1 . Going back to campus every September can be stressful for most students. However, some universities in China manage to make this process easier.
Hebei University
Teachers from the university recently held a treasure hunt challenge to lighten up the atmosphere of getting back to campus for students. Teachers hid coupons (奖券) in surprising places around the campus, such as the top of bookshelves or the bottom of basketball hoops. Students who managed to collect the coupons were rewarded with gifts, including books and stuffed toys.
Zhejiang University
Has carrying your suitcases up and down in your dorm building been a headache? Zhejiang University has come up with some interesting methods to solve this problem. They use a scaling ladder to lift luggage from the first floor. Instead of sweating buckets, students can sit in their dorms and wait for the suitcases to be transported to them.
Chengdu University
Getting along with roommates can be tricky when everyone has different habits and personalities. Chengdu University offers a “roommate-selection system” based on big data. After students fill out the questionnaire, including questions about their hobbies and sleeping habits, their roommates will be automatically assigned (分配) by the system based on their preferences. This way, students have more control over who they share their room with.
With considerate teachers and a personalized atmosphere, students will be more ready for the upcoming semester.

5 . The Ragged School Museum
In a nutshellIn 1877 Dr Thomas Barnardo opened the Copperfield Road Free School, the largest of three ragged schools (charitable institutions that offered the poorest children a free education) in a row of three storehouses in East London. Now an underfunded, independent museum (opened in 1990), a small exhibition offers an insight into how tough life was in east London in the late 1800s, but the highlight is one of the original classrooms where visitors can attend a lesson led by an actor in Victorian costume. The museum is in the second phase of applying far a lottery grant (彩票福利基金), which will allow it to make vital repairs to the largest of the three storehouses, though the aim is to keep the authentic (真正的) atmosphere of the building.
Getting thereEasiest by car. The train station is a 30-minute walk away and trains are infrequent. A limited bus service from Liskeard drops you 20 minutes away. Parking is free right outside the gates.
Opening hours10am—6pm Monday—Saturday. Last entry: 5:30pm. Outside these times the museum runs a schools programme, with 16,000 school children coming through the doors each year.
Value for money?A little pricey, but the ticket is valid for a year. Entry is £18 adult, £ 13 child, family tickets £37. 60 (1+3 children) or £49. 60 (2+3).

8 . For children in parts of Kenya, books often arrive on the back of a camel. In other parts of the world, they arrive on horses, boats and motor vehicles. Books are hard to come by in some parts of the world. That makes mobile (移动) libraries an excellent way to share knowledge and the joy of reading.
The Camel Mobile Library
In Kenya’s Northeastern region, the Camel Mobile Library takes books to remote villages. The government created the program to give children a chance to learn to read. The animals, which carry 400 books at a time, travel four days a week.
ⅡBibliomotocarro
Retired school teacher Antonio La Cava wanted to help children learn to love reading. With that in mind, he turned his three-wheeled van (小货车) into a traveling library. His Bibliomotocarro holds 700 books. Each month he travels over 480 kilometers to visit excited children in southern Italy’s smallest villages.
CLI Book Boats
Community Learning International (CLI) sponsors a floating library in Laos. The boats, which visit out-of-the-way villages along the Mekong River, carry more than 1,000 books. When the boat arrives, the children rush to the floating library. They choose their books and read well into the night, returning their books in the morning. The boat then moves on to its next stop.
Horse-Powered Literacy
In remote parts of Ethiopia, a teacher and a horse, carrying books, pencils and exercise books, travel from village to village. Upon their arrival, the teacher gives books to the children and reads aloud to them. During those few short hours, the children are introduced to the power of reading.
