Earthquake -proof (抗震的) buildings

There are a number of ways     1     buildings can be made strong enough to stand up to earthquakes. The simplest way is to make them much     2     (strong). A building strong enough not     3     (destroy) by a large earthquake, however, would probably look more like a bunker (地堡) than a nice place to live     4    

So engineers have looked for other ways. One is to make the building that can swing (摇摆) from side to side.     5     is to design it so that it doesn't sit directly on the ground but on something that allows it to move a bit with the earthquake. If only a small part of a building     6     (fall) down in an earthquake, damage can be     7     (great) reduced, so buildings are often designed to do this as well.

However,     8     (make) new earthquake -proof buildings is expensive, but with the     9     (develop) of science and technology more efforts will be made to solve     10     problem in the future.

Our school, Chairo Technical School in Australia, has a strong service idea that covers two of     1    (we) core values, namely “life-long learning” and “life-long serving”. All the students are encouraged to become     2    (active) involved in these programs and many opportunities exist at all the     3    (level) through the country.

Teams of teachers and students from the school     4    (send) to every part across the whole country and other countries regularly to participate     5     different programs, including a regular English teaching tour of our sister school in China. As a school we are always seeking different service opportunities,     6     will encourage our students to devote their time and efforts to     7    (assist) those more needy than themselves.

As     8     matter of fact, many programs     9    (aim) at helping the needy and elderly within our local communities also occur throughout each year, including an annual activity, Service Week. While these programs do assist those in need, it is also exciting to see the    10    (person) growth that occurs among our participating students. The real-life experiences strengthen our teamwork effectively in order to better serve the society for life.

My time here in China is going well. I love my new school     1     classmates. Over the October holiday, my parents and I are planning to go to Xi’an to see the Terracotta Army. I’ve heard that it is an    2    (amaze) sight, and I can’t wait to go. To me, the story of the Terracotta Army is almost unbelievable. It’s amazing that there are more than 8,000     3     (statue), and no one in modern times knew about     4     (they) until the1970s.

We’re also planning to visit several other places in Xi’an. My dad and I are both looking forward to    5     (go) to the Shaanxi History Museum, because my dad loves history and I have heard that this museum is known    6    a “Chinese treasure house”！We’re also going to the Xi’an City Wall and a few other famous     7     (sight).

We’re taking the train，    8    (leave)the day before the October holiday begins. We’re arriving at 9:30 a.m. and will start sightseeing right away, so I hope we sleep well on     9    train!

As people across the country watched the launch of China’s Shenzhou-14 spaceship closely,    1    pen floating in the capsule (太空舱)    2    (catch) the attention of many people.

The pen was produced by Shaoguan Shengyi Stationery Co., Ltd., which is a pioneer in     3    (make) pens used in outer space.

The space pen is different    4    a common pen. A common pen can neither withstand the influence and vibration (震动) experienced by the spaceship during rocket launch (发射) nor write    5    (proper) in an environment of outer space: The pen    6    (have) a head made of special materials to make it possible to write in outer space. The ink within the pen is also a special liquid with high viscosity (黏性), making writing stick to surfaces closely instead of flying off as dangerous    7    (drop). What’s more, the head    8    is less sharp than the head of a normal pen can be safely used in the cabin.

A space pen developed by the company    9    (send) into space aboard the Shenzhen-10 spacecraft in 2013, making China the    10    (two) country in the world able to independently produce a pen usable in space.

A Long March-5 rocket,     1     (carry) the Chang’e-5 spacecraft, takes off from the Wenchang Spacecraft Launch Site on the coast of southern island province of Hainan on November 24,2020.

China’s Chang’e-5 probe( 探 测 器 ) decelerated and entered the lunar orbit on Saturday,     2    completed a vital step on its way to collect and return moon samples, the China National Space Administration (CNSA)     3    (announce).

After flying about 112 hours from Earth,     4     engine on the probe ignited (点火) when it was 400 km away from the surface     5     the moon at 8:58 p.m. and shut down after about 17 minutes, the CNSA said.

The probe performed the braking without incident and entered the lunar orbit     6    (successful ) according to the real-time monitoring data.

Chang’e-5 , which     7     (make) up of an orbiter, a lander, an ascender(上升器 ), and a returner, has carried out two orbital     8    (correction) during the Earth-Moon transfer, achieving its     9     (expect) goals.

Afterward, it will adjust the altitude and inclination (倾斜度) of its orbit around the moon. When the time is appropriate, it will land softly on the near side of the moon     10    (collect ) and return samples from the moon as planned.
