Recently I graduated from high school, and as a gift I received a huge hunch of flowers, 40 to be exact! I had so many that I didn't know what to do with them. The next weekend my niece and nephew, Sue and Mike, aged 6 and 7, came and suddenly I had an idea. I might let them give out these flowers to people they met on the street, and in this way they could learn how to be friendly to others. So I told them about my plan and explained that these flowers would make people feel happy and smile. They loved the idea and were eager to have a try. So at once we took every single flower and tied a smile card to it. We then went to the street with the flowers.
The first flower went to a policeman. As soon as she saw the policeman, my niece ran up to him and handed him a flower. His smile was so big, but hers was even bigger!
In no time, we neared the end of our flowers. It was lunch time and we went to Subway for lunch. There the kids gave a flower to the waitress, who was really excited to receive the flower. As we were eating our lunch, the waitress came up to the kids with two big chocolate cookies! She said the chocolate cookies were for them and that she really liked the flower! As they ate the cookies, my niece and nephew looked at me with the biggest smiles I had ever seen.

5 . When we wake up feeling sleepy, many of us often think, “I’m going to go to bed earlier tomorrow!” But however determined we are, chances are that we don’t keep our promise. This behavior is called “bedtime procrastination (拖延症)”, and results from lack of self-control and our body clock, reported HuffPost.
According to a study carried out by several health psychologists at Utrecht University, bedtime procrastination is a common problem. In their study, 53%of the 2.400 participants said they didn’t follow their sleep schedule, delaying (延迟) it at least twice a week.
It’s found that they delayed bedtime not because they liked to stay up late, but they couldn’t stop doing other trivial (琐碎的) things. “People who have trouble controlling their use of cell phones, handheld computers and other electronic devices are also more likely to delay going to bed,” Floor Kroese, a psychologist at Utrecht University, further explained to HuffPost.
Yet, according to scientists, lack of self-control is not the only thing to blame. Our body clock also plays an important role. It was also found that those who get up late are more likely to postpone their bedtime than those who wake early every morning. And more surprisingly, might owls would go to bed late at the very beginning of the weekday, even though they had to get up early for work and school. It’s their special body clock that plays a part in delaying their bedtime, reported Popular Science.
People always think that bedtime procrastination isn’t a big problem, but as Kroese explained, “the choices we make that affect our sleep could turn out to be pretty important for our health.”

6 . Shakespeare’s plays were introduced to China in the mid-19th century and in 1904 Charles Lamb’s adapted Shakespearean Stories was translated into Chinese by Lin Shu. Not an easy task for a man who knew no English and needed an assistant to read and explain the stories to him.
Chinese readers were greatly attracted to Shakespeare’s works. With China’s economic success in recent years, there has been a growing demand for cultural entertainment and Shakespeare’s plays have proved a great success, with the plays being staged in theaters, made into films and even as local operas.
China also had a playwright (剧作家) Tang Xianzu, who died the same year as Shakespeare. His play Peony Pavilion, the Chinese equivalent (相等物) of Romeo and Juliet, is highly regarded as a play of its time. But I suspect not many people in the West have heard of him or of his work.
While Western culture and history is widely taught and eagerly learnt in China, I believe it is time that the Western world try to understand China and the Chinese culture better through our history, literature and language.
During my recent stay in Beijing, I was amazed to find in a bookshop that there were rows and rows of bookshelves, full of original English books. However, here in Britain it is very hard to find books about and from China. This may partly explain why there is this difference of knowledge and understanding between the West and China.
However, the good news is that there is a growing interest to know more about each other and events like the Olympics have brought the world closer to China and China closer to the world, Policies such as “One Road, One Belt” also help to build the bridges of friendship and understanding among our peoples.

7 . Taking a step requires just one second for a normal person. But not for Gao Ziren, whose paralyzed left 1eg requires him to first move a crutch (拐杖) forward before his leg, and then balance himself. For 42 years, Gao, a teacher at Lixin village primary school in a mountainous area of East China’s Jiangxi province, has walked this way between his home, the school and his students’ homes. Over the course of his career, he has worn out more than 60 crutches.
Gao, 60, was born in a mountainous area of Meiling Township. Wanli District of Nanchang. After coming down with polio (脊髓灰质炎) at the age of 1, his left leg suffered muscular atrophy, leaving him unable to walk normally. He did not give up,relying instead on his mental strength to finish his studies from primary school through high school.
He started his career in 1977 when a village official visited him about being a teacher in the village, as one of the two teachers there had left. Gao agreed to take the position, for he knew the importance of a teacher to students, especially those like him. The roads were sandy and muddy in the past, “One year, it was snowing, and I walked more than one hour to the school. My colleague helped me half of the way-otherwise, I might have fallen into the gully,” he said.
Gao Yangyao, who worked with Gao Ziren for many years, said that “he has difficulty walking, but he is usually the first to come to school.” Gao Ziren said that because he walked slowly, it was too late for him to visit students’ homes after school, and therefore, he visited them on the weekends.
Now, many children follow their parents to live and study in cities, while some become left-behind children who live in rural areas and lack family care. Gao said it was important to be patient with left-behind children and pay more attention to their mental health. “When rural children lack family education, schools and teachers need to do more in psychological education,” said Li Wu, a principal of Meiling Central School. He said rural areas need more teachers like Gao Ziren.

My favorite basketball player is LeBron James, which is one of the world’s most powerful athlete. What makes the superstar specially is that he is an outstanding team player. He encourages good teamwork and does everything he can make sure of winning games. So far, he had won four Most Valuable Player awards or three championship rings. Last year, he was traded to Los Angeles and joined in the Lakers. Now he works even hard than before, hope to make his new team better. Can he lead my team back to glory in the future? Let’s wait and see!
