Since 1990, Artist Tian Kun has been preserving the art of kangweihua,    1    unique style of painting from her hometown in the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region.

Kangweihua    2    (literal)means “paintings around bed”. It’s a kind of folk art that was very popular during the 1960s and 1970s. The colorful, vivid paintings reflected the daily lives of the local people and     3    (consider)a typical home decoration at the time.

As a little girl, Tian loved watching her mother painting on the     4    (wall)around their bed. From animals and flowers to scenes of people    5    (work)on the farm, the paintings mirrored the unique charm and beauty of the lifestyle in the villages.

Tian’s    6    (observe)of her mother painting has developed into her own passion for the art. Now people can have access     7     her paintings exhibited at the local cultural center.    8    , it is not enough for her because she hopes to display the folk art to a     9    (wide)audience. Mao Fengxiang, 28, from Zunyi, Guizhou province, spent two days making a Long March 2F carrier rocket,     1    , however, won't be going into space. It's made of wood.

“The Long March 2F carrier rocket carrying the Shenzhou XII spacecraft was     2    (successful) launched recently, marking a new stage for human's     3    (explore) of space,” Mao said, noting that he made the model     4    (honor) the major milestone for the Chinese space program. The 4-meter-tall model is all wood. It is made with techniques     5    (hand) down to Mao from his grandfather. There are no nails or other metal fasteners. “I worked at least 12 hours a day, and my relatives and friends helped me a lot. It is not the most difficult woodwork, but I am most proud of     6    ,” he said.

Mao has made approximately 200 other pieces - including swords, tanks and helicopters-since he     7    (begin) carpentry with a passion.
