1 . 请阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

She was a large woman with a large handbag that had everything in it except hammer and nails. It was about eleven o'clock at night, and she was walking alone, when a boy, fourteen   or fifteen years old, ran up behind her and tried to snatch (抢夺) her handbag. The strap (带子) broke with the single pull the boy gave it from behind. But the boy’s weight and the weight of the handbag caused him to lose his balance. As a result, instead of running away as he had hoped, the boy fell on his back on the sidewalk, and his legs flew up.

The large woman simply turned around and kicked him right in his worn-out blue-jeaned sitter. Then she reached down, picked the boy up by his shirt front, and shook him until his teeth rattled ( 嘎嘎作响). After that the woman said, “Pick up my handbag, boy, and give it here.” She still held him, while he picked it up. Then she said, “Now aren’t you ashamed of yourself?” Firmly seized by his shirt front, the boy said, “Yes, madam.” The woman said, “What did you want to do it for?” “…a new pair of shoes…” the boy said, “I didn’t do it on purpose.” She said, “You’re lying!” She did not release (松开) him. “I’m very sorry, lady, I’m sorry,” whispered the boy.

“Um-hum! And your face is dirty. Aren’t you got nobody home to tell you to wash your face? Then it will get washed this evening,” said the large woman starting up the street, dragging the frightened weak boy behind her. Sweat came out on the boy’s face and he began to struggle. Mrs. Jones continued to drag him up the street. When she got to her door, she dragged the boy inside. She turned on the light and left the door open. The woman still had him by the neck in the middle of her room. She said, “Then, you go to that sink and wash your face,” said the woman, then she released him at last.

2 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

During this past year, I’ve had three instances of car trouble. Each time these things happened, I was sick of the way most people hadn’t bothered to help. One of those times, I was on the side of the road for close to three hours with my big Jeep. I put signs in the windows, big signs that said NEED A JACK (千斤顶), and offered money. Nothing. Right as I was about to give up, a Mexican family in a small truck pulled over, and the father bounded out.

He sized up the situation and called for his daughter, who spoke English. He conveyed through her that he had a jack but that it was too small for the Jeep, so we would need something to support it. Then he got a saw (锯子) from the truck and cut a section out of a big log on the side of the road. We rolled it over and put his jack on top, and we were in business.

I started taking the wheel off, and then, if you can believe it, I broke his tire iron. No worries: He handed it to his wife, and she was gone in a flash down the road to buy a new tire iron. She was back in 15 minutes. We finished the job, and I was a very happy man.

The two of us were dirty and sweaty. His wife prepared a pot of water for us to wash our hands. I tried to put a $20 bill in the man’s hand, but he wouldn’t take it, so instead I went up to the truck and gave it to his wife as quietly as I could. I asked the little girl where they lived. Mexico, she said. They were in Oregon so Mommy and Daddy could work on a fruit farm for the next few weeks. Then they would go home.

What started as a lonely graduation day for a teen in Alabama has turned into a priceless opportunity to bond with his teacher. Now, that teacher is working to get that student a car that will get him started in his adult life.

On Thursday, Bessemer City High School held its annual graduation ceremony. Dom Moore was one of the teachers involved in coordinating the event. After the ceremony ended, Dom was cleaning up. Nearly everybody had left to celebrate with friends and family, but one young man was still sitting there by himself. “I knew his moods and I knew he wasn't himself,” Dom said. Not knowing what to say at first, the teacher told him, "I expect big things from you and it's going to be OK.”

Dom assumed that someone would show up eventually to give the graduate a ride home. But nobody did. When Dom offered to drive him, the two had no idea that this was to be more than just a ride home. The teacher decided to take him out to eat-at any restaurant of his choice. They ended up at the Cheesecake Factory, and enjoyed a hearty meal and dessert to celebrate the graduate's achievement.

At first, the two were fighting back tears. But before long, they were having a great time together. Dom never asked why the boy's family did not attend the ceremony. What was important to him was that the young man felt appreciated for what he had accomplished. Later that evening, Dom took to Facebook to share a photo and some thoughts on the event. He says that he doesn't normally post about these situations, as they are all too common in his profession, but that something inside urged him to share this experience.

Every year on my birthday, from the time I turned 12, a white gardenia was delivered to my house in Bethesda, Maryland. No card or note came with it. Calls to the florist were always in vain- -it was a cash purchase. After a while I stopped trying to discover the sender's identity and was just delighted in the beauty and fragrance of that magical, perfect white flower placed in soft pink tissue paper.

However, I never stopped imagining who the anonymous giver might be. My mother contributed to these imaginings. And at that time, she'd ask me if there was someone for whom I had done a special kindness showing appreciation. As a teenager, I had more fun imagining that it might be a boy I fell in love or one who had noticed me even though I didn't know him.

When I was 17, a boy broke my heart. The night he called for the last time, I cried myself to sleep. When I awoke in the morning, there was a line of words on my mirror in red lipstick. I thought about that quotation from Emerson for a long time, and until my heart healed and went to get the glass cleaned, my mother knew everything was all right again. One month before my high school graduation, my father died of a heart attack. My feelings ranged from grief to abandonment, fear and overwhelming anger; my dad was missing some of the most important events in my life. I became completely uninterested in my coming graduation, the play and the prom. But my mother, in the midst of her own grief, would not hear of my skipping any of those things.

The day before my father died, my mother and I had gone shopping for a prom dress. We'd found a spectacular, and impressive one, with yards and yards of dotted Swiss in red, white and blue.

5 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语编写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

I was a single mother in my 30s who lived down and out with my daughter Peggy in a small apartment, struggling hard to make our needs meet.

One day, I headed to the downtown for an interview. I sat down in the streetcar, and there against the seat was a beautiful silk umbrella with a silver handle decorated with gold scrolls, among which there was a name carved.

On impulse(冲动) I determined to find the owner myself. I got off the streetcar in the heavy rain and thankfully opened the umbrella to protect myself. Then I searched a telephone book for the name, I found it immediately and called it, waiting patiently, and then a lady answered.

"Yes, “she said in surprise, with extreme excitement." It was my umbrella which had been stolen a year ago.”

So appealing was her pleasure that I forgot I was looking for a job and went directly to her small house. She took the umbrella, with teary eyes, explaining with choking voice that the umbrella was given by her parents, now dead, Her happiness at retrieving(找回)this special possession was such that to have accepted her reward would have spoiled something, so I refused her offer and left.

The following months were hard. I can only obtain temporary employment, for a small salary. What was worse, I had just lost my last job before Christmas, with only fifteen dollars left. Unless a miracle happened, I would be homeless in January, foodless and jobless. I had prayed steadily for weeks, and there had been no answer but this coldness and darkness.

The air was full of Christmas merriment, with the bells ringing and children shouting in the bitter dusk of the evening. But there should be no Christmas for me, I knew, no gifts, no remembrance whatsoever.

Thinking of this, I couldn’t control my tears on my way home, but I managed a smile so could greet my little daughter. She opened the door for me and threw herself in my arms, screaming joyously and demanding desirably for her Christmas gift. There I stood, frozen, overwhelmed by misery.

Lily was cleaning windows, and it was what she must do for her family's new Chinese restaurant. Everything had to be absolutely perfect: unique decorations, skillful employees, and delicious traditional food. Then customers would love the place, making the business a success.

Lily's family had just moved here from San Francisco, having bought a small restaurant, which was opened yesterday. She was new in the neighbor and had few friends. The first few days at her new school hadn't been easy, either. She found it hard to talk to people she didn't know and it seemed like the students hadn't even noticed her. She was eager for a friendship, though.

Lily shifted her vision to look outside the restaurant as a girl about her age, with abundant red hair, walked up the street. The girl paused to study the sign announcing their opening and then looked directly at Lily with a friendly smile. Lily smiled back shyly and lifted a hand, accidentally waving with the cleaning cloth. The girl smiled at her amusement and waved back happily.

Lily hesitated, not accustomed to starting friendship, but she felt courageous, so she opened the door. "Hello," she said, adding the first thing that entered her head, “do you like Chinese food?”

“I don't know, but I like to try new things," the girl remarked, and then she introduced herself as Gabriela.

Lily could not think of additional conversation until she had a sudden idea.

A long time ago, there was a happy prince and princess in a country. They took care of and loved each other very much, and their country was happy, too. Therefore they didn't envy anything else. There was one thing they worried about. They wanted to make sure they could live happily forever like this.

One day, one of the officials found out the couple's worry and told them, “Prince, I heard that there is a magic charm(吉祥饰物),and it can protect you from any unfortunate event. If you always carry the magic charm with you, your fear and worry will disappear.” “Is it true? Where can I find that charm?” The prince asked him joyfully. “There is an old man in the forest, and he knows about everything. You can ask him.”

The couple visited the old man, and asked for help with their worries and fears. The old man nodded his head as if he knew everything and said, “Travel all around the world. Then, when you meet a very happy couple, ask them to cut a piece of their underwear. If you keep the piece of the underwear, your fear and worry will go away.”

The couple appreciated the old man's kindness and set out on the journey. The couple wandered around everywhere and heard about a happy knight (骑士) and his wife in a town. They went to visit the knight. “Are you really happy like the rumor?” Then the knight answered. “Of course, we are, Prince. But our only worry and problem is that we didn't have any children.”

They had to find an absolutely happy couple, so they continued their journey. They visited a happy couple who were famous for their happiness in the next town. And they asked the couple if they were really happy. The couple answered. “Yes, we are very happy. But we have too many children. A mother with a large family of children never has a peaceful day. We worry too much about our children.”

They could not get a magic charm this time too, and kept going on their trip. It was very hard to find the happiest couple in the world.

One day, the prince couple met a shepherd(牧羊人)and his wife in a big field.

I was six years old and my sister, Sally Kay, was a submissive(顺从的)three. For some reason,I thought we needed to earn some money.I decided we should "hire out" as maids. We visited the neighbors, offering to clean houses for them for a quarter cents.

Reasonable as our offer was, there were no takers. But one neighbor telephoned Mother to let her know what Mary Alice and Sally Kay were doing.Mother had just hung up the phone when we came bursting through the back door, into the kitchen of our apartment. “Girls,” Mother asked, “ Why were you two going around the neighborhood telling people you would clean their houses?”

Mother wasn't angry with us. In fact, we learned afterwards, she was amused that we had come up with such an idea. But, for some reason, we both denied having done any' such thing. Shocked and terribly hurt that her dear little girls could be such“bold-faced(厚颜无耻的)liars,"Mother then told us that Mrs. Jones had just called to tell her we had been to her house and said we would clean it for a quarter.

Faced with the truth, we admitted what we had done. Mother said that we had“fibbed(撒个小谎)。”We had not told the truth. She tried to explain why a fib hurt but she didn't feel that we really understood.

Mother decided to teach us a lesson, one that we never forgot. Then an idea came to her in a flash. She cheerfully continued preparing for lunch.

9 . 阅读下面材料, 根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段, 使之构成一篇完整的短文。续写的词数应为150左右。

There was something in the elderly woman’s grace that caught my eye. Although slow and unsure of her steps, the woman moved with deliberation (从容), and there was no hesitation in her gestures.

It was a few years ago, and I had taken a part - time holiday - season job in a video. store at the local shopping mall. From inside the store, I could see the people outside rushing by.

The elderly woman entered the store, along with her daughter, who was displaying a serious case of impatience, rolling her eyes, sighing and checking her watch every few seconds. I guessed if she had possessed a rope, she would have fastened it to her mother to drag her along to keep step with the rush of other shoppers.

The elderly woman separated from her daughter and began to seek through the DVDs on the nearest shelf. After the slightest hesitation, I walked over and asked if I could help her find something. The woman smiled up at me and showed me a title written on an old piece of paper.

Rather than rush off to locate the DVD for the woman, I asked her to walk with me so I could show her where she could find it. Looking back, I thought I wanted to enjoy her company for a moment.

Something about her deliberate movements reminded me of my own mother, who’d passed away the previous Christmas. I missed my mom and still felt regretful about the moments when I’d used my impatience to make her life unhappy.

As we walked along the back of the store, I introduced its floor plan: old television shows, action movies, cartoons, science fiction. The woman seemed glad of the unrushed company and casual conversation.

We found the DVD and she thanked me, saying that it was the one she’d enjoyed when she was her daughter’s age. Unwillingly, I accompanied her to the cash register, realizing I had to return the elderly woman to her daughter, who was still tapping her foot at the front of the store.

Paragraph 1: As the elderly woman was waiting in the queue at the cash register, I walked over to her daughter.

Bales left the pavement of Base Road and stepped onto snow-covered Jewell Trail. She planned a six-hour hike through New Hampshire’s Mount Washington State Park. She had packed for almost every emergency and intended to walk alone.

She’d checked the weather forecast posted by the Mount Washington Observatory before she left. Based on her experience, Bales knew that her hike was realistic. Besides, she had two emergency plans and extra layers of clothing to better adjust her body temperature as conditions changed.

The hike up the lower part of Jewell Trail was pleasant. Bales felt excited as she walked up into snowy paths. The sun shone through the trees and cast a shadow over her smiling face. Less than an hour later, loads of dark clouds had replaced the sunshine, and snow covered the surrounding trees.

She still smiled. However, the weather was showing its teeth. Bales added even more layers to shelter herself from the cold winds and thick fog. She made her way across the snow-covered ridge (山脊toward Mount Washington and began to think about calling it a day. Suddenly, she noticed something: a single set of footprints in the snow ahead of her, which had been made by a pair of sneakers-typically not the type for hiking.

Meanwhile, Bales was getting colder, even though she was moving fast and generating some body heat. With strong gusts of wind screaming and attacking her back and left side, she decided to abandon her plan. The only thing, however, kept her on the trail was the sneaker tracks in the snow.

Paragraph 1:

Bales faced a dilemma about whether to follow the tracks or not.

Paragraph 2:

Her searching now turned into rescuing the man.
