Chinese consumers have for online shopping.

Consumerism is a statement of success. American economist Thorstein Veblen popularized the concept of “conspicuous consumption”. When consumption is no longer driven only by need, it becomes a way of making a statement that you have disposable(可自由支配的)income and you can ---at least in certain respects---enjoy life on your terms. Simple pleasures---a pair of shoes, a smartphone, designer clothing --- become statements of personal identity.

The collective experience is focused. We like participating in group events. FOMO, the Fear of Missing Out, goes beyond cultures. But I suspect this trend is stronger in China than in the West because Confucian culture does not celebrate outsiders as the West’s culture does. Social media reinforce(强化)this collective pattern so that shopping and dining are shared experiences. Opinions are crowd-sourced. And the merchants reinforce this pattern by supporting holiday sales, group buying, and other promotions.

Successful brands in China are able to handle most or all of the above considerations. The consumer must not only be delighted with your product. The journey of the consumer must also respect these socio-cultural aspects.

1. What’s mainly talked about in the passage?
A.Chinese are growing wealthier.
B.China’s fast-growing market economy.
C.Chinese socio-cultural influences on consumerism.
D.Chinese consumers’ preference for quality rather than quantity.
2. What does Paragraph 2 focus on ?
A.Shopping online is a new experience.
B.Consumption can be a reflection of freedom.
C.Foreign products can be purchased in China.
D.Shopping around the world is a favorable choice.
3. What do the underlined words “conspicuous consumption” in Paragraph 3 mean?
A.The ability to cover one’s real need in daily life.
B.Spending money in order to keep up with others.
C.The purchase of expensive items to display status.
D.Buying plenty of goods and delivering them to others.
4. Why does the author suspect FOMO is stronger in China?
A.Social media play a bigger role in their lives.
B.Following the trend is what people like better.
C.Chinese people have less contact with the strangers.
D.Confucian culture is less likely to appreciate outsiders.

3 . A few years ago, I moved to Aurora, Ont. with my boyfriend and I longed to make friends in my new neighborhood.

Where we lived the houses were jammed together so tightly. But the irony (讽刺) of living so close was that no one actually talked to each other; as in an open-concept office, they pretend they can’t hear or see each other to maintain at least an illusion of privacy.

It was not so easy to make friends as an adult. I was about to give up when I caught sight of a beautiful, tall blonde taking out her recycling. She walked with confidence—even her ponytail bounced. I gasped, “I recycle too! We have so much in common!”

The question was, how would we meet? What would I say? So I thought, “What if I just happened to be jogging by?” I put on my running shoes, but after a few times around the block, dripping sweat, I didn’t see her. I decided to seize on the one thing I already knew about her— she takes out her blue bin.

The following day, I woke up a little earlier than usual. A little after 8 a.m., the garage truck appeared and the blonde emerged. I grabbed a bin and made my way to the end of my driveway. “Just act naturally, Megan,” I told myself. “Good morning. How are you?” I said, cool as a cucumber. “Good. And you?” she replied. “Doing well…I am a new comer, just a DJ. I talk for a living. Clearly!” “Interesting,” she said.

As we both walked away, I turned and called out, “Oh, and by the way, I’m Megan.” “Michelle,” she replied. I walked back inside, wearing a giant grin.

Our “coincidental” recycling meet-ups continued for a few weeks until I finally gathered my courage to ask her to watch The Bachelor with me and she said yes.

That night, after we got everything ready, we settled on the couch and proceeded to drink wine, binge from our buffet, dissect doomed television relationships, tell stories about our own and laugh our faces off. We “found what we’d been looking for”: a new friend to fall platonically in love with.

1. What can be inferred from Paragraph 2?
A.The author lived in a small house.
B.The neighbors actually didn’t have privacy.
C.The author lived in a very crowded neighborhood.
D.The neighbors did not communicate with each other.
2. What do we know about their first meet-up?
A.The tall blonde pretended to be very cool.
B.The tall blonde wore a big smile when talking.
C.The author was quite satisfied with their first talk.
D.The two friends met accidentally when the truck came.
3. Which of the following words can best describe the author?
A.Timid but kind-hearted.B.Shy but persistent.
C.Hospitable and generous.D.Caring and modest.
4. What’s the main idea of the passage?
A.A DJ talking for a living began to recycle.
B.A blonde watched The Bachelor with a DJ.
C.A new comer finally made friends with a blonde.
D.Two women recycled together in the neighborhood.

7 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。续写的词数应为150 左右。

Four men once came to a wet place in the roadless forest to fish. They cast their tent upon pine-clothed rocks. On sweet-smelling branches they slept the sleep of unsuccessful fishermen, for the sun made them lazy and the rain made them wet in turn. Finally they ate the last bit of bacon and the last wonderful cake.

Immediately a little man volunteered to stay and hold the camp while the remaining three should go miles to a farmhouse for supplies. They looked at him dismally (沮丧地). “There's only one of you — the devil is your brother,” they said and disappeared down the hill. Then night came and the three had not returned. The little man sat close to the campfire and added branches. Suddenly he heard the coming rustle (沙沙声) of the dead leaves. The little man arose slowly to his feet, his clothes refused to fit his back, his pipe dropped from his mouth, and his knees struck each other. “Hah!” he cried. A low voice replied and a bear paced into the light of the fire. The little man supported himself upon a tree and recognized his visitor — a bear.

The bear was obviously an experienced fighter, for its fur had become deep yellow with age. There was confidence in his small pace and in his shining eyes. It rolled back its lips and exposed its white teeth. The fire enlarged the red of its mouth. The little man had never come across the terrible animal before and was too scared to breathe. “Ah!” The bear interpreted this silence as a gladiator (角斗士). It approached cautiously and slowly. As it came near, the boots of fear were suddenly upon the little man's feet. He cried out and then ran around the campfire. “Ho!” said the bear to himself, “this thing won't fight — he runs. Well, let me catch him.” It started strongly around the campfire. The little man screamed and ran violently. Twice around they went.

In desperation the little man flew into the tent.

10 . It s good to share, right? Growing up as kids we are told to share our toys and not be selfish. We also live in an age where discussing our feelings is encouraged. But when does it all become too much? With new fashion trending all the time, such as dance challenges and wearing a pillow as a dress, the question is: when can sharing become oversharing on social media?

What is oversharing? The term has become related to social media, but it doesn’t only belong to this platform. Imagine you head to a party and you meet someone. Within five minutes they have told details about their personal life. While some of us may try to escape these people, according to marriage therapist Carolyn Cole, this form of oversharing could come from a strong desire to connect with someone. But how does this translate to social media?

Dr. Christopher Hand, a lecturer in internet psychology, says the more details people share, the less sympathy (同情)we express when things go wrong. This could be due to a belief that we attract our own negative experiences the more we share them. It seems that sadfishing, the idea of searching for sympathy by oversharing, is generally considered as negative rather than the cry for help it could actually be.

However, Dr. Hand’s research also seems to suggest that the more we post on a platform, the more socially attractive we become—if the posts are positive. Even back in 2015, Gwendolyn Seidman PhD, said that we should avoid complaining and being negative online. We should also control clear of showing off or bragging (吹嘘), as it’s now known—especially about our love lives. It makes sense—if your date is going "that well”, would you really have time to share a photo with text?

So, how can you know if you are oversharing? Well, why not ask your friends in real life. They would probably be more than happy to tell you if your posts about your breakfast or your gripes about your lack of money really are too much.
