2 . These days, short videos have got millions of views online. Many people create short videos on popular video apps like Douyin and Kuaishou. You can even add music and special effects to your videos. The videos are 15 seconds to a few minutes long. They show people doing activities like cooking, exercising and singing.

Teenagers especially enjoy these videos. More than 50 percent of students in Grade 10 and Grade 11 said they enjoyed watching these short videos. About 47 percent have posted their own videos, according to a recent report.

The videos let teenagers see funny and exciting things they wouldn’t usually see. Many teenagers like to share the funny things they do with others as well. For example, a 12-year-old user named Xiao Qianyu has posted videos showing her learning jazz dance. This has won her many fans.

However, the videos can also cause trouble. Some students spend too much time watching them and not enough time studying. Some videos have vulgar content that is not good for teenagers.

To deal with this problem, Douyin added a new function (功能) in April, 2018. It locks the app if someone uses the app for over two hours a day. In the same month, the government asked companies to control these apps well and get rid of bad videos.

8 . When we’ve got children, it’s typical of us to give careful thought to how much TV the children are watching and exposed to. Are we being overprotective about the effect reality TV is having on our child? The answer is “No”. Or rather, there’s increasing evidence that these programs can have a profound influence on young people.

A recent research indicates that some reality TV shows can be as damaging for teenage girls as too many cartoons are for kids. The truth is that reality TV is anything but reality—but that’s not necessarily what our children believe. A study for the Girl Scout Research Institute in the US found that eight out of ten girls aged between 11 and 17 who regularly watch reality shows believe these programs describe real life. In fact, much of reality TV is a heavily manipulated (操纵) view of what’s really happening, and the worst of it strengthens the sort of female stereotypes women have spent decades trying to remove.

Many of the women on reality TV shows are acting out lives as teenage mothers or drama queens. Strong, hard-working, purposeful young women with ambitions beyond their looks are rare in these programs. There’s a widespread emphasis on the value of women concerning how they look and dress, which gives young viewers the message that being a woman is all about style and appearance, not what you do or stand for. Imran Siddiquee, Director of Social Media and Outreach, is concerned that these programs show the worst stereotypes of womanhood and “normalize” them in what appear to be everyday settings. “They offer such a limited view of what it is to be a woman, and all over the world young girls are addicted to it,” he says.

We should encourage our children to be critical thinkers. Whether reality TV is changing our children’s views, or whether they are attracted to programs that agree with their beliefs, it’s vital we that their viewing habits could strengthen these unbalanced ideas.

1. Who is this passage most probably intended for?
A.General public.B.Teenage girls.C.TV producers.D.Parents.
2. What is the problem with a reality TV show?
A.Its contents and views are rather unreal.
B.It has removed the usual female stereotypes.
C.Its contents and views are rather artificial.
D.It overemphasizes young women’s ambitions
3. According to Imran Siddquee, what should reality TV shows present?
A.Tips on how to become fashionable young girls.
B.Genuine reflections of females and their work.
C.Distinction between true life and TV dramas
D.Ways to gain more popularity among peers.
4. what is the text mainly about?
A.Reality TV shows’ impact on young girls and parent’s guidance.
B.Situations where teenagers are attracted to certain TV programs.
C.The way to help children to have the habit of critical thinking.
D.The stereotypes of women on TV and audience’s reactions.
