1 . The TV series, The Longest Day in Chang’an, which was shown on Chinese online platforms, became a hit soon. Since then, it has been shown on partnering streaming platforms and TV networks abroad. Some websites overseas also offered the program to their users paying for it — the first time a Chinese series was broadcast as paid content abroad.
“I was amazed by the overseas audience’s love of this show,” Cao Dun, director of The Longest Day in Chang’an told Beijing Review. “I was worried that they wouldn’t understand the complex political structure of the Tang Dynasty. But in fact, the show is prompting foreign audiences to research the history of the Tang Dynasty to better understand the plot.”
The unique culture in ancient China is no a barrier but a bridge to connect with foreign audiences. In the TV series, every figure is given enough space to flesh out his or her character.
Telling stories of the ordinary Chinese people that resonate (引起共鸣) with the audience might be the way to communicate with the world. “The success of the TV series shows that beauty is a universal language crossing borders,” he told Beijing Review.
His ambition is to distinguish Chinese dramas from the TV shows in the rest of the world. “The TV series is a step in my plan to tell Chinese stories to the world,” Cao said. “After describing the impressive beauty of the Tang dynasty, I am looking for several plays that tell stories of today’s China. I don’t want to copy any country’s production. Chinese dramas have to build on our rich culture and Chinese people’s everyday life.” Cao added.

3 . During 20 years of working at his family’s supermarket, José Luis-Reig, known as Pep, never gave a thought to the world of academia(学术界). It was only when visiting the classrooms of universities with his two teenage daughters that he suddenly felt himself at home among ‘the atmosphere of learning’.
After school Pep had intended to study biology but was called on to help run the family business instead. When he was at school, he developed a reputation for helping others and so was invited onto the local radio, where the presenter said. “You’re like a young psychologist(心理学家).”
Pep was no stranger to change. The family business had originally been a sawmill(锯木厂). But when Pep, then 27, was asked if he wanted to take over, he decided to change the mill into the town’s first supermarket.
One day in the shop, the radio presenter’s comment came back to him. After running the idea past his family, he applied to a university in Palma to study psychology and, aged 46, was accepted.
“I had to get used to being much older than the other students.” he says. “But I ended up helping the others because I’d had more life experience.” Pep came top of his year and impressed his tutors(导师)so much that he was offered a job researching and teaching. Now 52, and still in the job. He adds, “My only regret is not having done it earlier.”
The traditional view used to be that, while making changes in your youth was acceptable, you should then settle on a career and stick to it. But today record numbers of 50-and 60-somethings are choosing to take on new challenges. Job satisfaction becomes increasingly significant when you’ve only got a few miles on the clock.

4 . Famous Movie Scene Locations
Kathmandu. Nepal
Ancient cities always provide a great back drop, as moviegoers are transported back in time to places that remain untouched by the outside world. In Doctor Strange. Benedict Cumberbatch plays a brilliant surgeon. Searching for a cure, he travels to a sacred place known as “Kamar Taj”. seeking the guidance of “The Ancient One”. With fantastic traditional architecture colourful street markets and sacred temples. Kathmandu was the perfect setting, as its rich history was juxtaposed(映射)against the amazing special effects used to transport actors across space and time.
Italy
The movie Angels and Demons is like a treasure map for history and travel lovers, with dozens of incredible(and real)places that tourists can easily find. After the great success of The Da Vinci Code, Tom Hanks returned as Robert Langdon, a Harvard symbologist trying to prevent an attack against The Vatican. Rome’s oldest and most famous sites receive all of the attention they deserve, including the Pantheon, the Sistene Chapel, St. Peter’s Square, the Basilica. the Piazza Navona and Trevi Fountain, to name just a few.
New Zealand
New Zealand got a huge tourism increase after The Lord of the Rings trilogy(三部曲)pushed it into the spotlight. Moviegoers were blown away by the film’s vast. unspoiled nature, amazing mountain ranges, and…Hobbit Holes. If you travel to Hobbiton. you can tour the set, see where famous scenes were filmed, stay overnight at the Green Dragon Inn and eat at The Shire’s Rest café.
Paris. France
Woody Allen’s Midnight in Paris, filmed almost entirely on the location, features Owen Wilson as a struggling writer. In this film, every night at midnight Wilson is transported back to Paris in the 1920s, where he finds true inspiration, and true love.

7 . Scientists say they’ve witnessed a never-before-seen type of reproduction in organic robots created in the lab using frog cells.
The discovery involves a xenobot—a simple, “programmable” organism that is created by bringing stem cells together in a lab. “You can think about this like using the different cells as building blocks like you would build with LEGO,” Douglas Blackiston, a co-author of the study says. The xenobots are made of cells taken from an African frog. The cells aren’t genetically changed at all, but simply combined in different arrangements to produce the xenobots, says Blackiston. What the xenobots did—self-replication—is new in living organisms, says Michael Levin, a professor of biology at Tufts. It does happen at the molecular (分子的) level, but “we are not aware of any organism that reproduces in this way,” he says.
Xenobots are collections of living cells and have no brain or digestive system. But in a real sense they can be programmed—to corral other cells, as in this study, or eventually to do other things. That’s why the researchers think of them as tiny organic robots. “The distinction between a robot and an organism is not nearly as sharp as... we used to think it was,” Levin says. “These creatures, they have properties of both.”
The xenobots fuel themselves by using tiny hair-like structures. They have a tendency to spin, which “turns out to be pretty good for collecting piles of things,” such as other cells, Blackiston says. So the team used an artificial intelligence-driven computer simulation (模拟图像) to see how they might control the xenobots into shapes that would be even better at piling things up. The researchers hope that one day these xenobots could be programmed to perform useful functions such as finding cancer cells in the human body or trapping harmful microplastics in the ocean.
But that concerns some scientists. Nita Farahany is a professor who studies the ethics involved in new technologies and was not part of the xenobot research. “Any time we try to improve life by means of tech... we should recognize its potential to go really poor,” she said.
