1 . 阅读下面的材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。续写的词数为150左右。

It was my first university day of new term, which I had been looking forward to in the summer vacation. Mother decided Dad should accompany me though I thought I could manage it myself. Everything here appeared a little fresh to me; yet I still had a butterfly in my stomach. The letter of admission said my dormitory was Room 512 on the fifth floor.

I climbed the stairs slowly, carrying a big suitcase, my father following with two bigger more. By the time I set foot onto the fifth floor, I got entirely burnt out and at the same time had a feeling of loneliness. Worse still, Dad missed a step and fell on his back, sending my new suitcases rolling down the stairs. “Damn it! (见鬼!)” he screamed, his face turning red. I knew storm was on the way. Whenever Dad's face turns red, look out.

How could I ever get him to finish unloading the car without screaming at me and making a scene in front of the other girls, whom I would have to spend the rest of the year with? At that point, doors along the narrow passage were opening and strange faces peering out (探出) with curiosity, as Dad walked with difficulty close behind. I felt it in my bones that my college life was getting off to a bad start.

“Wish to find the room quickly!” I prayed as I walked with my head bent. "Get him into a chair and calmed down." But then again, would there be a chair in my dormitory? Or would it be a purely empty room? I didn't know what was in store for me.

The Jungle Adventures of Eduardo and Me

For the first time, I came in contact with one of the cutest animals I had seen in all my years of adventuring through the jungle, an orangutan.

To be honest, I thought wild animals would be more frightened of humans than this little creature was.

The following morning I woke up in surprise because I felt something getting dropped on my face. As I opened my eyes and looked around, I saw the orangutan in the same position as it was last night. The only difference was that it was eating some type of fruit. After I had watched its behaviors for a short time, I realized that when it had done eating, it would drop the peel of the fruit on me. Never did I imagine that the animal would still be here.

I began to pack up my gear so I could head out of the jungle while it was still light out. I also figured that if the orangutan was going to stick with me while I found my way out, I might as well give it a name. I took one hard look at it and the name Eduardo popped in my head.

“You look like an Eduardo, so that’s what I am going to call you,” I said to it. After named him, Eduardo looked up at me and smiled a full-toothed smile that I had never seen any animal ever made before.

My bag was packed, and, as I was about to set on, Eduardo latched onto my legs once again, thinking that I was going to leave him behind. “Come on, little guy. I guess you are coming with me,” I told him as we started to walk. Eduardo unlatched himself from me, climbed up the trees, and started to swing from the vines in front of me. “Huh,” I thought. “It’s like he’s leading the way for me.” I put my trust in this little creature and followed the directions it was giving me for a good hour.

A little while later, I came to a complete stop when I realized that Eduardo had stopped. Being right in front of us was a not-so-nice looking tiger. Eduardo had stopped in the middle of hanging from a branch when he realized that the vicious animal was lying in my path.

We have a pit bull(比特犬). We found him a few weeks ago, walking along the road in a rural area. He tried jumping on cars, and we thought maybe his family was camping somewhere nearby, so we passed him by. A few hours later, on our return trip, he was still in the same place, again, trying to get folks to stop for him. When he saw us, he lay down in the middle of the road, so we were unable to get around him.

We stopped the car and looked around for a few minutes, trying to figure out if anyone was around from whom he was separated. It didn’t appear so. Then, we took a good look at the dog. He had no collar and he was really thin. We decided he was deserted.

My husband sad, “If he doesn’t bite me when I try to pick him up to put him in the car, then we have a new dog.” The dog happily joined us with no fight at all. The only thing we were in danger of was getting licked to death. He kept sticking his head between the two front seats and thanking us for picking him up.

The dog was clearly on the road for some time, He was extremely under weight. He was covered in scars and new wounds. We have guessed that some of the scars were from when he was on the road. We thought of possible fights with coyotes(土狼), but he also looked as though he was used to fighting other dogs. We figured his incredibly sweet personality was the reason why he was deserted. He can’t have been a good fighting dog.

Therefore, we fed him a lot over the course of the next two weeks and he gained over twenty pounds.

Jack couldn’t believe it when he saw them. The trainers (运动鞋) were on top of a cardboard box, next to a pile of rubbish bins. And they look really good and brand new. He peered inside the trainers and found they were just his size. Jack cried out, “Why would anyone throw them away?” Anna shrugged. Anna was his best friend, but Jack didn’t expect her to understand. She knew that he liked running and she even helped by timing him when he ran around the park. But Jack didn’t just like running---he was crazy about it.

He unzipped his school bag and put the trainers into his bag. “It’s the Area Cross-Country Championships in two weeks,” he said. “I’ll never do well in my worm old trainers. These will give me a chance.”

Anna nodded. She knew how important the Championships were to Jack. Five runners were selected from each school in the area. Jack hadn’t been chosen, but then one of the runners had gone to hospital. So they picked Jack to be his replacement in the race. Jack knew he had no chance of beating Beadle, the best runner in the school. However, he would be happy if he just did okay in the race---he didn’t want to let himself down.

Much to their surprise, something unusual happened when Jack put on the trainers. Usually Jack set out at a light jog at first when he practised running. But this time he reached top speed straight away. He didn’t plan it---it just happened. It felt as if he was running on air. He zoomed round the park and kept picking up sped. In fact he just had to relax and the trainers did the running. However, Anna felt really upset. She knew no pair of normal trainers could make such a difference. Anna shook her head, “You shouldn’t wear them in the race. It won’t be YOU who wins, will it? Anyone could win if they wore those trainers.” But Jack wouldn’t listen. “I won’t give them up. These trainers are my only chance to win that Championship. I don’t need your help!” he shouted. With that he turned and ran off like a speeding train.

Holly was confused as she opened the birthday present from her best friend. Susan — it was a twelve-by-eight inch dark blue carpet. Her “thanks” was hardly heard as Holly tried hard not to show her disappointment.

The next morning. I carried a kitchen rubbish bag outside only to find Susan’s carpet lying there. I immediately reached in and pulled it out of the rubbish can. After giving it a brushing. I brought it into the house and put it away.

Before Holly’s birthday, Susan had been a regular visitor in our home. But suddenly I realized that it had been nearly three weeks since we’d heard the mention of Susan’s name. I missed her warm smile very much.

“Susan invited us to go to her house after school tomorrow. “Holly said as soon as she arrived from school. From her voice I sensed she was pleased with the invitation.

We were traveling along the winding country road that led to her house the following day. On the way Susan talked nervously about her foster mom and the seventeen cats they had taken in and cared for.

When we came to a stop, Susan’s foster mom — who introduced herself as Glenda — gave us a warm welcome. Susan guided us through the house. She proudly showed us her room, which was only decorated with some shabby used furniture.

I followed Susan’s foster mom, Glenda, into the kitchen. After clearing a small area, Glenda poured us each a cup of black coffee with her trembling hand. Then she began to relax as we drank our coffee and chatted about her cats.

Her eyes shone as she showed her fondness for Susan. But her expression turned blue when she referred to the girl’s past In an instant, I came to respect this warmhearted woman who had opened her home to a younger girl and tied hard to make a difference in her life.

A pleasant surprise

For a long time, I had been looking for a piano of my own to practise on. There was a piano shop on the street along which I walked every day to school. Whenever I passed the shop, I would stop, looking at the beautiful piano standing in the comer of the shop window. How I had been dreaming, day and night to possess a piano like that!

Unfortunately, my father was just a clerk. Times were tough during the Depression, and there were five mouths to feed, besides buying coal and wood for the stove. In order to save money, even on cold winter days, my father would walk the seven miles every day to get to work. No he could never afford to buy me an expensive piano. Though he knew I wanted to play that piano so much» buying it was an extravagance (奢侈品) well beyond our family’s income.

One day after school, I went as usual to the shop window to look at the piano. However, to my surprise and disappointment, the piano had gone. I should not have been surprised as others had the right to buy it, if they could afford to. Tears filled my eyes when I thought of not being able to sec that piano any more.

Disappointed, helpless and sad, I wandered aimlessly up and down the street. After about an hour. I returned home. I had just entered into our house, when I heard my mother calling me. I brushed away my tears and followed the sound of her voice into the dining-room.

Once there was a little girl Lily who was very friendly and popular in her class. She was friends with everyone in her class. There was no one in class who did not like her. She was very kind and would always be busy with her friends. She felt very happy that she had so many friends at school and in her neighborhood.

On Friendship Day, her class organized an event, in which everyone had to make three presents and give them to their best friends. Lily was really looking forward to the coming Friendship Day as she was expecting gifts from her friends. However, when all the presents were shared among her classmates, she was the only one who hadn’t received any presents. She felt terrible and cried a lot. She wondered how that was possible. She had made so much effort to be friends with everyone but in the end no one thought of her as one of their best friends.

Everyone came and tried to comfort her for a while but each one only stayed for a short time before leaving. This was exactly what Lily had done so many times to others.

On that day when she got home, her mother saw her sad face. And then her mother asked her the reason for her sadness. “Where can I find true friends?” Lily asked. Her mother was surprised at her question. Then she asked Lily what had happened in school. Her mother comfort her and said, “You cannot buy friends with a smile or a few good words. If you really want true friends, you will have to give them real time and love. For a true friend you must always be available,in good times and bad.”

Lily replied, “But I want to be friends with everyone!”

9 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。

During this past year, I’ve had three instances of car trouble. Each time these things happened, I was sick of the way most people hadn’t bothered to help. One of those times, I was on the side of the road for close to three hours with my big Jeep. I put signs in the windows, big signs that said NEED A JACK (千斤顶), and offered money. Nothing. Right as I was about to give up, a Mexican family in a small truck pulled over, and the father bounded out.

He sized up the situation and called for his daughter, who spoke English. He conveyed through her that he had a jack but that it was too small for the Jeep, so we would need something to support it. Then he got a saw (锯子) from the truck and cut a section out of a big log on the side of the road. We rolled it over and put his jack on top, and we were in business.

I started taking the wheel off, and then, if you can believe it, I broke his tire iron. No worries: He handed it to his wife, and she was gone in a flash down the road to buy a new tire iron. She was back in 15 minutes. We finished the job, and I was a very happy man.

The two of us were dirty and sweaty. His wife prepared a pot of water for us to wash our hands. I tried to put a $20 bill in the man’s hand, but he wouldn’t take it, so instead I went up to the truck and gave it to his wife as quietly as I could. I asked the little girl where they lived. Mexico, she said. They were in Oregon so Mommy and Daddy could work on a fruit farm for the next few weeks. Then they would go home.

10 . 阅读下面材料,根据其内容和所给段落开头语续写两段,使之构成一篇完整的短文。续写词数应为150左右。

“Cut, cut, cut!” I shouted. But that didn’t stop Chewy from chasing after the squirrels (追逐松鼠) that had caught his eye halfway through the shot (拍摄).

“You’re supposed to be running after the thief, not squirrels!” I said.

But Chewy didn’t care. He had already moved on to chewing its leash (咬拴它的皮带). What kind of Hollywood dog wears a leash? It was Dad’s one rule, though. Because Chewy was only a little dog, I had to keep him on the leash whenever we filmed outside. As long as I followed that rule, I could use Dad’s old cell phone to shoot my movie.

“Let’s try this again,” I said.

This time, Chewy ran the entire length of the backyard. With the leash on, though, he didn’t exactly appear to be in any real hurry to catch anyone. The only way to make this look real would be to take off the leash. But that would mean breaking the promise I made to Dad.

On the other hand, if I moved quickly and was careful with my camera angles, would Dad ever know about it?

After taking off the leash, I put Chewy down on his mark and hit record. But before I could shout “action,” Chewy ran across the yard and down the driveway and jumped in circles around Mrs. Yang, our next-door neighbor.

“You must smell the doggy biscuits I just bought for you,” she said to him. That’s when Chewy noticed her bag. As if it were one of his toys, he grabbed it with his mouth and pulled. Mrs. Yang’s things dropped over the sidewalk.

I wanted to apologize. I wanted to help Mrs. Yang pick up her things. But then I remembered something. If Dad found out I had taken Chewy’s leash off, I wouldn’t be able to use his cell phone any more. In a panic, I took Chewy and ran inside the house.

When Dad arrived home that evening, I handed him his cell phone. “Did you finish shooting your movie already?” he asked.
