文章大意:这是一篇说明文。文章主要介绍了在香港举办的“数码敦煌”展的具体情况及其对比传统展览的优势和克服的数字化难题。

1 . The exhibit, Digital Dunhuang — Tales of Heaven and Earth, which was held at the Hong Kong Heritage Museum, brought to Hong Kong more than 100 exhibits including the visual murals and other related programs that could allow visitors to learn about the art and history of the Mogao Caves in a fun way.

“Dunhuang was an international city, a place where East met West, on the old Silk Road. So the Mogao Caves, which were completed in a period of over 1,000 years, record the ways of life and beliefs of the different peoples that crossed paths there,” explained Fion Lin of Hong Kong Heritage Museum.

Visitors can now get up close and personal with these faraway treasures without having to step into the caves, thanks to the digitization project of the Dunhuang Academy, a pioneer that has made great progress in the digitization and 3D scanning of the Dunhuang treasures.

“Studies have shown that in a cave, both temperature and CO2 concentration level can rise with 15 tourists inside for ten minutes. As a result, the wall paintings are going to eventually fade. Digital technology has helped to strike a balance between sharing the treasures and protecting them,” said Lin.

However, digitization of the caves faces many challenges such as poor lighting and rough wall surfaces. On average, 40,000 pictures have to be taken to cover 300 m2. Great amount of efforts have been made to piece the pictures together. What the exhibition presented is the result of years of hard work.

During the exhibition period, a mini display on Dunhuang music culture was also being held at the Museum for public participation.

2 . Driving is one of those necessary skills that you should possess if you wish to survive as one of "the fittest" in the modern life. You can start learning to drive when you are eighteen, the legal age. Experience tells that the older you become, the harder it is to learn driving.

However, learning to drive will be the very last thing on your mind when you graduate out of a university, and will be desperate looking for a job and stressing out on how to clear your student debt. So, the best way is to start out early on your path to take driving lessons. Many of the teens in recent times decide not to drive. By this, you are really missing out on a huge part of growing up and losing out on a whole lot of benefits. The top reason for not learning driving is the relatively high costs of driving lessons. But, we are here to tell you why you should overlook the costs and rather concentrate on the advantages.

No need for public transport. Using public transport to get to any destination quickly is anything but convenient. If you know how to drive, you will never have to rely on public modes of transportation ever again. Relying on a bus or train to arrive smoothly on time rarely ever happens.

At times you aren't or can't be relying on public transportation. Those are the times you are probably relying on a friend, or your parents for a ride. Knowing how to drive yourself will make you independent and you wouldn't have to fit your plans according to other peoples’ schedules.

In the recent job world, there may be plenty of jobs out there which won't mark you as a qualified candidate because you don't know how to drive.

These are the main benefits that knowing how to drive could bring into your life. So start going to a driving school as early as possible.

4 . Doing away with naps (小睡)disturbs children's ability to process and remember the information they learn at school, researchers from the University of Massachusetts Amherst argued in a study published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.

The researchers examed the memory retention (保留)skills of 40 preschool students by playing a memory-like game with them during regular school hours. In one condition, the kids took their regular classroom nap after the memory game, averaging 77 minutes of sleep. In the second condition, children were kept awake for the same amount of time.

Researchers examed the kids' recall (回忆)later that same day and the following day, and found the nappers remembered about 75% of what they had learned in the game-a full 10% better than the kids who went without a nap.

“While the children performed about the same immediately after learning in both the nap and wake conditions, the children performed significantly better when they napped both in the afternoon and the next day,” the study authors wrote. “That means that when they miss a nap, children cannot recover this benefit of sleep with their overnight sleep. It seems that there is an additional benefit of having the sleep occur in close proximity (临近)to the learning.”

As evidence increases to support the positive effects of attending preschool on future school performance, some parents and educators have questioned whether in-school naptime should be replaced with more learning.

These results provide some of the first scientific evidence for the benefits of naps, said study author Rebecca Spencer, professor of psychology at UMass Amherst. “Until now, there was nothing to support teachers who feel that naps can really help young children. There had been no specific science behind that,” Spencer said in a statement. “We hope these results will be used by policy makers to make educated decisions regarding the nap chances in the classrooms. Children should not only be given the chances, they also should be encouraged to sleep by creating an environment which supports sleep.”

1. What's the percentage of the non-nappers' recall in the next day?
A.10%.B.55%.C.65%.D.75%.
2. What can we infer from paragraph 4?
A.Overnight sleep makes up for missing naps.
B.It's better for kids to nap after their learning.
C.Learning happens in both the nap and wake hours.
D.Kids generally have better memories in the morning.
3. What may be Spencer's suggestion for policy makers?
A.Guaranteeing the kids' naptime while at school.
B.Allowing kids to attend preschool at a later age.
C.Replacing in-school naptime with more learning.
D.Creating a lively classroom atmosphere for kids.
4. What's the main idea of the text?
A.The character of childhood memory is different.B.Children should plan their sleep properly.
C.A game is designed for preschool children.D.Naps are important for kids' learning.

5 . Today I am here to tell you a story of death, new life and revenge(报复). Three years ago today, the city council of Redondo Beach California ordered the death of my 30-year-old pepper tree. Its roots had begun to destroy the pavement in front of my house. They even made me pay for the damages to the sidewalk and for the tree removal.

I loved Clyde. I was beginning to get an old man, and planting something that I knew would live well beyond my lifetime was something very special. I took very good care of him. I gave him a stick to rest on when he was a young child, and I watched him grow. Just as Clyde was becoming strong and healthy, expanding his root system, and making his own way in life, the mayor took it upon himself to kill my beautiful children.

Mayor Steve Aspel. You killed my child. For this, you will pay. Two years and seven months ago, I secretly planted 45 California Redwoods and 82 Giant Sequoias in various parks, and yards of state around your city.

Today, each of their root systems will be at least 30 feet in diameter, deep in the soil. You may have noticed the trees growing in front of city council, or that new one in your backyard. That’s a Giant Sequoia, and its growth will begin accelerating rapidly in the coming months.

You killed Clyde, but I have replaced him with over 100 living giants. In a few years, they'll begin breaking heights of 100-300 feet and live well beyond 2,500 years. To remove even one of them at this point will cost well over $ 1,500... And you would pay the bill, just like you did to me 3 years ago today.

Good day to you, sir. May your city be overrun by trees. And may Clyde rest in peace.

1. Why did Steve Aspel order the killing of Clyde?
A.To protect the pavement.
B.To make his backyard prettier.
C.To make room for other trees.
D.To take his revenge on the author.
2. What does the author mainly describe in paragraph 2?
A.The childhood of Clyde.
B.His skills in gardening.
C.The suffering of Clyde.
D.His deep affection for Clyde.
3. How did the author respond to Clyde's death?
A.He asked Steve Aspel for compensation.
B.He planted many more trees secretly.
C.He cut down many trees to take revenge.
D.He stole trees from the mayor's backyard.
4. What's the author's feeling in paragraph 4?
A.Regretful.B.Curious.C.Proud.D.Surprised.
